Tell the people the exact name they have to write in so that it all counts for the same person or what the law is there

Al, Albert Al Jr, etc...

make sure whatever that it is uniformly applied so it counts.

Gore's office specifically asked that the New Hampshire write-in campaign be taken down. The person heading it up (Farrell Seiler) isn't a member of AlGore.org, and even though we told him that Gore's office wanted this activity stopped, he has continued on. Our people aren't supporting his efforts.

But, should we not do something? What does he know that we do not know? I feel that something is going to happen so that he gets in the '08 race.

Dolphins4Gore - December 21, 2007 07:27 AM (GMT)
I think every person should do what they feel in their heart is the right thing to do and if the people of any state including New Hampshire want Al Gore to be their nominee, they should write him in! I plan to write him in my democratic leaning state of Virginia. :P I think most people know him as Al Gore and if possible that's how he should be written in. We've all wanted this for him for so long now and I just can't see letting this dream of ours slip away by not taking any further significant action to finally achieve it. The time and effort so many of us have spent to make this dream a reality is impossible now to measure. How can we let this slip away from us based solely on that one request to cease efforts to have his name put on the ballot? It seems to me that was an attempt to eliminate the possibility of him having to accept or deny having his name thrown directly into the mix, especially in those crucial, early states. He never requested that the draft effort cease altogether. Maybe he wants to see how creative his supporters can be in getting him in without him having to endure the torture of a long dragged out campaign. He should really be handed the democratic nomination, because after being truly elected by the american people 7 years ago and denied his right to serve, the most he should have to tolerate is the kicking of some republican behind in the general election. He shouldn't be in until sometime between March and July. I say let's not throw in the towel and give up now. We've wanted this too much for too long, and so has Al!

ReElectAlGore2008 - December 21, 2007 11:17 AM (GMT)
dolphins-he doesn't have to get in the race til early summer 2008 if he does it on anb independent party that has access to getting on all the ballots.
Some states start around March running through the summer

by March, way things are going the democrats shall know their nominee will be Hillary (the brokered convention is longer odds than an independent run, being that the person picked at a brokered would not be guaranteed to be al anyhow, being that the same machines that have kept him out of the race are controlling
it now and then

Guess you didn't read this:

QUOTE
Al Gore sent the following message to DCCC supporters:

Dear Friend,

TIME IS RUNNING OUT

The truth is it took years to drive our country so far off track and it will take a lot of hard work and determination to get it back on track.

And while it's tempting to lay all of the blame at the feet of George W. Bush, the fact is that he couldn't have done it without the support of the Republican Congress that did so much damage while they were in the majority.

To make lasting change, we need both a Democrat in the White House as well as a strong Democratic Majority in Congress.

2008 is going to be a campaign season like no other. Democrats' end-of-year fundraising reports will be carefully scrutinized to frame the 2008 landscape. That includes reporters and pundits trying to gauge Democratic strength and momentum as 2008 begins. If you contribute to the Democratic Year-End Challenge, House Democrats will match and double your gift towards our drive for a New Direction.

Contribute $25, $50, or more today and House Democrats will match and DOUBLE your gift.

We must pull together as committed Democrats to overcome President Bush and his Republican cronies in Congress when they try to block key parts of the Democratic agenda for change.

That's where the DCCC comes in. As the official campaign arm of House Democrats, the DCCC is the only political committee dedicated to strengthening our Democratic Majority. With your help, the DCCC will provide vital assistance to Freshman Democrats being targeted by Karl Rove and his Republican hatchet men. They also give essential early support to Democratic challengers taking on Republican incumbents. And by mobilizing voters in key districts, the DCCC will help provide the margin of victory for our 2008 presidential nominee. We are less than one year out -- we must show we have the resources and strength now.

Contribute $25, $50, or more today and House Democrats will match and DOUBLE your gift.

This perverse political culture -- dangerously hostile to reason and knowledge -- is what enabled George W. Bush to use fear and lies to mislead our nation into the Iraq war, ignore the threat of global warming, block promising stem cell research and ignore the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

For the sake of our nation and the world, you and I can't let the Republicans succeed.

