Title: My Experiences With Al

GSC Admin - June 23, 2004 10:10 PM (GMT)
In the past, I have had the great honor of becoming aqainted with Former Vice President Al Gore. In all my times that I have met him he has been such a personable and caring person. I truly hope that everyone will get to experience meeting this great individual someday! I am proud to call Mr. Gore my friend!

I met Al and Tipper on Nov. 29th, 2002. It was in Nashville at the book signing. I was so nervous about meeting him. My dad had met him many times before as Senator and Congressmen. We call him a family friend for what he has done for our family in the past.

Back in 1984, my dad was injured on the job and TVA was not helping him get on disability. He contacted Al, and within weeks, he contacted dad saying that not to worry, he got him on. This was only one of the times Al has helped my family. When VP, my grandfather called DC for him and got a call from the White House I believe. Talk about a love for his homestate folk!

We had his home phone number I believe and all of his contacts. He was a very open person and he wanted to help people.

Back to Nov 20002. My dad and I was one of the first ones in line to meet him. As I braced myself, I wanted someway to remember this day. They had told us no pictures. But I knew the Gore's wouldn't care. Dad stepped over and snapped a few pics of Al & me and Tipper & me.

I told Al how much I admired him, and wanted to be just like him when I get older. He told well I really appreciate that. Then he told me he like the pin I was wearing and asked if it was homemade, which I said yes. I also gave him a letter I wrote him and he said thank you graciously. Then came Mrs. Tipper. She had heard what I had told Al and she said, "Oh what a sweet young man!" When I was talking to her, she told me something I will never forget, she told me to run for office someday, which I said I would.

The Gore's are the ideal family for America. Both love their families and their fellow Tennesseans. For anyone to say Al never had Tennessee in his best interests I say they are ignorant.

I have sent Al letters in the past. The last one he receive was discussing my future in school and wanting to be a political along with talking about the problems my family is having. I was not expecting the letter, but I am pleasantly surprised! ;)

Not only did he send me a personal letter, but an autographed photo! :)

His kind words and encouragment has given me even more inspiration to excel in politics!

Hello everyone,

This all starts from about 3:00 at MTSU. We get our reserved seats and set down. Then around 3:30 Tangy arrives and I talk with her for a while. After that I talk to Rodney Crumpton who I have known via the web for a while. A little bit later the whole group arrives: Bill, Erin, BDR, and more. It was so great to finally meet everyone that I have worked with! Then Al spoke for an hour and a half. Afterwards, I went down to speak and meet with the big guy. First I told him who I was and that I was from GSC and he said "OH" like he was pleasantly surprised. Then I gave him a personal letter, and a gold like VP lapel pin I had bought off the internet, for a gesture of gratitude. I also asked, can I have a pic with you? So I put my arm around the president and dad took the pictures!

Also, I asked Al, how do you think we can get the media to switch more from focusing on someone's clothes and the way they act to their message. He told me it all went back to what he was saying earlier. He said that is what people really want to hear. I said that is what I did and he laughed and said yea. Then I said thank you and he said "YOU BET"!

Hey guys. I have been away for a while and for good reason that I wont discuss right now. But anyways, dad and I went up to MTSU again today to see Al speak. The speech was on race. He explained how racism occurs and what is the root of racism. Then he went on to explain how we can try to end racism. He also fielded questions from audience members. I asked 2. I first asked him how can one explain how affirmative action is different from quotas. The other was how the Bush Admin was using special treatment towards Jessica Lynch and not towards POW Sasawana Johnson. Afterwards, I got to go speak with him personally. The great thing about it, I asked him if he remembered me and he told me he did and called me by my name. Then we posed for pics and we chatted a while. Thanks Mr. President, you are a true friend!

Hey guys, just receive a letter from Gore's office on behalf of Al. I gave the letter to him at MTSU in Nov. I want to express my thanks to Al in having the letter sent. Not to many people like Gore would keep in contact with someone like me as the way he has done.

Dear Mr. Jackson:

On behalf of Former Vice President Al Gore, I want to thank you for your gracious letter and continued support. The Former Vice President appreciates the trust and confidence you have expressed in him.

Thank you also for inviting the Former Vice President to speak at your high school commencement in 2005. At the moment, he committed to a number of different ventures, which keep him traveling extensively. In addition to teaching at two universities here in Tennessee, he is also involved in a number of other endeavors, which will prevent him form attending your graduation ceremonies.

Again, thank you for you writing the Former Vice President. He joins me in wishing you continued success.

I got to see Al again and got to talk with him. This time I thought I would do something cool, so I had a plaque made for Al that read the following:

Presented To Al Gore

The moral leader of the United States. For his long standing service to America and his dedication to the "People Not The Powerful."

Chris D. Jackson
Administrator Al Gore Support Center

What was cool is that this time went and talked with him, I got it on tape. That will be a true classic moment in the future!

This was truly another great moment with my mentor and president. I could tell he greatly appreciated this token of appreciation. Hopefully his next lecture is not far off, so I can see him again.

Again, thanks Al for being such a great guy and a leader by example!

Hey! I had a great time this morning. The lecture he gave was only to about 20 people and it was broadcast to France (that is why it had such an early start). He talked about Sustainable Growth As An Alternative To Terrorism. He went in depth on the environment and our relationship with other countries and what can be done to help improve our standing with other nations and prevent further attacks. It was really awesome.

After the lecture was over I went up and talked to him. I introduced my self and before I could even get done he said he remembered me. I then asked him to sign a photo of him and I where I presented him with a plaque back in April and he wrote the following: "To Chris, Best Wishes & Good Luck!" Al Gore. I also told him again my intentions to be in public service some day and how much I looked up to him. He was really flattered. I also told him that all of us were still out there supporting him on the Al Gore Support Center and he relpied, "That means the world to me!" That really made me happy to realize how much he appreciates our work for him. It was another really great time with him. He always is so interested in my future and gracious for everything. I hurt everyday that he is not the President.

Thanks Al!

What awesome experiences and advice. I cannot believe the propaganda that is spread through that media about Al and his home state of Tennessee. I agree with Bill Clinton that the republicans on the far right (many) are cruel people, and it's all about power to them. They do not treat those who do not agree as human beings. I think that is even more damaging than the rumors themselves.

Hold tight to your memories and the wonderful advice. They will guide you. There is a reason why your path crossed with Al's, and I suspect you know what that is.

Peace and blessings to you,

Mavis
Al Gore may have lost a court case, but he won the election!
