Title: Gore Just Won An Emmy
Description: And Said "Reclaim American Democracy"
IanOC - September 17, 2007 02:22 AM (GMT)
Gore just won an Emmy for Current TV and mentioned how we need to "reclaim American democracy...more next month." Yes, well, I hope so.
dbciii - September 17, 2007 02:25 AM (GMT)
Thanks for the update!
I forgot all about it and watched football! :(
did he really say "more next month" ?????
TNblue - September 17, 2007 02:30 AM (GMT)
Oh, he DID say that didn't he?
What could that mean? I suppose it was in the context of Current TV...or perhaps something else?
(I hated having to watch Fox just to see Gore. Yuk!)
Anon - September 17, 2007 02:40 AM (GMT)
The "more next month" was about the internet version of Current TV, current.com, launching in October.
TNblue - September 17, 2007 02:45 AM (GMT)
Phooey. I kinda figured it had to do with Current. :(

Yeah, it was too good to be true otherwise.

 Congratulations Al Gore and Current TV!!
Restore American Democracy -- YOU BET
He seems to be saying these comments that could have multiple meanings, just like the letter in support of the DCCC ;)
Buckle your seatbelts ladies and gentlemen -- More Next Month :D

Wow another award, another day of Silence
Wasted opportunities
Another thing for him to stare at on his mantle if he don't get into the race
Memo to Al- your dad wanted your PRESIDENTIAL MEMORABILIA on that mantle, remember? Not Oscars and Emmy's and Nobles...(oh my)...
Brad Pitt or Brad Garrett don't save the world in real life, but you can but not by staring at your awards ...(it is addicting though I guess...vapid, as it is)
And on Fox, conspiring with the enemy
Patsy - September 17, 2007 03:39 AM (GMT)
His Current TV pardner said that Gore was a man of vision. I think that the stage is being set for something big.
valadon245 - September 17, 2007 04:12 AM (GMT)
And he got a standing ovation!

Congrats AL!!!
DKOS DIARY

Please.....this is a way for others to honor him.....why are you detracting from that?
Whether he runs or not there are people who want to express their admiration not only for him, but his work.
Wayne in WA State - September 17, 2007 04:15 AM (GMT)
I hope no one was expecting to hear some kind of announcement today. Not gonna happen. Probably nothing is going to happen until at least October 12th or probably later.
A day without General Sherman is a good day ;)
earnAlGore - September 17, 2007 04:15 AM (GMT)
I'm on the west coast and haven't seen this yet, but
agree with Patsy and Wayne.
'restore American democracy',...?
Sounds like "buckle our seatbelts' for
'something BIG' to me.
:D :D :D :D

honors are for people at the end of their career
We are on this board for Gore the statesmen
NOT Gore the celebrity
WE can go on a fanclub celebrity board for that
Everyday of silence, 1000s of more people world wide are brutally killed by Bush's war
And 1000s more will die tomorrow and the next day
Every day
We do not have 10 years to wait to change things
They need to be changed yesterday
This waiting game is getting tiring, because by waiting, it means no change will happen til 2009
What about Iran?
Leaders in the 1960s and 1970s would have marched in solidarity with the protesters in Washington DC Saturday, like Rev. Martin Luther King and Eugene MCCarthy did back then.
Which instantly would have given the protesters more validity had someone like Al Gore marched with them
Yea, yea, yea Al won his Emmy
That sure don't help America any.
He owes us nothing, however, I for one am only here for President Al Gore, not Emmy winner Al Gore or Nobel Prize winner Al Gore
Jimmy Carter already was long retired before winning his Nobel Peace Prize
And he won it for a lifetime of events, but the main event occured AS President
(and last I heard, Current was a FOR-PROFIT thingydingy...)

The next election for president of the United States is about 14 months from now. The 2008 Democratic Convention is nearly 11 months from now. I don't think that it's at all productive to belittle something like the Emmy Award. If we want to win and make change, not just complain and make noise, I think Gore is on an excellent trajectory.
ReElectAlGore2008 - September 17, 2007 05:07 AM (GMT)
People celebrated election eve 2006 too
I for one didn't
I was proven correct very shortly after
I would much rather have seen Al in DC protesting with real people instead of in La La land with millionaires and superstars
Nobody hands one the Presidency
Same token, nobody hands one an Emmy
There is alot of ugly campaigning for that too
Alot of behind the scenes action (and believe me, I personally know how the entertainment world operates)
You gotta grease alot of palms to make things happen
Great for Al personally, but this is a political board as stated.
Would much rather seen Al protesting in DC like Dr. King did in 1960s.
That is when change actually happened. Because Dr. King walked the walk.
The silence in DC from any leader was defeaning.
And Bush won the week, Iran soon to follow. Nobody to stop it
Congrats Al on your emmy...but seems to me not very important in the world wide scope of things.
Seems to me, we all would be making light of anyone else who did the same thing if it were not "our Al"
The first race is now less than 110 days away in January
Hillary will clinch it the way things look less than 130 days from now, and counting.
Hope that makes you happy. It sure don't make me happy.

I agree Wayne...it's not "just an Emmy" it is a recognition of Al......the whole package, his years of service, his recent contributions and it is a way for people to honor those things. You can't compartmentalize who he is personally as a human being from what he does as a citizen or as a political figure. I think the best thing for me was seeing others display their real regard for him.
ReElectAlGore2008 - September 17, 2007 09:06 AM (GMT)
Al is great
Al is God
But Hillary is going to be President unless Great God Al runs for President
As simple as 1 plus 1 =2
Unless Al runs for VP
which most here says can't happen
Then one nation-one leader=ZER0
BTW-why did Al not mention a word about the odd coincidences of the 6 soldiers who have shown up dead
All 6 have possibly been the ones who had something to do with that missing bomber and might have spoken up a few days ago and stopped the nuking of Iran for the moment
Yet all 6 are dead, and more may be dying by the day
Someone should speak up on this little tidbit of a point
To not speak up and be in power to treasonous acts allows them to go on
Time is running short
Nagasakee - September 17, 2007 01:24 PM (GMT)
I still stand by my old prediction that the two nominees are Gore and Thomspon...may be right, may be wrong but nothing I have seen so far makes me think otherwise.
IF (and that's the big question) ... if Al is indeed going to run, this non-political political campaign may be one of the shrewdest ever. I agree he is running out of time, but jumping in to "save us from Hillary" at the last minute may have been the best potential process all along. The short time frame keeps the attacks off of him somewhat too. (I say somehwta because Al is still being attacked as any quick Google search points out, on a Daily basis...and he is not even a candidate yet)
The Asturias award, the Oscar, the Emmy DO indeed get Al's face and name out in front of people that are not yet closely following the politcal campaign. These people do vote in the end, they are just not political junkies the way that WE are, here on this board.
I hope Al gets in and wins, the country needs him, as do the soldiers dying in Iraq, as you so correctly point out. The truth of the matter is as John Kerry said in a strong performance on Meet the Press Sunday: the elected Democrats "in power" do not have the power to change the course of the war because they do not have the votes. Even if Al announced today he would not save the life of one single solder...the fact is that unless we win the next election (including bigger majorities in both sides of Congress) our soldiers will continue to die and be wounded on a daily basis. In this specifc case, it is elections that matter...and sadly, announcements do not.
God....I hope he runs.