Contribute $25, $50, or more today and House Democrats will match and DOUBLE your gift.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
Al Gore

Al has better things to do than know what the DNC is putting out with stamped signatures on it

So Gore is allowing the DNC to put his name on letters without approving their content. Sounds like Gore is a committed Democrat who trusts the party. Either way he doesn't sound like someone likely to run as a 3rd party candidate.

ReElect, do you REALLY think Al would let the DNC put out letters without knowing what they contain?? I give him more credit that than. It's pretty obvious at this point that Al isn't going to run Independant.

ReElectAlGore2008 - December 21, 2007 09:00 PM (GMT)
That sure sounds word for word the same as the one they mailed out months and months ago (back when people thought he was running).

He forgot to also blame those democrats that have no spine like Bayh and Lieberman who continously back Bush.

We need the Gore speeches like he gave Martin Luther King day a few years ago at NYU...that is the voice needed in the next democratic nominee, I don't hear it, do you?

Yes it does sound the same. Which just proves how much a waste of time all this talk of a 3rd party run has been these past few months. Some people just can't accept reality.

And Lieberman is not a Democrat anymore. He's an Independent.

lieberman wants to be at the democratic convention as a super delegate

Important thing is that people who write Gore in, spell his entire name in unison, otherwise the votes will not be counted as the same person due to technicality

The only type of letter that is meaningful is when the person who's name on it actually hand-signs each one (not autopen or printed).

rickj345 - December 21, 2007 11:05 PM (GMT)
What is the proper name to write in ?

Texan for Gore - December 21, 2007 11:17 PM (GMT)
Actually, this letter did not sound like the same one as before and I did receive the other one before. I'll have to go back and try to find it. I don't recall him mentioning we need a Democrat in the White House - I may be wrong but this letter was different to me.

As far as the Democratic candidates, I'm not really too thrilled with any of them, except in the 2nd tier - I think Christopher Dodd would make a good nominee, but it doesn't look like he's got a good shot, unless he were to suddenly rise in the ratings like Huckabee has been doing on the Republican side. I think it's kinda funny that Huckabee is rising above Guiliani and the others because I can't stand Guiliani.

I just wish we had a great Democratic candidate running. I've never been crazy about Hillary. She is not very likeable to me and I don't trust her. I think Obama's got great potential, but with the state our Country is in, it's not the right time for him - at least not for President. We need someone in there who has great leadership, experience, someone who would have great public relations with other countries and good foreign policy experience. Damn it, we need Gore. Gosh, I wish a miracle would happen and Gore would get in there. Otherwise, I am really at odds over this next election.

Yes, Gore has those fieery speeches. That's one thing I really admire about him. He speaks with such conviction and passion about the things he believes in. Well, Christmas is only a few days away and no miracles yet...

Wayne in WA State - December 22, 2007 12:26 AM (GMT)
The so-called "inevitability" of Hillary as the nominee seems to be slipping away rather quickly. Iowa and New Hampshire usually bring some surprises. Remember, 3 weeks before Iowa 4 years ago Howard Dean had it all locked up and John Kerry had no chance of winning the nomination. :spikey: If Gore won't run then for my two cents I wish John Kerry was...

Compared with Al Gore none of the candidates are worth a hill of beans. But then, compared to the Republican side, the Democratic candidates start to look fairly decent. :o

I would guess there is a good chance that among the 'second tier', Joe Biden, Chris Dodd, and Bill Richardson, one or maybe two of them will do better than expected, finally get real media attention, and possibly be in serious contention for the Democratic Nomination.

But Santa, there's still a couple days left, and hope is a renewable resource. :santa:

Texan for Gore - December 22, 2007 06:49 AM (GMT)
"But Santa, there's still a couple of days left, and hope is a renewable resource." :santa:

I like that, Wayne.

In addition to the words of Bon Jovi's "Livin' on a Prayer," I've been livin' on hope for a long while now, in regards to Al running.

As for the 2nd tier Democratic candidates, anything can still happen. Good point about Kerry coming out on top. Yeah, too bad he's not running. But maybe Biden, Dodd or Richardson can turn things around. I never thought Hillary could win, anyway, and her declining polls are starting to show it. I was really concerned that Hillary would win the nom, then go on to lose to a Republican. Now it looks like she could lose the nom to Obama, or another Dem. for that matter.

