Title: HELP with my grandson's assignment
Description: He is acting as Gore

oleblueraider - May 8, 2008 04:11 PM (GMT)
Ok, here it is:

My grandson has chosen to give a speech as a famous American--Al Gore.

Keep in mind that this is 4th grade level even if my grandson is not (For Ex: He is blessed to be reading at 9th grade level and spelling there as well!).

So he intends to open up his ONE page speech with---Hello My name is Al Gore and I used to be the next President of the United States! (Oh yeah, he is in Acting camp every summer!). I now realize why he used that line so very much, just a great line!

Ok, he tells a little about himself like where he was born, family, career etc.

I feel we should highlight Earth in the Balance!

Any other suggestions for a 4th grader to tell well-----Tennessee 4th graders not as blessed as he is?

SECOND PART--------------

He is to write 5 questions on note cards for the classmates to ask him press conference style! He is to have his answers on 5 other note cards.

I am thinking one on Will you run for President---we all know that answer by heart!

I am thinking one on "Did you claim to invent the internet" cause they are Net savy children and that allows us to refute that claim and tell them he got a Webby from the inventors for spreading the Net faster to everyone.

Then I thought I would tell or have them ask one of his great pieces of legislation that changed America and that allows us to mention Murfreesboro native son Dr. Sanders and how Al Gore and him started Children's car seats in Tennessee and helped that to spread to every state saving literally Thousands of Childrens lives each year since!

I need input on 2 more questions at 4th grade level? Got to be some kind of Climate question but how---what?

Just input and thoughts folks!

This is due to be presented next Tuesday in front of the entire 4th grade classes by him--(the day that he is assigned, it stretches over 4 days.)

So I will be reading this response over the weekend and making the final copy by Monday evening for the questions!

The Speech will have to be nailed down by Sunday?

The Speech needs some more funny stuff as well! They will remember humor  more than issues!

Thanks :good: :read:

Hey Blueraider!

I wish I had some better ideas right now.. I'm sure you are as good as anyone on earth in helping your grandson with this project.

Here's a link to my "Al Gore quotations" thread
http://www.algore.org/node/355

By the way, it appears the archive of the old AlGore.org forum is down; at least it's down tonight. They had a great link to Gore speeches :(

oleblueraider - May 10, 2008 04:17 PM (GMT)
Thanks Wayne for the link, that makes it easier to find good stuff!

I thought I would use the quote from the commercial about how we won WWII, the moon landing etc for the children to inspire them!

I know it is just a 4th grade thingy, but I bet ya the Boss would love it!

oleblueraider - May 15, 2008 02:33 AM (GMT)
Well, he nailed the assignment and actually was real good at the press conference part of it. Fast on his feet and can take subtle cues as to how to respond, overall an A performance.

3 others went that day, and did Oprah, Michael Jordan, and Tiger Woods.

Now what I find interesting about that skewered inaccurate sampling is that all 3 were 10 year old girls?

I sure see Oprah, but for white girsl to name and know Jordan and Tiger---Hmnnnn?

Oh sports folks like to distance themselves and say they are NOT role models etc.

Well---EXCUSE ME---but they are if young girls are going to give speeches about them in the 4th grade so live up to your millions!

That's great news on your grandson. I wish my daughter was doing a bit better in school. She's a bright girl, but she cannot spell at all. Got suspended from her 6th grade class twice last week. Don't ask :!:

Well, I just have to tell it somewhere!!!

My grandson just finished his baseball regular season on an undefeated 14-0 Optimist Little League team.

Now they have 4 games in the Tournament to win to also be tournament champs, sudden death all the way, but we don't care about that because------

He made the ALL STAR team at the end of the Tournament!!!! ( He made the Stinking Pro Bowl ---of sorts!! :good: )

We are just on cloud nine for all his practice and batting cage stuff paying off, but most of all his karma that we believe and tell him came back to him for his manners, empathy, and maturity!

Now if I just can get a "degree" job and get him the money to get him through MTSU, maybe he has the chance to be middle class???!!!

Sounds like you have a very special child there... no, a very fine young man and I have no doubt he's getting a AAA+ upbringing. Blue I would venture to safely say you are blessed.

oleblueraider - June 18, 2008 06:58 PM (GMT)
Al001, I can trust you to reply IF this link works???

Sometimes the shifting sands of the net change where or what you think will be linked too????

SO HERE GOES:

http://books.google.com/books?id=NQUYrGibl...elQFog#PPA75,M1

Scroll to the middle of the page 75 to begin and then If ya don't mind especially take note of my statement on Page 78 Last paragraph, third sentence!

This is only an excerpt teaser and less than half of what is written but may be of interest to some??? Thought it might be time?????

al001 - June 18, 2008 07:22 PM (GMT)
Blue I no longer venture to say you are blessed... you truly are a blessed person, one that is very hard to find. I am pleased to consider you a friend even though we've never met.

I loved the following quote by T.S. Elliot.

oleblueraider - June 19, 2008 04:33 AM (GMT)
Al001, I discovered that for myself the "secret of life" is relationships and then I add---relationships with children especially.

Now I ID the top two blessings of my life, but what a huge blessing the Net has been in a manner I would never have dared to imagine.

Yourself, Wayne, PapaB, EM, Chris Jackson whom I met in person, People who can't pick me out of line-up but for some blessed reason will go to the wall for me if I asked them too

I railed at Prof Gore for the "evils" of the net and he always shot back, but yes there is good there as well! HE WAS RIGHT! Freedom must trump abuses!

To know that people like, you, are loyal to you, will defend you and only because they like your MIND, your true personna! What greatter blessing can you have other than money; than that kind of validation :?:

I only wish we all could have gotten together at the cheap inaugural ball, because I am certain I would have been able to introduce you all to our main man with style!!!

By the way, he won tonight 15-0 and went 2 for 2 with 2 RBI's (12 hits total for us in the game). Just 3 more wins to the championship but again we have already won in this arena by his knowledge of "How to get to Carnegie Hall!!!"

I have everything money can not buy and very little that it will! Just a job away from victory!

Just curious...

al001 -
Roger that.

I've not 'met' blueraider (in person), but I believe that his grandson is blessed, also.

oleblueraider - June 19, 2008 11:06 AM (GMT)
That is ODD to me. Past my knowledge?

I clicked on the link just now and it worked fine for me, so it is past my knowledge as to why it works and for you where, etc???

Yep, even works in your cut/paste quote window for me?

Wayne in WA State - June 20, 2008 05:20 AM (GMT)
The link is works fine for me, but then, I'm using Firefox. I highly recommend it over Internet Explorer. :good:
