Title: Gore and Bush, together again

This makes me kind of sick, but it is news....................

Gore and Bush, together again

By BEN FELLER, Associated Press Writer

Talk about an inconvenient truth.

Al Gore finally won his place in the Oval Office on Monday — right next to George W. Bush.

Forever linked by the closest and craziest presidential race in history, the two men were reunited by, of all things, White House tradition. Gore was among the 2007 Nobel Prize winners who were invited in for a photo and some chatter with the president; Gore got the recognition for his work on global warming.

The two men stood next to other, sharing uncomfortable grins for photographers and reporters, who were quickly ushered in and out.

"Familiar faces," the former vice president said of the media. Bush, still smiling, added nothing.

The two also had a 40-minute meeting in the Oval Office, part of Bush's effort to show some outreach to his longtime rival.

Bush aides said it was private and would not comment on it.

Gore, trailed by the press as he left the White House very publicly on foot, allowed that he and Bush spent the whole time talking about global warming.

"He was very gracious in setting up the meeting and it was a very good and substantive conversation," Gore said. "And that's all I want to say about it."

Gore's presence added unlikely buzz to a photo op that normally would have been buried by Bush's Mideast peace forays. It is not like these two cross paths much. They have not met privately since then-President-elect Bush paid a visit — short, and not that sweet — to Gore's residence in December 2000.

That was back when the acrimony was fresh, in a country still in disbelief over an election that seemed never-ending. Ultimately, the U.S. Supreme Court certified Bush's 537-vote victory margin over Gore in Florida to settle the outcome.

Since then, Gore has not shied away from criticizing Bush; his latest book, "The Assault on Reason," is a relentless attack against the administration. And the White House's response when Gore won the Nobel Prize was less than giddy.

Never mind all that.

"I know that this president does not harbor any resentments," White House press secretary Dana Perino said. "Never has."

Indeed, the White House tried to make clear that Bush was hosting Gore not out of obligation, but genuine interest.

Bush personally invited Gore. The White House changed its original date to accommodate Gore. And then there was the private Bush-Gore meeting, too.

When it was over, the scene took a bit of turn for the weird.

Gore said he didn't want to comment. But with the media waiting for him, Gore and his wife, Tipper, walked out along Pennsylvania Avenue and up 17th Street, apparently toward their car — even though the White House is adept at helping people slip away unnoticed if they want.

The media horde followed the Gores for several minutes. When a veteran reporter asked Gore if he missed all the attention, he adeptly turned the question around. "When you leave this beat," he said, "I'm gonna ask you."

Too bad it couldn't have been an Alexander Hamilton (Bush) vs. Aaron Burr (Gore)
meeting

A duel mano to mano (without rigged help from others) We all know who would win a fair one to one (vote)

No wonder Cheney had chest pains today

Cheney experiences irregular heartbeat

By TERENCE HUNT, AP White House Correspondent

Vice President Dick Cheney, who has a history of heart problems, experienced an irregular heartbeat Monday and was taken to George Washington University Hospital for evaluation.

The condition was detected when Cheney was seen by doctors around 7 a.m. at the White House for a lingering cough from a cold. He remained at work throughout the day, joining President Bush in meetings with Mideast leaders.

"During examination he was incidentally found to have an irregular heartbeat, which on further testing was determined to be atrial fibrillation, an abnormal rhythm involving the upper chambers of the heart," said spokeswoman Megan Mitchell.

She said Cheney went to the hospital around 5 p.m. She said that if necessary, he would be receive cardioversion, a procedure that involves the delivery of an electric impulse to the heart.

About 2.8 million Americans have atrial fibrillation, the most common type of irregular heartbeat, and cases are increasing as the population ages.

The condition occurs when the heart's top chambers, called the atria, get out of sync with the bottom chambers' pumping action. It is not immediately life-threatening, and the heart sometimes gets back into rhythm on its own. Many times, patients aren't aware of an episode of atrial fibrillation.

But if the irregular heartbeat continues, it eventually can cause a life-threatening complication — the formation of blood clots that can shoot to the brain and cause a stroke.

The main treatment is to try an electrical shock to restore normal heartbeat. If that doesn't work, patients may need to take the blood thinner warfarin to reduce stroke risk.

Other options include anti-arrhythmic drugs or, for severe a-fib, surgical procedures to interrupt the faulty heartbeat.

Cheney has had four heart attacks, quadruple bypass surgery, two artery-clearing angioplasties and an operation to implant a defibrillator six years ago. In July he had surgery to replace the defibrillator which monitors his heartbeat.

The type of defibrillator Cheney has is used to prevent sudden death from a very different type of irregular heartbeat that starts in the bottom of the heart. The atrial fibrillation, in contrast, requires a different type of treatment.

In 2005, Cheney had six hours of surgery on his legs to repair a kind of aneurysm, a ballooning weak spot in an artery that can burst if left untreated. In March, doctors discovered that he had a deep venous thrombosis in his left lower leg. After an ultrasound in late April, doctors said the clot was slowly getting smaller.

Gore looks great. He seems to stay with his diet because he looks slimmer and slimmer. Time to run for president.

This whole scenario is very very scary .... especially in the light of some things I have found out in my recent researches and studies about the secret societies and governments.

Once during a tour I made with a band I was a member of, we did a show for a week with "The Ink Spots". I had many conversations with Billy Byrd, one of the original "Spots", and mentioned one time, due to something going on that was questionable concerning our booking agency, that I did not know whom to trust. His advice, Billy's, was "Don't trust anyone, ever".

Mr Byrd was a very wise and traveled man and was a man with a "Good Heart". I have always taken heed to his advice.

The photos show the usual microphones jammed in his face, and I'm assuming reporters asked him "the question." Anyone know how he answered?

And I must say, both Al and Tipper look fantastic. Tipper seems to get prettier by the day, and Al is looking great.

Al Gore looks very dashing and the THIEF looks haggard. Can we say he's getting his just desserts?

AlGoreFan - November 27, 2007 07:21 AM (GMT)
the pics make my stomach turn

I would love to see a big roundhouse right from Al directly to geedubs nose.

Al would crush the shrimp chimp.

tkdveg - November 27, 2007 04:17 PM (GMT)
Bush looks even wimpier standing next to Gore! Didn't think that was possible, but I guess we haven't seen the two in the same room for a while. Gore keeps much better company than that!
I hope Al gave W a well-deserved verbal lashing during their 40-minute private meeting...somehow I doubt it was ALL about global warming!

And does the resident even have the ability to wipe that smarmy grin off his face...
I'm so tired of that smarmy, arrogant #^^&%#^...

I love that they left on foot, too.

Rhetorical question: How do you have an irregular heartbeat if you have no heart?

oleblueraider - November 27, 2007 11:20 PM (GMT)
Someone had the outtakes of the photo opp online in film, not just pics. The pics were the 30 seconds they both could smile at all.

It was very stiff. They would not look at each other! It was very strained!

I bet Gore tactfully pled his case on the enviornment and probably asked how his family was and his plans after leaving the White house, mostly small talk to be nice!

Gore is quite good at that sort of thingy!