Anyway, this election is a long way from being over, and I don't doubt that it could be filled with twists and turns. I just hope they're the good kind!!

Come on, Santa! Mama needs a new pair...er, a new President in the White House, preferably in the form of Al Gore - or another good Democrat!

Adding on here...I just remembered something funny to share. I was in the mall earlier tonight and came across this calender. It was one of those small desktop calenders (a day a page) and it was an eighteen month countdown until George W. Bush leaves office and contained jokes about him and his "bushism" bloopers. I told my husband that'd be a good gift for me but then said, no, don't waste your money.... Oh, and it said on the box, "looking ahead at the later days wouldn't get him out of office any sooner" (Damn!) Gotta find something to laugh about in the middle of all this chaos! :D

It will only be good news if JEB or any other Bush relative does not take the office somewhere down the road at a later time

If that happens we are in more trouble then we are now. Jeb would be worse.
(he is same message but competent people think, not knowing better)

Yeah, TNBlue, countdown thread sounds like a good idea to me!! How many more days until we are Bushless?

And ReElect, I'm not going to go borrow trouble. Jeb is not running at this time. So until he does, I'm going to remain optimistic. And even if he were to run, W's rating is so low that I don't think Jeb would stand a snowball's chance in hell of winning.

So....let's think good thoughts!!

earthmother - December 22, 2007 08:18 PM (GMT)
I have no good thoughts about the race if Gore's not in it. :(

Texan for Gore - December 22, 2007 09:52 PM (GMT)
I'm sorry, EM. :( I understand how you feel and I feel sad that Gore is not in the race. We've all hoped for so long that the time was approaching when he would jump in and this roller coaster ride would be over. It's been a killer.

I'm still hoping against hope for that brokered convention, even though it is a long shot. It's just that these high's and low's take a toll after a while. I'm at a point where I've clawed out of that hole and I don't want to fall back in. I vacillate from being disappointed that he decided not to run to accepting and respecting his decision. I'm sure he is trying to do what is best but it's a hard pill to swallow.

Where things go from here, I don't know. But it's been helpful having this board just to vent and talk to everybody about it. I can't do that with everybody. At Thanksgiving, I kinda got into it with my brother-in-law because I was talking about having met Gore back in October and he kept rolling his eyes and covering his ears. He and my sister are big Bush fans, so you can imagine the fur flying. We got into a Bush/Iraq war argument. I finally had to leave the room. I'm just glad the rest of my family are Democrats. ;)

one thing's for sure, Gore is fully aware we want him as POTUS.

Dolphins4Gore - December 23, 2007 05:48 AM (GMT)
If there is a successful write in campaign in just this one early state of New Hampshire, then of course the media hype of it all will ratchet up the write in campaign in other states that follow and Al will be a real contender for the nomination at the convention. Showing well in New Hampshire alone will immediately make a Gore candidacy possible. And it will be because the people demanded it! What a tribute to democracy and our truly elected president Al Gore, as opposed to the criminal acts which denied him the right to serve this country in that capacity 7 years ago! I'm still pissed about it!

earthmother - December 23, 2007 05:56 AM (GMT)
Gore will have to receive at least 15% of the votes for the write-ins to count toward anything. I don't mean to be a naysayer, but it's very unlikely that will happen. More likely is that he'll get 1-2%, there will be some adverse publicity about it, and that'll be that. If we had the full momentum of the national draft movement behind this and other efforts across the country, we'd have had a better chance at being successful, but we don't. Besides, I believe Gore made his intentions pretty clear in the most recent Time interview (Person of the Year issue). It's about as close to a Sherman statement as we're going to get. If you haven't read it, I've pasted it in below (as much as it pains me):

QUOTE
Time:  The person in the world who has the most power to shape the response to climate change is the President of the US. Given the fact that you've emerged as a global spokesperson on this issue, don't you have a responsibility to put yourself forward?

