Hundreds protest war at Capitol

ALBANY, N.Y. -- War protesters gathered outside the capitol. They were students, grandmothers, veterans and civilians. Their main message is mostly the same -- it's time for the War in Iraq to end.

"My heart is broken for what is happening to our country, to our constitution, to our youth and to us," said Delmar resident Dorothy Richards.

"This is the fifth year of a war that is tearing our nation apart, making it less secure, costing us an unbelievable amounts of money," said Elliot Adams.

Hundreds came to West Capitol Park to protest the war and they said they will keep coming until the last troops come home.

"We need peace right now. I have many relatives and family members working overseas and I want them to come home, said Niskayuna resident Megan Kaminsk.

"We need to bring our soldiers home and give Iraq back to the Iraqis," said Adams.

Adams is the president of Veterans for Peace. He told the crowd that vigils and protests like this are the reason we are not at war in other parts of the world, like Iran and Syria.

"It is the only thing for people to believe in and make a difference and stand up," said Richards.

"If we stop doing events like this we will never make a difference," said Kaminski.

While it was mostly an anti-war protest, some, also used it as a chance to show support for the Palestinians and a chance to recognize the Iraqi civilians killed in the last five years.
