Personally.... I like manga kept in the right to left format. Art changes when you flip it and if I were the manga artist I would be mad that a whole country is seeing my art in mirror image.

I like it when they leave honorifics such as kun/ san/ chan in because they put the conversation in context and give you a big clue to relationships between people.

I like it when they leave the japanese sound effects in because I can read hiragana and katakana and again, I like them to mess with the art as little as possible. If they do change the sound effects, they better do a good job!

the situation in the USA is really completely different than the situation here (in italy)...generally all the mangas are left in their original right-to-left format, in Ranma, for example the honorifics were left in the comic...but I don't agree with you about the sound effects!! of course, it would be nicer if they'd leave them, but the number of people in the western world that actually know how to read hiragana and katakana, is very small. That would make the comic more difficult to read for many people, causing a great loss of money, and maybe they wouldn't even be able to continue publishing the manga itself...

I know... I know -_- Although, even before I could read those, I would sort of guess at the sound effect from the font it was in and the context. I don't really mind when they change the sound effects but i have seen a few times (not many) where it looks like they did a pretty sloppy job pasting new sound effects over. They just have to do a good job. Or maybe I'm just a perfectionist :lol:

Oh! What they sometimes do is put a list of what the sound effects mean in the back. It tells you what panel the sound was in and what it means. It's kind of wierd to flip back and forth though.... I rarely look at those.

it took me a while to get used to the whole reading from right to left but now i like it and if the us or any other country changed i wouldnt appreciate it very much.

I to like the fact that they put the honorifics in the manga,it really gives the reader a taste of how things are in japan.

in malaysia the way of reading is not the problem but the translation is..

the translation is so bad that I rather read an online manga than reading the translated manga...

it is so damn funny...

anyway, really like the way of translation that was done now....appreciate it..
