| Futurama is back and better than ever 4 stars John Black Entertainment Editor Forget about the Oscar and the Nobel Peace Prize: Al Gore is back and bigger than ever playing himself in the new Futurama movie. OK, maybe it's not a huge selling point, but just knowing Gore has enough of a sense of humor about himself to be part of Futurama: Bender's Big Score is enough for me to vote for him (even if he isn't running). Gore's appearance is only one of the twisted pleasures to be found in Bender's Big Score. Four years after being canceled by Fox television, Matt Groening's other amazing animated series is finally back. This time Earthling Philip J. Fry and his co-workers at Planet Express delivery have to save the world from a trio of time traveling interstellar nudists. The gags fly fast and furious in Bender's Big Score, and the bulk of them are hilariously funny even if you aren't familiar with the original series. Fans, however, will be treated to an additional layer of irreverent humor as the writers skewer everything in their path, particularly the Fox executives who canceled them in the first place. |
