Title: America for Gore & $.02 Campaign

Daily Kos:
------------------
America for Gore has launched with a new website, that will be up soon, and a new campaign designed to encourage Al Gore to enter the race for the presidency. The purpose of the group is to provide a national portal to all of the efforts being made to elect Al Gore. In addition to providing a convenient gateway to these projects, we have designed our own campaign so that our launch can be accompanied by immediate action.
The basic idea of the campaign is so simple that a caveman could do it. To convince Gore to step into the race, we are asking all Gore supports to mail him two pennies, together with a note indicating real support will be provided if he accepts the challenge and runs for president. We feel that the mountain of pennies will be a constant reminder to Mr. Gore that America needs and wants him to run.
Our campaign is designed to supplement, not replace anyone else's efforts. There are many initiatives underway to convince Al Gore that we need him to run for president, and all of these efforts contribute to the cause. However, we think that the My Two Cents campaign is going to be very effective and is very easy to promote. All we are asking people to do is drop a couple of pennies in an envelope with a note, stick on a stamp, and mail it off to the address we provide.
People who want to promote the campaign can cooperate by preparing pre-addressed recycled envelopes and distributing them. Or, just carry around a set of preprinted labels with Gore's address and hand those out. Those who want to make it even easier to prepare stamped envelopes with the pennies inside, which they can sell for $.50 and people would just have to add a little note promising more support in the future when Gore is an official candidate.
It seems quite clear that Al Gore has not yet made up his mind about his role in the 2008 collections. He and his staff are well aware of our efforts and initiatives and have done absolutely nothing to discourage us, unlike 2004 when he asked that such actions stop. That's why it is very important that every Al Gore supporter act now to make sure that he is aware of their support. We are just asking you to take a moment from your day and wrap it up with two pennies and send it off to Gore's headquarters. The pennies should be sent, preferably in an envelope made of recycled paper, to:
Office of the Honorable Al Gore
2100 West End Avenue
Suite 620
Nashville, TN 37203
Of course, we greatly appreciate it if you would tell all your friends about the campaign and encourage them to join in.

Sounds like a good idea to me!

The America for Gore Coalition (of which the Gore Support Center and AlGore.org are members) is dedicated to making Al Gore the Democratic candidate for President in 2008. At present, we're working to get Gore’s name on as many state primary ballots as possible, and we continue to work to show support for his candidacy. Time is growing short, and we all need to act NOW to demonstrate our support so that Gore understands how much the country wants him as its next president.
To convince Gore to step into the race, we've launched the "My Two Cents" campaign. We're asking all Gore supporters to mail him two pennies, together with a note indicating that real financial support will be provided if he accepts the challenge and runs for president. We believe that the mountain of pennies his office will receive will be a constant reminder to Mr. Gore that America needs and wants him to run.
Please send a letter telling the Vice President why you want him to be our next president, and enclose two pennies, explaining that you'll send more when he announces his candidacy. Mail letters to:
Office of the Honorable Al Gore
2100 West End Avenue, Suite 620
Nashville, TN 37203.
Please distribute this announcement to your e-mail list and post it on alll Gore-friendly blogs. You can refer people to the America for Gore website at

Thanks for doing your part!

