Al Gore To Accuse Bush Administration Of Intentional Distortion On Iraq/Al Qaeda Ties In DC Speech Thursday

(Washington, DC)--In a major policy address this Thursday, Al Gore will accuse the Bush Administration of intentionally misleading the American people by continuing to falsely claim a connection between Saddam Hussein and Al Qaeda.

He will charge that Bush and Cheney have “institutionalized dishonesty as an essential element of their policy process.”

Gore will also urge the broadcast media to further resist Administration efforts to manipulate and intimidate them, to fearlessly report the fact that there is no Al Qaeda/Saddam collaborative relationship, as the 9/11 Commission staff report has concluded.

Gore will also discuss the implications of the Administration’s claim to be above the law in ordering the torture of suspects – and their claim that the Commander in Chief’s power trumps all other laws. He will call for the Administration to reveal all orders given the military on the treatment of prisoners.

The speech is sponsored by the American Constitution Society for Law and Policy (ACS). ACS is one of the nation’s leading progressive legal organizations. Founded in 2001, ACS is comprised of law students, lawyers, scholars, judges, policymakers, activists and other concerned individuals who are working to ensure that the fundamental principles of human dignity, individual rights and liberties, genuine equality, and access to justice to their rightful, central place in American law. ACS, is a 501©(3) non-profit educational organization, and does not lobby, litigate or take positions on specific issues, cases, legislation or nominations.

Any idea if it will be carried on TV or radio?

Good question!

On that thought, everyone PLEASE call C-span and ask them to cover this. They may not know about it yet. We perhaps can at least get them to record it and play it back later.

and email them

There isn't much time..this kind of popped up on us.

Looks like Gore has found his niche, and it's a role that only someone who's not running for or holding an elected office can play. He's free to criticize everyone as much as he pleases without fear of how it'll affect his electability. We need his voice now more than ever. I'd like to think he'd be saying the same things if he were running for president, but somehow I think it would be toned down some if he were running. Can't wait to hear the latest from him.

With as much horror that has been unleashed as a result of the Bush cabal I tend to think that Gore would still be laying it on them if he were running. Kerry ought to run with Gore...probably won't happen but wouldn't you like to see Gore tear into Cheney at the debates?

I'd pay good money to see Gore tear into any of them in a debate.

I surely hope that it is covered by CSPAN. There is always something they think is more important to cover such as the Schawarzenneger decesion, raising the terror level, etc. I mean it is something everything. I sincerley believe it is deliberate.

Missed it! Not happy with CSPAN either.
Wonder if they even taped it to televise later. There was nothing on the schedule when I checked it a few minutes ago.

I missed it, I missed it! :spikey: Are you saying Fox covered the speech? No way! Well, I'll have to wait and read it, as always.