Gore:  I appreciate the question, and I agree with you that there is no position on Earth with anything like the potential influence over events as the office of President of the U.S. But I have seen during eight years as the Vice President, the other prerequisites that are necessary for the kind of galvanizing response that is needed. When I left Kyoto, I was feeling very positive about the breakthrough we had there. When I tried to convince the Senate to ratify the treaty, I could only convince 1 senator out of 100 to vote for it. When I was talking to the others, I saw behind their eyes, the calculations of what this controversy might mean to their reelection campaign. I don't want to diminish them. I saw the lack of support behind them for the boldness I was urging them to demonstrate, and I do believe that this is the rare crisis that requires a fundamental shift of public opinion at the grass roots level, to embolden members of the legislative branch in this country, and in other countries, to take the kind of action that is needed. If I felt the best use of my talents was to pursue these solutions by becoming a candidate for President, I would do that. I have not completely ruled out the possibility at some point in the future I might reenter the political system. But I don't expect to do that, and I don't think that's likely to happen. What feels right to me is to wage this different kind of campaign. To try to convince a majority of our fellow citizens and people in the rest of the world that we must make the solution of the climate crisis our top priority.

You can read the entire interview here: http://www.time.com/time/specials/2007/per...1695747,00.html

Dolphins4Gore - December 23, 2007 06:13 AM (GMT)
Honestly it just sounds like a slight rewording of what he has already said. He says again that he's waiting for enough people wake up and galvanize together to tackle the issues facing our environment. What better way to show him that we are awake now and ready to take real action than with a grassroots effort to make him our leader as president, since he clearly is a leader when it comes to caring for this planet we inhabit. I can't give up yet. There is still time and hope. :good: Can I get an amen?

wHO'S WITH ME??? :coolwink:

Texan for Gore - December 23, 2007 07:29 AM (GMT)
I admire your efforts, Dolphins. I don't know how Gore will feel about the New Hampshire campaign, but I don't see how it could hurt anything. I still wonder about the comment that "it could create other problems..." I guess we may never know the answer to that one or it may have meant nothing.

At least at the end of the election, you can say you did everything possible to get Gore in the race. And who knows, maybe something could come of it.

The latest Time magazine article does shed some light for me as to why he hasn't gotten into the race. It seems that he really isn't convinced that he can change the minds of those in Congress and the Senate. He's been in that position before so he knows. I just hope with everything that he's done, that people really will start demanding solutions to the climate crisis. I think if Gore sees a real tipping point in the change of attitudes, that he'd be inclined to get in the race.

Good luck with the campaign. :)

Activists Launch Write-In Campaign For Gore

By Dan Gorenstein / New Hampshire Public Radio

Grassroots activists have launched a campaign to write-in Al Gore on the New Hampshire ballot.

New Hampshire Public Radio's Dan Gorenstein reports.

The Draft Gore group wants Al Gore to become the next president for one reason.

Organizer Farrell Seiler says the country needs a leader who will make global warming more than just another issue.

"They'll talk about Iraq, they'll talk about health care, they'll talk about jobs - nothing wrong with those issues, but we want candidates to look at global warming as the central organizing theme of their campaign."

Seiler says there's a core group of supporters who plan to spend the next three weeks compiling voter lists, phone banking and sign waving.

He doesn't expect to win, but Seiler says he's hoping for a respectable third or fourth place finish.

Last fall Gore told reporters he doesn't have plans to be a candidate again.

ReElectAlGore2008 - December 23, 2007 12:21 PM (GMT)
Make sure to tell them to spell his name one way uniformly, otherwise the
votes will be split between Al Albert Al Jr. Albert Jr. President Gore, etc.

Imagine if he got enough votes to win but they used another legal technicality to stop it

I don't see what difference it would make, it's all the same person, but since AL GORE was how it was on the ballots when he won the 2000 election, that is the way it should be done.

you and I may know it is, and not think there is a difference, should he win, you can be sure Hillary's people (and others) would indeed make a stink.(but not admit of course they are making a stink).

Believe there is an official rule on the books about uniformity in who one votes for.
(whether or not in NH I have no idea).

I respect Al Gore's decision NOT to put himself into the 'political wringer', and I am PROUD of what the LPOTUS has already done...

Just ONE thing...

Albert Arnold Gore...we NEED to know who YOU are supporting in 2008! You told us it was Dr. Howard Dean in 2004...NOW we NEED to know who YOU THINK IS BEST IN 2008!