Excellent! Thanks for letting us know.
Here's the letter I've just sent out with my two little pennies taped on:
September 12, 2007
Office of the Honorable Al Gore
2100 West End Avenue, Suite 620
Nashville, TN 37203
Dear Mr. Vice President:
I’d like to put in my two cents regarding you running for president. Here’s how I see it. I know that your primary mission now is to solve the climate crisis. I respect you for that enormously and will support your efforts in whatever way I can. However, even you have acknowledged the critical role the president of the United States will play in helping solve this crisis. And frankly, I don’t have a lot of faith in the ability of any of the declared candidates to make the issue the priority it needs to be. Yes, John Edwards has put forward a decent plan, but he’s the only one. I won’t say that Edwards can’t win the election, but I think his chances are slim. So where will that leave us? We will end up with either a Republican in the White House again (perish the thought!), or with a Democrat such as Hillary or Obama who will only give lip service to the issue of climate change. For this reason alone, I believe it is imperative that you run for president.
Beyond that, no one else has your experience in foreign and domestic affairs, your wisdom, your knowledge, your intelligence, the respect you’ve earned around the world as a diplomat and environmental crusader. No one. Oh, you’ve heard all this before. There’s no sense in rehashing it. So let me just be blunt.
The people want you. The people need you. They know you’re the only person who can hit the ground running when you take office. They trust you. They need your leadership. Who else has been right on all the issues from the beginning? Who else has already won an election? Who else understands how important it is to deal with the climate crisis? I’ve been working with the Draft Gore movement for years, and everywhere I go, what I’ve heard is, “If he’d run, I’d vote for him in a heartbeat.”
You have the support. And with my little two cents in this envelope I make a pledge to you that more will follow if you declare your candidacy.
Please, Mr. Gore. Please. Time is running out, and we need you.
Respectfully,
Karen Wunderman

SAVE AMERICA, SAVE THE WORLD, AL GORE is the only one who can do it.
earthmother - September 13, 2007 12:13 AM (GMT)
Sorry, James, I didn't see that you'd already started a topic on this. I'm going to merge your topic and mine. No telling which one will come out on top!
GreenMom - September 13, 2007 02:13 PM (GMT)
I just sent mine. I wrote it a bit hastily as I wanted to catch the mailman, but I think I made my point. Earthmother, yours was an excellent letter. It feels good to be able to do something.
earthmother - September 13, 2007 06:13 PM (GMT)
I wouldn't worry too much about writing hastily. I doubt they have time to really read all these letters anyway! All that matters is that you send in your two cents and get your message across in whatever way you can. They're gonna have an awful lot of pennies to deal with!

earthmother - September 14, 2007 03:10 AM (GMT)
Good job! I just love thinking about all the letters and pennies they're going to get in Nashville!
The funny thing about this idea is that if you just asked people to send a letter, most wouldn't do it. But something about sending in the two cents makes it so people will do it. It was a very inspired idea, IMO. And you can thank the America for Gore steering committee for that!

EarthMother, I am going to lay it on thick: You're the best!! My pennies will be en route tomorrow and, who knows, I may send some more in the coming days. If nothing else, this will alert Gore to the breadth, passion, and coordination of the movment afoot for his candidacy.
As an aside, I refuse to watch the election thief speak but did read the news coverage of his speech. He is such a heinous individual.
TNblue - September 15, 2007 02:54 AM (GMT)
Hey now, there's an idea. Let's make a batch up to mail one per day and just say" Two more for Gore".
earthmother - September 15, 2007 04:27 AM (GMT)
That actually sounds like a good idea! We just keep sending in two pennies a day until he runs. Spread the word and get people to do it!
AlGoreFan - September 15, 2007 05:13 AM (GMT)
I mailed my two cents today with a handwritten note and this stamp:

marla - September 25, 2007 06:45 PM (GMT)
Did anyone get a reply back? I sent a singing thank you card to Al (thought it would get office peoples attention) and then the two cents with a note both asked him to run.
Then I got back yesterday a form letter dated 9/12/07 saying he is not planning on running. I am wondering why he is still having his office send these? Kind of made me doubt again, but then I went online to a bunch of sites and read many others who think he is just keeping it a secret and I hope again.

If we haven't heard a definitive Shermanesque statement or an endorsement of another candidate then let's keep pushing.
Robert Kennedy didn't announce he was running for the 1968 nomination until March 18th 1968.
I'm just sayin' :spidy:
Jonathan Pollard - September 30, 2007 03:42 AM (GMT)
Maybe the 2 cents campaign will be more effective if they are mailed directly to Al Gore's residence. The address is:
[address deleted by admin.]
Maybe the area in front of his residence would be a good place to hold some Draft Gore rallies.
earthmother - September 30, 2007 04:31 AM (GMT)
No, please don't send things to his residence, and please don't publish his personal information. We don't want to hound the man, and we respect his privacy.
Jonathan Pollard - September 30, 2007 05:42 AM (GMT)
Gore's residential address is a matter of public record, all you need to do is go to www.fundrace.org and type in Gore in the last name field (check off the box to include 2004).

