Okay, I cannot even believe I'm about to defend Cheney, but...

That was at the correspondents' dinner, which is a roasty sort of affair in which everyone jokes about everyone and he did make several self-deprecating jokes, too. AND the joke about Al was really mild and actually kind of complimentary because it inherently acknowledges that Al is now looked at in extremely high esteem by most people. So, all in all, I'll give Cheney a pass on that one.

That said, he still needs waterboarding for being the "brain" (and I use that term loosely) behind the shrub administration and all their misadventures in the name of enriching themselves and their oil cronies, at the expense of American blood, American treasure, and Iraqi blood, not to mention the expense of our reputation in the world, our economy (oh--that would fall under "treasure", wouldn't it...already said that), our cultural morale, our societal soul, the constitution/rule of law, and a bunch of other really sancrosant stuff. In short, he is the devil incarnate...but that joke wasn't waterboard-worthy, imho.

The "Saint Al" remark sounds like Cheney might be jealous over how well regarded Gore has become over the last 7 years.