It is time to stop fooling around and get Gore in the White House. The world is in such a bad state, and we need a real leader to take control. There is not one person running that has the experience and respect that Gore has. We need to do whatever it takes to get him in the '08 race. If it is a draft or write-in, we need to get busy now.

Dolphins4Gore - December 28, 2007 01:15 AM (GMT)
I agree with Patsy, let's kick this campaign into high gear! We must devise a plan and start taking significant action. There's got to be something we can do! Suggestions on how to proceed with a vengeance ANYONE??? :coolwink:

TNblue - December 28, 2007 04:59 AM (GMT)
I don't remember which thread contained the post from Earthmother stating that someone close to Gore said to stop efforts to get him on the ballots, but I've been wondering if it was during a phone call RECEIVED or a phone call MADE by the person who said it. Someone may have felt pressured at the time to say that, especially if the call didn't originate with them. Do you see where I'm going with this? (Not totally sure I do either).

Maybe it's time to ask again. With more force. We had the momentum snowballing not too long ago. Maybe it's best to let it be, but....

Denial is such a difficult river to navigate. <_<

Dolphins4Gore - December 28, 2007 07:08 AM (GMT)
Yes, we had the momentum going and as time passes, Al Gore appears increasingly like our best and possibly only option to lead the people of earth out of this horrible mess we're now all in. How can such a genius be kept out of this position of highest authority? That would be a shameful waste! But Al Gore has to want it for himself as much as we want it for him and that request from his office has essentially shut down the draft effort entirely. This is extremely disheartening to me because it would have been incredible to witness that grassroots support grow as all signs showed it would have. As was seen with the NYTimes ad and the Randi Rhodes show on Air America, when people heard about the movement, many decided to join us in our efforts to drag this man into the race. I understand where Al Gore is coming from in some respect but he must know that he can only do so much to enact change as a private citizen. As he has said, the debate about Global warming is over. He needs to rest assured that he has successfully convinced most if not all who will ever be convinced, that global warming is real, in part caused by human behavior and that action is required to prevent further damage to the earth and its inhabitants. His best next move is to become president and to take the reigns of power and work the congress like George W. Bush has, to fix the mess that thief has created. Could there be no sweeter justice for Al Gore than to personally escort Bush's ass right out of the White House? What could be a more perfect outcome to the criminal acts Bush committed against this nation 7years ago than to inaugurate Al Gore as his successor? There is no more perfect ending to this tragic story. AL GORE MUST BECOME THE NEXT PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES AND WE NEED TO HELP MAKE THAT HAPPEN! He hasn't endorsed anyone and has said he may not. He has not made a sherman statement. To the contrary, he has actually said he sees no need to. He may again enter the political scene and if so it will be to run as president. He has asked supporters to be energetic and ready if and when he decides to make a run again. Does anyone think when he said this that he was expecting us to hold all this energy for another 4-8 years or maybe longer??? I can't see that. He sees how exhausted we all are after the past 7+ years. I for one was so completely outraged by what happened in Florida in 2000, that it became essentially my life's mission to undo that wrong against us. I was 29 then. I just turned 36. This was a significant period of my life that I have dedicated to this cause. I know Al Gore didn't ask me to feel this way and to spend so much of my time and energy working and hoping for him to one day become president. I couldn't help myself but now I'm feeling slightly regretful. Instead of doing what women my age normally do like socialize, fall in love, get married and have children, I have been absorbed completely in my mission for Gore. I hate to think now that I might have sacrificed so many important aspects of my life for something that may now just not come to pass. I know it's my own fault for not "moving on" like the republicans told us to do. Why didn't I listen? I guess because I hate an injustice, always have, especially when it's against me or someone I care about. In the case of the 2000 election both occurred. Nothing infuriates me more, except of course animal abuse. But Al Gore enlightened me and gave me hope. His words were inspiring and because I heard them, I cannot forget. I just can't seem to completely "move on" yet. I'm back on the dating scene though and hoping it's not too late for me to fall in love with someone other than Al Gore and build a "normal" life just in case all hope is lost. I really wish, I hope and pray we can figure out a way to make this man president.
