Title: The American People Must Be Heard
Description: We must not give up
wulfd2007 - November 22, 2007 12:31 PM (GMT)
I'm sorry to start another topic, but I think it merits another one. We have pushed so hard to let Al Gore know that we seriously want him in office. We send him petitions, letters, and even set up websites declaring that we want him as president. But is it enough? Thanks to Dolphins4Gore and earnAlGore, this is the new proposition. Instead of just telling him, we show him. We protest about war, animal rights, and other such things, why not this. We have it in us, as US citizens, to rally together and SHOW him we want him as the next President. Nothing speaks stronger than people rallying together for a common cause, and even more so when its a physical showing and not just on paper or a screen. I for one, as I'm sure with countless others, are not going to sit idly by as we watch people run for office that we, for the most part, do not want in office. We have but one chance to correct the wrong doings of the corrupt Bush administration next year and if we mess up, or give up, I see our country going down a path that we will never escape from. We must rally together, as brothers and sisters of a common cause, and show our government and the world that we will not take this anymore. The government thinks it can push us around, telling us what to do. If it wasn't for the people, our government would not exist. We have the right to say and do as we please and we will not let people who believe themselves to be higher than us tell us what we can and cannot do. We, the people of the United States of America, the greatest nation on earth, must stand against our government and tell them how our country will be run.

I hear you wulfd2007. We're here in the US today stuffing our faces and watching parades and football while you're in harms way in Iraq doing who knows what. Just keep the oil coming so folks here can power up those big pick-ups later on and head out for a little deer hunting. Ahh, the good life! We can't be bothered with depressing scenes from the middle east. What a downer that would be! Besides, who has time for it? We're much too busy arranging our sale coupons so that we can hit the stores early tomorrow morning to get the best deals on Christmas presents.
Of COURSE I'm being sarcastic above. I've become increasingly pissed off over the past 7 years and am feeling really helpless and hopeless that I'm able to affect change, or that even with the groundswell of support and momentum from the draft Gore movement that was finally gathering a full head of steam, anything good and lasting will come of it.
Sorry, every now and then I do rant a little. Since a halt was put to the efforts to get Gore on some ballots recently I've watched the momentum drop many notches and the energy just shrivel up for the most part. Many who are still around for whatever reason, (for me it's denial), just bicker, name call, and insult one another. I'm weary and dreading the future without Gore in office. I can't get the last line of the Who song, "We Won't Get Fooled Again" out of my head....."Meet the new boss, same as the old boss." Looks like we WILL get fooled again...and again...etc.
Anyway.....I sincerely hope that you and everyone here has a peaceful and happy Thanksgiving wherever you may be. I'm thankful for a lot (really) and will try and focus on those things today.
Take care and thank you for your service to our country. :Y:

Very well said, TNblue, and that song keeps running through my head too.
Too bad people can't see their own doom coming at them like a run-a-way freight train.
Happy turkey day everybody.... and wulfd2007, may God keep you safe and bring all of you home soon, 'cause our wonderful leaders don't seem to give a crap about you....BUT.... We do...!

"We, the people of the United States of America, the greatest nation on earth, must stand against our government and tell them how our country will be run."
Sadly, truer words were never spoke. We are at a crossroads. We are where the colonists were in the 1770's.
It is hard, very hard, to admit that something you loved and respected has gone sour. That is why there is a "battered wife syndrome."
We the people are the battered wives, thinking that maybe he will be good to us if we just try a little harder. But "he" is a sociopath who will eventually kill us if we don't do something about it. And there is nothing - NOTHING - within the bounds of normal, defined processes that will fix this. Just trying to elect better politicians within the corrupt, Diebold-rigged, PAC-fed system is not going to do it.
In those days in the 18th century, people met in secret to discuss how to throw off the yoke of repression. They knew, once they declared independence, that if their efforts failed they would all be hanged. And yet they proceeded, because it mattered enough to them.
"Our" government has been quite busy setting up systems to assure that no such effort will stand a chance. They are spying and wiretapping; they have passed laws to allow them to "disappear" us if king george decides we are terrist-sympathizers; they have put in place policies to allow them to declare martial law, just as Musharraf did. Why do you suppose king george is saying so little about what is happening in Pakistan?

So ... let's have some meetings....!
I would rather be hanged than put up with another minute of King George's bullsh!t

The way it should be.

Don't shop Black Friday
Stay at home
The ten dollars more it costs to buy the same piece of materialism can be made back 100 times over if the protests work
Look at the little bunch of Hollywood writers...those paunchy middle age guys have bought Fox and Murdock and all those other mega-corps to their knees the first week of their strike
And look at those Broadway stagehands- they are not even looking for more money, just to make what their last contract stated.
Why are these strikes not being publicized by the MSM? Because they don't want the people to get the idea that strikes do work
Organize
Unionize
Strike
Don't purchase
That is the message that should be heard by the mainstream politicians
We are mad as Hell and we ain't gonna take it no more

I hear what you all are saying. One thing to keep in mind is that the people backing Gore are not all tree hugging liberals. A lot of people are backing Gore based purely on the fact that what he stands for is the survival of human kind. It's not a left or right wing issue so there are a lot of different opinions around here. We're not all going to agree on everything, only that it's time to try to start making the world a safe place to bring children into.
Any actions taken need to keep global warming as the focus, with Al Gore as our chosen leader. And hopefully, "If the people lead, The leaders will follow."
