An intermediate role-play set 200 years after the end of Trickster's Queen; a fog in the west is barely visible from the furthest of the Kyprish Isles. Each day it gets closer. The descendents of legends do not think of their roots, or the parts they'll play in the upcoming events.
Explorer's from a new emperor have traveled across the seas to the Realm of Tortall, innocent enough. They bring with them a form of technology, and items more advanced then anything Tortall has seen. |
This is what I originally planned for the board. Obviously, its no longer 200 years after Trickster's Queen, as its actually 496 H.E on the board. So, I'm going to have to change that one.
I also need to sort out some more things, but I'd rather have some input on a cool plot we could do. Basically, anything will float my boat.
On a different side-note: Shall we have a Harvest Festival? Then, later, a Mid-Winter Ball?
Festivals are always a big hit and I am totally in favor of them. It would give us all a chance to get our characters more aquainted and what not. Perhaps you could build on and tweak that orginal idea you had for the board to fit the current timeline. Like perhaps a new island chain of some soret surfaced after a large eruption of a volcano on the floor of the Emerald Ocean, since such things do happen in real life. Or perhaps the dwellers of that island chain could almost be like the old legand of Atlantis.. if anyone is familiar.... just a couple of my weird ideas to help out if you want to use any of it.
I never thought of tying Atlantis in with it... Which I'm a semi-enthusiast as well ^^; Or if we did the volcanoe chain, we could model them after Ploynesians (whoo, Eastern Island Heads). Because the original ones, the new technologies would be as late as our 1800's, mayhap ironclads. Another time I had the idea of bringing in a Monotheistic (again, sp?) religion.
And another question would be, if we do decide to make a new country, should it have another board all to its onsies? Or would that be too much of a hassle. Hm. I'll think out more idea's as the day goes on...
Indeed, I think those would be interesting in general, some kind of conflict could be good. No point in rushing it though, much better to think it through and come up with good plans.
Well, by no means do I mean that the new country likes Tortallan's for food, but neither would they be blasting us with crazy heat rays. But there might be some disagreements arising. Whatever new country comes though, I was thinking it would be a fun quirk if they have no magic, and cannot inherit it either....
Another theory I thought of in class was the possibility of the new race resembling Elves (in a Tolkein way -- after all, most are after his model). Obviously with a different name....
To keep on rambling, I was also thinking of somehow connecting them with the Old Ones that are mentioned in the books. And getting more involved with generic fantasy beasts as well as the one in Tortall could proove for a bit of fun as well.
But yes, I agree with Bob... I'll try not to rush this in... But I can't promise anything once something clicks.
This is probably me playing too many video games but perhaps the different race in this new land don't even look fully human.. like maybe have animal characteristics specific to each type of climate?
Well, Tor and I were talking via AIM awhile back... And she got me thinking (Kudos to her :D Senioritis is eating me aliiiiive)
So, here's what I came up with:
The new race would be the Old Ones that were apparently destroyed. There main capital, thus arriving our Atlantis-esque theme, had bee claimed by the sea. It once sat between Northern Tortall, the Yamani Islands, and the Kyprish Isles (by the way, this was all before the Human Era). The race (which needs a name) were in appearance similar to Tolkein's Elves in looks -- Tall, gracefull, fair, wise, and Immortal, unless slain. They were druids, in a way, and paid the upmost respect to all animals and nature, and of which the Gods created. They often painted their bodies in resemblance to certain animals. They had their own magic, and, also, found themselves inferior to the mortal humans.
It took a Monarch of the Old Ones to displease the Gods; he had spent his time amongst the mortals, disguising himself as one of them. He wanted the throne for himself, and he gathered both mortal and Old One supporters to let him have the throne. At the time, he seemed the better one. He had better leadership skills; enthusiasm was his prime key. Easily, he cut off his siblings painfully and skillfully using the magic he had, for their magic had no side-effects, and could create weapons that disobeyed the laws of the Gods.
The Gods became slightly fearful; if the Old Ones could do that much, killing out Immortals in such fashions, and with their own realm being so close, they decided to look mortals out of their world, and with them came other Immortals, such as the dragons and animal gods. In addition, they began to take back the magic granted on the Old Ones.
The Monarch who cheated the throne began to get paranoid about the lack of magic, for other humans had began to notice their overlords were loosing their touch. So, the Monarch sent out the best of the best to find out what was going on; no one knew, both Old Ones and Humans, yet he thought them lying. His torturers would nearly destroy the captured beings until they wished for death.
One of the woman Old Ones, favored by the Goddess, and Head of the Order, was tortured most severely, for the Monarch began to believe this to be the working of the Gods, and that she was behind it. He destroyed all their temples, libraries, and banned offerings. She had promised that she wouldn't give up, she'd fight for what she knew was true. Even though it took long, she finally cracked, and cried out for the deities to bring her death which she was not gaining, and to rid herself and her race of Immortality, to be given the chance to die and be rid of this pain, and prevent it from happening to others.
The Goddess complied, and with the help of the other Gods, they brought away their Immortality as was wished, and a large majority felt themselves began to age and finally pass out of the seemingly doomed world into the Peaceful Realms. From there, everything was falling apart. The Gods then turned to the once proud, deathless race, and saw it fit to both save and destroy what they could. The great cities across the land cracked and fell apart of ruin, the lustfull forest blasted into a desert, and that great capital requested to be claimed by the sea.
However, the Goddess of the Seas, the Wave-Walker, or Goddess, had mercy on those innocent. She wished to save the memories of these people, for now their records and documents had been almost completely destroyed. She decided to encompass them in a pocket of air beneath the sea, as if they were in a times capsule.
The mortals had reign over the lands for the thousands of years, rebuilding society to what it is today.
As what felt like aeons, the race beneath the waves, the Old Ones, pine to return above the waves, wishing to either be slain, or return to the true air. Being beneath the waves, they felt confined, as if this was further punishment. In distress, the Goddess evolved them; to become immune to the effects of drowning, and be able to swim in the sea, and gather items. This was through the tattoo's the painted on their bodies; every child born from there after was given markings that resembled the animals both above and below. When they reached water, the tattoo's would glow, and allowed them to breathe the water. However, they were forbiddon contact with life above. They complied, just happy to be out of the bubble of their city.
Until now. Although the freedom to walk the sea was one they were grateful for, they wished to see what their cousins above were up to. Their curiosity bothered them greatly, causing mental turmoil. The Wave-Walker came down once again to her other people, learning gradually of what bothered them most. She brought this problem to her consort, then the counsel.
Just now... They lifted the ban for them to surface, and to inspect the upper world.
Sounds good to me.. hehe.
