Title: Putin is Time's Person of the Year
Description: Gore is first runner-up

Time keeps up the tradition of NOT picking a Democrat for Person of the Year. Vladimir Putin over Al Gore, they have to be kidding! Last year the choice should have been Nancy Pelosi (as Newt Gingich was in 1994 when the GOP took over Congress) but instead they did that stupid 'You' thing. The last time a Democrat was picked at the sole Person of the Year was 1992 when Bill Clinton won the election. Other than that no Dem has been picked in over 20 years. We should all boycott Time and write letters to their editors to complain about their bias.

I am happy they did not pick Nancy Pelosi last year...may Cindy Sheehan defeat her
She is the #1 disappointment in the House (tied with Reid overall in Congress)

AL GORE gets screwed again, nothing new, thanks biased repukes. I wouldn't wipe my butt with TIME magazine. Vladimir Putin???? This loser is a nothing compared to AL GORE. Damn, I'm pissed, nothing like waking up to bad news to ruin a day. Leave it to a republican run rag magazine like TIME. :bad:

Remember 2000, they named Bush person of the year, I guess to honor him for stealing the election from AL GORE. Worthless bastards. :bad:

Putin Named Time "Person of the Year"

NEW YORK (AP) — Time magazine on Wednesday named Russian President Vladimir Putin its 2007 "Person of the Year."

The nod went to the Russian leader because of Putin's "extraordinary feat of leadership in taking a country that was in chaos and bringing it stability," said Richard Stengel, Time's managing editor.

Putin, 55, is enormously popular in Russia, presiding over a resurgent economy flush with revenue from oil and natural gas. But critics say he has moved the country away from Russia's democratic reforms of the 1990s by tightening control of the media, courts and parliament.

"He's the new czar of Russia and he's dangerous in the sense that he doesn't care about civil liberties, he doesn't care about free speech," Stengel said.

Putin recently endorsed protoge Dmitry Medvedev's presidential bid, and later said he would accept Medvedev's offer to serve as prime minister if Medvedev is elected in the March 2 election.

Many believe Putin would remain Russia's real leader, regardless of his title, though Putin has said he would not undermine his successor. The Russian constitution limits presidents to two consecutive terms.

Others who were in the running for Person of the Year included Nobel Prize-winner Al Gore and author J.K. Rowling.

This year's choice was a return to the magazine's tradition of picking an individual rather than last year's choice of anyone creating or using content on the World Wide Web.

Previous individual winners have included Bono, President George W. Bush and Amazon.com CEO and founder Jeff Bezos.

Who needs Time's P. of the Y. award anyway - clearly they have their priorities screwed up!! Being "dangerous" is obviously high on their list of important criteria, as W and Newt got it too. :bad: :wtf:

And while Bono and Clinton did some great things, they didn't outdo Gore enough to make them deserving if Gore isn't this year. That makes no sense. :?:

This is apparently the ONLY one he won't get this year. He certainly won all the important ones! Hello and Duh! What idiots!

Why didn't they just give it to Bush again????

Time is owned by Time Warner, a major media conglomerate.

This is what they had in 2004:

Expect anything else from an MSM?

Great! There goes 5 bucks I bet on this. Yes of course, Putin was more influential than Al Gore. Sure he was. :spikey:

Uncle Joe - December 20, 2007 07:22 PM (GMT)
This didn't surprise me, they've spent too much of their journalistic capital libeling and trashing Al Gore over the years and I never believed they could eat that much crow.

Their end of the 20th century special editon regarding the great inventions of the past 100 years was a case in point. When they wrote about the Internet, they priinted some trash in there to the effect of contrary to what Al Gore beliieves, he didn't invent the Internet. I believe Al Gore had two strikes against him from the beginning, he was a Democrat and he was the primary political leader; who empowered the people to seek their own information when he championed the Internet while he was in Congress and as Vice-President. I believe the corporate media in general have resented him ever since.

As for me, Time Magazine is a worthless piece of shit rag, that I will never make the mistake of buying again. I believe they are a prime example of what's so dysfunctional and sick about our nation today.

ALGOREismylife - December 21, 2007 01:38 AM (GMT)
Even Mitt Romney said it was 'disgusting,' they chose Putin.

And Uncle Joe, I couldn't agree more, TIME Magazine is a "shit rag." I wouldn't waste a dime of my hard earned money on that trash. In a way, they screwed themselves. Do you realize how many copies of TIME they could have sold if they chose AL GORE as person of the year??? I was planning on buying between five and ten copies if I could find that many in one place and I'd like to bet several other people here on this site would have done the same as well as many others everywhere they sell that pile of doggie paper magazine.
