My name is Amy and I'm a student at State University of New York at Albany. I'm 30 years old and a veteran of OEF.
As we come close to the next Presidential election, I am weary. The candidates I see are either compromised (Clinton), inexperienced (Obama), or unknown. I am afraid of the Nader effect - a split vote delivering the nomination to a Republican candidate who will continue to promote their own self-interests, as if oblivious to the people, the ideals and the needs of this nation.
I am strongly considering starting a campaign at my school, which I have tentatively named Project Caitlin after my daughter, to encourage a write-in campaign for Gore - Obama.
Despite Obama's inexperience, he has shown himself capable of stepping apart and voting his conscience, in favor of Democracy, rather than withering under the threats, finger-pointing and smear campaigns. I believe he would be better suited to the role of VP, as he has incredible potential, but his inexperience will work against him as a possible presidential candidate in 2008.
Above all, however, Gore is my Presidential candidate. I don't know how far this will go, or how much support we will muster, but I know many likeminded people. If we can show Mr. Gore how much we want this - he will run.
Please let me know if you have any advice, ideas, suggestions about how we can further this plan, so as a nation we can get started getting things right.
First thing, it seems to me, Gore has to enter the race. If he does, I think a Gore-Obama ticket is what the Dems need and there will be alot of support for it.
How about a Gore-Obama website that asks people to declare their support of a Gore-Obama ticket, and has links to various sites discussing the possibility? Gore supporters have different preferences for veep, but I think Obama is probably the most common preference. You might post a comment at www.gore-obama.us and see if they have any ideas.
It is a pipe dream, but I would love it if Gore entered the race, Obama stepped out of it, and then Gore declared that Obama would be his veep. That would blow the rest of the field away instantaneously.
Good luck!
