Title: Gotta give props to Barack...

Well, I really was impressed by Barack yesterday when he basically, very CLEARLY stated that he not only doesn't agree with Rev. Wright on very SPECIFIC things that he (Barack) outlined, INCLUDING Farrakhan, but that he also finds his views on those things "outrageous".

It is sad that it has come to this, where the candidate had to publically divorce himself from someone who clearly has been a spiritual inspiration to him for many years. But, for me personally as just one Democrat, I can take everything Wright has said except for his views on Farrakhan (and also the thing about America purposely giving African-Americans AIDS, which is another specific thing Barack said he finds outrageous). I was SO heartened to hear Barack specifically say that Wright's views on Farrakhan as someone that African-Americans look to as a role model are NOT something he shares and he basically projected the subtext that he further finds that offensive because that does NOT speak for African-Americans as a group.

While I found it so sad to see his obvious pain in saying the things he said, I also have been waiting to hear something like this outta Barack for a long time. I didn't feel his lofty speech on race did anything for me because he said then that Wright was like a wacky uncle who he loves and who sometimes says embarrassing things, yada yada yada, but there didn't seem to be any true sense of the "fierce urgency of now" in terms of DIVORCING HIMSELF FROM THE MAN'S MORE EXTREME VIEWS. But yesterday was different. Yesterday, Obama clearly cut all ties with Wright.

One could be very cynical and say that he had to do it politically, but in fairness to Obama, I have stood up for Hillary's defense of FL & MI's delegates even though people say it is all mercenary on her part, all because it is in her best interest. I've said, that could well be true, but I don't care WHY she is doing the right thing, the fact is, she's doing the right thing, so props to her. Well, so I have to be fair to Obama in the same way: no matter why he suddenly realized that some of Wright's views are outrageous, and stated as much, and further stated that he, Barack, does NOT share those views, the fact is that he did it. It was hard, it was painful to watch, but it really needed to be done and, frankly, I didn't think Obama was ever going to do it.

I feel he should have spoken out about the Farrakhan stuff ages ago in his own church community, as he surely knew about the award presented to Farrakhan, so it seems a bit disingenuous to suddenly be outraged now, which just happens to coincide with when Wright has p*ssed him (Obama) off royally by strutting around saying that Obama is just a posturing politician, BUT, again, fair is fair: I don't care WHY Obama said what he said, the man said the right things and he SPECIFICALLY mentioned my main concern which was the Farrakhan thing, and made it clear that, in his view, Wright's statements and opinions do NOT speak for the black church or for most African-Americans, and they certainly don't speak for HIM, Obama.

Good for Obama. I was really impressed. I even kind of felt bad for the guy, as again, you could plainly see the implosion of what had been a long and special relationship. But he did the right thing.

Props to Barack!

I'm feeling a tad better about him today. Inching a little closer to the voting booth in November, peeps. He still needs to do some massive wu'ing of me as a FL Dem to let us (FL Dems) know that he didn't really mean it when he consistently trashed us all primary season. That is going to be one tough row to hoe. But at least he got my attention now. I'm willing to listen to him. I hope he says something to me at some point. I want to be able to vote for him in November if it comes to him being the nominee. Yesterday went a good distance toward that.

Wow, no responses to me giving Obama props? I guess you all have fainted and have yet to be revived.
