Group pushing Al Gore to air TV adBY JIM KUHNHENN
A national group seeking to draft Al Gore as a Democratic presidential candidate will begin airing a television ad on CNN and in New Hampshire promoting a petition drive to encourage the former vice president to run.
The 30-second spot by DraftGore.com will hit the airwaves Friday. Gore, who recently was a co-winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, has rebuffed efforts to persuade him to enter the contest.
The ad may not do much good in New Hampshire, where it is scheduled to run for three days. Friday is the deadline for candidates to file for a ballot position in the New Hampshire primary.
''I'm afraid we're very much aware of that,'' said DraftGore founder Monica Friedlander. She said the group needed to raise funds and was unable to get rights to certain Gore speeches, delaying the ad's production.
In the ad, an announcer says: ``Imagine what tomorrow can be. Imagine a renewed world, an end to the war in Iraq. Imagine Al Gore as president ... Call him. Write him. Seize the moment''
The ad reminds viewers that Gore first opposed the war in Iraq in September 2002 and makes note of his share of the Nobel Peace Prize, which was announced last month.
''I believe our success in defending ourselves depends precisely on not giving up what we stand for,'' Gore says in a clip taken from a rally leading up to the 2000 convention.
DraftGore spent about $50,000 on the ads, which will run on CNN for five days and on station WMUR in Manchester, N.H., from Friday through Sunday.Friedlander said that if Gore were to decide to run and files for primaries that come after New Hampshire, her group would try to mount a write-in campaign in New Hampshire.

OK, apparently it's on today. I have CNN on and they just talked about it as news. "Al Gore supporters just won't give up," Wolf said with the ad playing in the background, then talked about the ad playing in NH and on CNN.
And....what WAS that I sort of heard while typing this? Something about a meeting in Nashville, TN to convince Al to "jump in as an Independent?"
Did anyone else just hear that?

Since I'm in the library right now, no I didn't hear what you are talking about, but I did see the ad about 1:25 pm West Coast time. :good:

I definitely heard something to that effect. It caught my ear when they said "Nashville, Tennessee..." and then I heard something about (who???) meeting to try and convince him to run "as an Independent". I wonder who met with Gore. How can we find out?
I'm only watching CNN to try and catch the ad. ;)

We can get the transcripts to see if that was said.

Here's the link to the transcript from today's THE SITUATION ROOM and what was said about AL GORE.
http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/071...sitroom.01.htmlAlso coming up, Al Gore's political supporters just can't let go. You're going to find out what they're doing now to try to draft himSenator Clinton might see this on New Hampshire TV. It's a new ad urging fellow Democrat Al Gore to run for president again. The grass groups -- grassroots group DraftGore.com also is airing the 30- second spot nationally, including here on CNN. The ad asks viewers to seize the moment and encourage the former vice president and Nobel Prize winner to jump into the 2008 race. Gore repeatedly has said he has no plans to run.

I think this is what I heard.
And Mimi in Nashville, Tennessee: "Enough to hopefully prompt Al Gore to jump in as an independent" -- Wolf.
I think I heard "Mimi" as "At a MEETING in....." Oh, well. At least some news. :(

Let's check back with Jack Cafferty for "The Cafferty File."
JACK CAFFERTY, CNN ANCHOR: Wolf, the question this hour is, how much damage has Hillary Clinton done to herself this week. It hasn't been her best week so far.

No, it wasn't Mimi's voice. I heard that statement by Wolf in the background while I was not paying full attention and thought it said something about a meeting (sounds similar to Mimi) in Nashville, blah blah blah. I guess that's all there was to it.

With all the fighting going on in other threads, I was wondering has any one seen the ad on CNN??? I've seen it a couple of times, it's a damn good ad, just wish they would show it more often.
We need AL GORE as our next president. :good:

I viewed it online but since I keep the boob tube turned off most of the time I haven't seen it on CNN.

Apparently a lot of people have seen it, because the petition is growing faster again.
ALGOREismylife - November 5, 2007 10:13 PM (GMT)
I've actually seen it twice today and haven't watched much of CNN. I'm glad they show it at different times during the day to give more people in all parts of the country to see it. But will it work??? I guess all we can do is hope.

I do not want to call Gore stubborn, but I cannot think of any other reason he is still on the sidelines. I am no Nostrodomus, but after last week, it is so predictable that Hillary is going to nosedive like Dean four years ago, yet we have no one to viably fill the vacuum except Gore. What in Earth is he waiting for? Ten more primary states' deadlines to come and Go---re. The party is thirsting for somone other than Hillary. Rudy will NEVER win the nomination, so these head to head polls between HLC and Rudy mean nothing. Romney or dare I say McCain will, and their head-to-head numbers against Hillary are much better. The base never crawled back to Dean because Kerry emerged. There is no Kerry in 2008. It will reluctantly hitch its ride to HLC, and we will lose. Unless, he enters. Does he want another 4 to 8 years of environmental policy intransigence? Well, we'll know soon.

It's getting frustrating, but I haven't give up. What worries if AL, damn I hate to say it, doesn't run is four or eight more years of republicans. Since this racist country would not allow an African-American or a woman to be president, atleast not now.
I have nothing against a woman or African-American becoming our president. I'm all for it, but the damn racist and bigoted republicans will do everything they can to rig and steal another presidential election if one of them gets the democratic nomination. And the others running don't have a chance. Edwards, Kucinich or Richardson will never make it and many people have never even heard of Biden, Gravel, or Dodd.
And yet it seems to me this country can not afford another four or eight years of hell......Republicans.
AL GORE is our only hope, can't he see that??? We are screwed if he doesn't run.
Texan for Gore - November 5, 2007 11:45 PM (GMT)
I agree with you AGIMlL. It wouldn't bother me to have a woman or black President. I am just really worried about the fate of our country and feel we really need someone in there with a heck of a lot of experience and knowledge. That person is AL GORE.
My fear is that Hillary will get the nomination and by then all the Repubs will be confident because Al didn't get in and will start bringing out both guns - meaning they will go for the jugular on Hillary. Someone mentioned a sex scandal possibly coming out against her later on. I'm afraid they'll turn everyone against her and definitely win the election then.
And you're right, we can't afford 8 more years of HELL!!!
