SAN FRANCISCO --
Contrary to other media reports, former Vice President Al Gore has appeared in San Francisco on Thursday for a scheduled appearance at a Barbara Boxer fundraising event. There had been speculation that Gore may have cancelled the scheduled appearance in order to fly overseas in connection with his work on global warming.

At the event, Gore was greeted by roaring applause.
“We want to encourage both parties…the whole climate crises is not a political issue," Gore said. "It shouldn’t be seen as a partisan issue.”
“We have everything we need to get started. It’s important in describing the incredible danger of this climate crisis not to paralyze people with the fear of what we are facing. We have to call upon our courage as free men and women to make decisions about what is in the best interest of our civilization. And it is our whole civilization that is at risk.”
Some of the speculation centered around the possibility that Gore might win the Nobel Prize in connection with that climate change work.
The speculation started because Boxer herself released a statement to the media Wednesday stating that Gore would not be showing up.
“I just got a call from Vice President Al Gore,” Boxer said in a statement. “He told me that he needs to travel abroad tomorrow for an exciting and urgent mission that could result in a major breakthrough in the fight against global warming.”
One of the people attending the event told NBC11 Thursday that Gore had in fact decided not to fly overseas.
If Gore does in fact win the Prize, newspapers coast to coast are asking if he may then run for president.
There is a strong "Draft-Gore" movement in the Bay Area.
Associates have said, however, he has no plans to run.
U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., is holding the fundraiser for her 2010 campaign committee Thursday with Gore at 4 p.m.
Musicians Bonnie Raitt and Jackson Browne will also perform to benefit Boxer's campaign in the Westin St. Francis Hotel's Colonial Room at 335 Powell St. in San Francisco.
