I thought I'd mention a nascent technology that also happens to be an ancient one. This farming practice can take carbon out of the atmosphere and improve crop yields at the same time. Unlike typical vegetation growth and decay, when biochar is added to the soil the carbon therein stays put for centuries to millenia - instead of just the next growing season. All it apparently needs is a little economics (e.g. a carbon tax that Al Gore has mentioned) to make it doable...
