“RUN, AL, RUN” Rally & Concert in Iowa

Citizen’s for a Great Presidential Candidate (CGPC), a recently formed Iowa Political Action Committee is pleased to announce a Rally & Concert in Des Moines, Iowa to promote the candidacy of Former Vice President Al Gore for the Presidency of the United States. The Rally & Concert will be held Sunday, October 21 at Hoyt Sherman Place Theatre.
CGPC is part of a rapidly burgeoning grass roots movement across the United States, convinced Al Gore is the best possible choice for President at this time. We believe this election to be one of the most important in many decades and that Al Gore is the Churchill of our time.
The Rally has three goals:
1. Send a message to Al Gore that many people care enough about his candidacy to organize and hold an event of this nature.
2. Respectfully request Iowa caucus participants to keep an open mind at this time and reflect upon the increasing possibility of an Al Gore campaign for the Presidency.
3. Through the simultaneous broadcast of this event over the internet include and involve others from across the nation working for a Gore candidacy.
The Rally & Concert will be held on Sunday, October 21, starting at 5:00PM. The Des Moines location is the beautiful and historic Hoyt Sherman Theater. $20.00 general admission tickets will be on sale at the Hoyt Sherman Theater box office or through TicketMaster.
The event will comprise a dynamic mix of musicians, speakers and innovative individuals with creative thoughts and ideas on issues of energy and climate.
Five musical acts already have been booked for this event. Paul Kaplan, based in Amherst, MA, created the song, “Run, Al Run,” which is becoming the anthem of the Draft Gore movement. The iconic Iowa-based Blue Band, recently inducted into the Iowa Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, has earned a faithful and dedicated following throughout Iowa and the mid-west. Lady Blue features Tina Haase Findlay (band leader & vocals), whose rich voice has been critically acclaimed wherever she performs. Home Grown Tomatoes mixes humor and energy in every performance, an organic music mix of life in Iowa. Mary McAdams, a Des Moines based singer song writer originally from Madison, WI, presents a mix of electrified acoustic folk and traditional American blended with the blues.
The program will include a variety of political speakers and those providing innovative solutions to issues of energy and global warming. Steve Gruhn, an Iowa businessman from Spirit Lake, has visions for renewable energy. Through his initiative Winds of Change, Gruhn foresees a future of research and developing new forms of renewable energy. Plans include a unique proposal for the production of Hydrogen and Synthetic Fuels leading to reduced carbon dioxide emissions. Chris Olsen has invented a low tech solution for harnessing energy from waves, receiving strong interest from a number of developing countries.
Other feature presenters and speakers will be announced as CGPC completes arrangements.
Former Vice President Al Gore’s many accomplishments are well documented. His focus on global warming and its consequences have been based on reason and science. Now even the Bush Administration no longer disputes these self evident truths. With the many difficult issues to be faced by the next President from Iraq to the need for a comprehensive overhaul of the nation’s health care system it is our belief that Al Gore will bring rigorous intellect, deep experience, widespread respect within the international community and a passion to have the United States live up to its full potential.
As evidenced by Al Gore’s recent best selling book, “The Assault on Reason,” another vitally important area of concern is the need to re-invigorate and deepen the workings of American democracy. Mr. Gore’s passion is to: “hope for the re-introduction of reason to its proper role at the heart of the deliberative process of self government”.
The “Run, Al, Run” Concert & Rally reflects a national network of interested groups and individuals who believe that such a grassroots event can create a strong groundswell of support to encourage Gore to serve his country. This event will be broadcast live via the Internet.

The rally will be funded through a combination of ticket sales and donations. Donations should be sent to:

A small group of Iowans calling themselves "Citizens for a Great Presidential Candidate" has formed, hoping Al Gore might run again. Gore has repeatedly said he does not plan to run "at this time," but Peter Ryder of Cedar Rapids says that leaves a "glimmer of hope" Gore might change his mind.

:wtf: I can't find any information on this! Did it happen yet? Is it GOING to happen? Where did my money go?

earthmother - November 1, 2007 04:26 PM (GMT)
Ugh. I should have sent out an e-mail about this because people are wondering where their donations went (I sent money in, too).

The event was changed because everything changed as we got this late in the cycle, and it just didn't make sense to do it anymore. So instead of using the money for the concert, the money will be used for coffee clatches heading into the Iowa caucuses. We're going to do everything we can to get people to vote for Gore in the caucuses. If we do respectably, it will be a very good thing.

So your money is going to a very worthy cause, more so, I believe, than the concert would have been, especially this late in the game. What we need to do now is focus on getting Iowa into Gore's camp and convincing people that they should vote for him at the caucuses.

Oh. Thanks Earthmother.

Keith Olbermann just did a story about Hillary planting a question about global warming from someone in the audience during a talk in Iowa. Hmm. Do you think she's trying to appease the Iowa Draft Gore folks? I wonder how it's going there.

Slight change: The organizer of the Iowa concert has said he'll be sending e-mails or letters to all who contributed and will be giving them the option of having their money returned.

:( Did the whole thing fall apart? How bad of a sign would that be?

Could we opt to have the money sent to a stronger more organized group?

EarthMother, are we in trouble? I took a few days off, hoping that it would have the reverse effect of driving Gore into the race. Sometimes when my sports teams are way behind in a game, I will turn off the television for a while and check back in. Once in awhile, I am delighted to see they have overcome the defecit. I hoped by distancing myself from the speculation, I would be equally, pleasantly surprised when I returned. Darn!!!

As I predicted, Hillary is starting to slip, first from the debate performance a couple of weeks ago, second from the revelations about Bush-like plants in her press corp and now revelations of cheating. If Gore entered today, he would literally waltz to victory. It would be almost as uncompetitive as an incumbent running unopposed in his own party. Does he not realize the lack of resistance to his victory? I do believe that, to borrow his phrase, we are close to a tipping point where a late entrance would hurt rather than help him in light of deadlines; message dissemnation; procuring endorsements; and rebutting the obvious slander that would be hurtled his direction. We are not there yet; that is I believe there is still more benefit to waiting just a little bit longer, like two or three days. Then, the benefit of being a fresh face is out-weighed by the obtsacles of getting in late. Oh, do I hope and pray that he is like a wide receiver who runs twenty in-routes to set up the deep throw for the winning score. Please Lord let there be such a play left.

Not only do we stand a good chance of losing if HRC gets the nomination, but personally it would be one boring cycle.

I got a letter today from the representative of Citizen's for a Great Presidential Candidate in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In it was a check. My donation was being sent back.

How sad. :(

earthmother - November 20, 2007 03:50 AM (GMT)
I haven't received mine yet, but I imagine it will be coming. And I did receive my check back a couple of days ago that I'd sent to the New Hampshire effort.

Very sad, indeed. :(

Well, I guess if the money is going to trickle back in I could use it to buy Christmas presents. :santa:

No other candidate is going to get it, that's for sure.

To Al: "I'll have a (TN) bluuuuuuuuuuuuuuue Christmas without youuuuu!" <_<

I got my check and letter today, just glad I got the mail I didn't tell my husband I donated.

I just feel sort of numb right now, like in a holding pattern.

 Ah...well now, there's a thought. My husband wasn't fully aware either and just raised an eyebrow when the check came back. More could be coming from other states.

Hmm....
