I must be honest. As a diehard Democrat, I had numerous questions about whether or not Mr. Gore would make a good president although I supported him and voted for him in the 2000 election. After the unbelievable disaster in Florida and Mr. Gore's gracious acceptance of what I can only call crooked politics, we have been cursed with Bush. I do not need to expound on my meaning as I am sure everyone reading this post knows exactly where I am coming from. We have endured this creature for eight years and finally, he is about to be a thing of the past.
First of all, I give Mr. Gore a lot of credit for his involvement with the Internet; did he create it? No, I don't believe he did but he was very instrumental in the evolution of it and for that, he should be honored. Secondly, I am humbled by Mr. Gore's tireless efforts to bring awareness to the people of the world about global warming. I am quite aware of the nay-sayers as I am a resident of Alaska. I have lived in Alaska for the past nine years and I can see the affects of global warming. I lived in the Nome for four years and when I first moved there, it was so cold, frozen and almost unbearable. However, by the time I reached my fourth year in Nome, there was an absolute difference in temperatures during both winter and summer. Temperatures that reached 60 below in winter reached zero and summer temperatures that never got above 70, climbed into the high 70's by the end of my four years. I could go on and on about the changes I personally saw while living in Nome but that would prove redundant.
With all the above being said, I would like to say that I believe Mr. Gore has proven himself extremely worthy and indeed entitled to share the Nobel Peace Prize. His tireless efforts regarding global warming have long gone unnoticed and I am thrilled his work has finally been recognized. Mr. Gore, you didn't lose the election, you gained a new purpose, which has proven to be a significant contribution on a world-wide scale and I am forever grateful. You have far exceeded anything you could have done as president, in my opinion. However, if you choose to run, you will have me as a huge supporter.