This race will be over the first week in Febraury.
This is not 1968, where there were different rules
Remember how everyone thought Teddy would beat Jimmy Carter, and Teddy, after a pathetic start, got momentum and it was looking good for Teddy?
Well, the rules are the rules, and Teddy lost big time, because the delegates cannot be switched around.
Rules are done these days (almost all by Terry McAuliffe and the clinton'ites to insure Hillary will win.)
This bullcrap about a late entry means a negative has to happen to get a positive
Look at Newt. He thought he could enter late and it isn't happening
Fred entered late, and it backfired bigtime.
The fat lady is starting to sing, and guess what?
It's now Oct.1st Eve...and not one word from Al
How long til we realize the great pumpkin isn't there?
Rules are rules. George Bush won cheating the rules.
Is anyone here saying Al should cheat the rules we protested in 2000?
(Well, at least I protested in 2000, as the streets were mighty empty of Gore fans back
then...nobody seemed to give a spit, back when it could have helped if millions of Gore fans protested, which they didn't.)
Hillary Rodham Clinton Bush 44...is just about reality. (And remember how some here didn't even think she was running, just because she officially did not say.)
Same thing here, but in reverse...
It is beginning to look like Al is just using us to keep his name in the news til the last possible moment.
And btw-if you use Bobby as an example, well, they didn't let him win either, and Gore does not seem to have the courage to do the right thing even if the outcome is etched in Bobby & MLKJr.s stone.

Actually, the Gores have multiple residences, and the public is generally not aware of which is their personal dwelling. For example, the legal voting address used by Al Gore is different from the one you posted (and is in a different town). Even though we have that address, I haven't posted it publicly out of respect for his privacy.
My point is that I believe the Vice President deserves to have his privacy, and I don't think we ought to be hounding him at his residence. That's the fastest way to make him hate us and what we're doing.
It seems more respectful and ethical to operate from a comfortable distance.

Most of us are well aware that this is not 1968. A late entry in this cycle will be in October. Do you really think it's helpful to question Gore's courage and character because he is not doing what you want on your schedule?

I agree with Earthmother. Please don't send things to Gore's personal address. That seems more harassing than encouraging. <_<
Jonathan Pollard - September 30, 2007 05:07 PM (GMT)
In retrospect I agree that Gore should not be hounded if he really does not intend to run.
However, just now an idea occurred to me that could significantly help Gore's campaign to save the earth from the effects of climate change. It would make the idea more acceptable if it appeared that Gore came up with the idea himself, so I think I'll mail my idea to his residence because I don't want to take the risk that any of his office staffers who may read his mail would claim credit for the idea themselves.

If it gets him into the race, yes.
If he don't get into the race, then really, what's the difference?
It's the race or nothing.
Because Hillary won't do what Al wants.

I just got the standard thank you letter. I suppose it was for sending the 2 cents and a note. It's the same one I received after the birthday card mail-in. Nothing new. I do appreciate the acknowledgment though. <_<
At least we know someone is opening the mail.

Earthmother, I simply do not get why you, of all people, aren't getting the standard form letter thank you. Perhaps I'm seen as a constituent since I have a TN address? I just don't know.-- Wonder how many pennies they have? Must be fun to be the mail opener. You must have a mole in the mail room.
Anyway, I just went poking around a couple of the other sites. I think this is from DraftGore.org. It's great!

I got a thank you letter yesterday also.
Upon telling my children about it, my 7 y/o son's eyes got very big and he replied, "You got a letter from the future President?!"
"Yes, dear." I replied. From his mouth to Al's ears.
