Thanks a heap.
IanOC - August 1, 2007 11:35 PM (GMT)
Which would mean he would announce on or around Halloween?
:?:
ReElectAlGore2008 - August 2, 2007 01:37 AM (GMT)
Thought we were down to 30 days from the 45 day announcemnt.
I wrote on the draft gore board in 2003 about Halloween and the story in Charlie Brown's Halloween about Linus waiting for the Great Pumpkin...those that have been on the board back then might remember...

90 days to go?? Ugggh!! Yeah, I'm feeling a little like Linus right now, but Al Gore is so much greater that the Great Pumpkin!! Now if he would just announce.... :dripple:
tkdveg - August 2, 2007 04:51 PM (GMT)
Hey now!!! Where did the 90 day thing come from? I was liking the 30, but could deal with 60 even. 90 is just right out! AAAAUUUGGHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm nervous enough as it is...I just can't stand the suspense for 3 more months! :dripple:
No really - where is "90 days" coming from? I could maybe hold on that long if I have something sudo-concrete to stand on.
Aww, hell, just make up something good for me - just give me some hope!!!! :!:
earthmother - August 3, 2007 01:52 AM (GMT)
The 90 day period comes from the idea that's floating around now that Gore won't do anything before the Nobel Peace Price announcement and also that the absolute latest he gets in, the better. So late October is what's being bandied about.

ReElectAlGore2008 - August 4, 2007 02:12 AM (GMT)
The nation is crumbling and Al Gore is silent
WHY???
IanOC - August 4, 2007 05:31 PM (GMT)
Gore did make it clear in the Time article from May that he doesn't have to play by the ordinary rules of the political game. And he doesn't. If he announces, this whole ridiculous year-long Democratic primary contest between lesser political figures will be over. If he gets the Nobel Peace Prize for his work on the environment, that's a nice segue into a presidential run.
The longer he waits, too, the more credibility it gives the arguments he makes in Assault on Reason.
oleblueraider - August 4, 2007 06:39 PM (GMT)
I don't see any reason for Gore to run in this election?
Nothing has changed that he laments?
It is painfully obivious that he would not get any real co-operation from Congress on issues. It would be a dogfight at Vick's house JUST to pass climate change anything?
His life, his personal life is more rewarding than it has ever been!
Oh sure I wish him to run IF he wishes too, but I don't see the reason that he would wish to? To have the pulpit to actually change the laws on the climate? We had better pray that he truly sees that reason as the only choice, but I think he sees that building an army of opinion that will force that issue is the real way and not going into a presidency that will not garner the historical results he would like?
It is the media, and the 50/50 split that is not workable in todays zeitgeist!
He would be labelled at best, a mediocre presdient in historu after his run and he is well aware of the history of the presidency. This is the nations and the Congree's fault, but it is so?
I hope I am wrong, but just what is his motivation for going up against the Murdoch machine that he hates as well as the verocity of the Repugs who will fight him tooth and nail?
What has changed from his conclusions in Assualt on Reason? Nothing!
Why would he go against his own wisdom in that reagard?
I hope I am wrong, but it isn't the Nobel prize that will tip him over the edge to running, that isn't it. He has to feel that he is truly the only true person to attempt social change against a tide of red state idiots.
Did ya see where more folks than ever have moved to Canada? I wish!
Wayne in WA State - August 5, 2007 05:40 AM (GMT)
Hey Oleblueraider!
I think your points about reasons that Al might not to run are all valid but...
How will it be better for the country and the world if he doesn't run?
How will anyone else who wants to make real positive changes have any more success? Do we just give up and let Murdoch and the Repugs have their way??
I think we all know that Gore is making a big difference whether he runs or not. But if he really is concerned about history and making an impact then how will it be viewed if he now has the chance to run and make a bigger difference and doesn't take that chance?
Give 'em hell Al! :spikey:
ReElectAlGore2008 - August 5, 2007 04:01 PM (GMT)
Why is Al Gore silent???
Another day, another right taken away, and Al Gore is silent.
Not running means you support what is happening.
I am getting tired of making excuses for Al Gore to people on the street.
Nobel Prize? Gee, to 1/2 of the nation, it is meaningless anyhow.(Jimmy Carter has one, and the right wing mocks it constantly).
To the other half, it is only a prize to put on your fabled mantel in the home, the one in the Time Mag. article said his dad kept empty solely waiting for his presidential memorabliilia.
Hillary is up to 45 percent in the 3 way poll, she is just about unstoppable, and the Clinton-Bush dynasty shall continue (without the need to cancel the elections anyhow)...they will find some dupe to take a dive on the other party and insure Hillary shall win like Perot insured Bill would win.
And Al Gore is silent.
Who needs global warming to end society, if society shall come to an end alot quicker by one careless Bush(or Bush family)-made bomb starting a chain reaction?
Al Gore-your silence is DEAFENING...
ENOUGH silence already-speak out!!! While you still have a forum to speak out to.

With the hope that Al will announce by October the latest story is that Al is
going to visit Israel in November? Can Al really be considering running if he
plans on going to Israel in November?

Al has already canceled several overseas trips and even some events at home. We don't know what that means. Not attending the Gore Family Dinner last week was very odd. :?: Don't know what to make of that.
But our information is that he's laying low for August, losing weight (and he has definitely done that), and just letting the others duke it out while he sees how things are looking as we get closer to a normal time for a candidate to be in this race. He's already said he doesn't see the need for a 600-day campaign and that he won't play by their rules. He's going to do this his way if he does it at all. A 300-day campaign is normal. And that's what he'll do if he gets in. He's made that quite clear.
As for Hillary being unstoppable, nah. If Gore got in, that would all change. Not that he'd necessarily overtake her immediately, but he'd be viewed, as he has been all along, as the anti-Hillary, a real and viable alternative to the Clinton machine. Obama isn't viewed that way because he's so inexperienced. And Edwards simply isn't strong enough. Gore has few negatives at this point (I, of course, can't think of any  ), and most people who are going along with Hillary only because she's the best of what's available would switch.
whybaby - August 6, 2007 10:14 PM (GMT)
Karen, I hope you had a fabulous time in NH.
Yeah, I can see him waiting until the last minute to formally announce. Correct me if I'm worng, but I think Nov. 15 is the deadline for getting into the NH primary. If so, that's the very last day for him to get in if he wants to participate in all the primaries. But he'll need a real segue (is that how you spell it?) from "I have no plans" to his entering a formal campaign. That could take weeks. I'm hoping that, come September, he will start to raise his visibility again by talking about the need to have leadership based on national interest (neither party nor special interest), long-term goals for transforming the country, and the need for transparent media coverage. then he can start to say, "I'm thinking about running", or "I'm thinking about what kind of campaign would illuminate issues for the American people", or "I want to lead as President, but I'm not going to be pulled into a toxic mode of campaigning, and I'll lead by campaigning in my own way"...
And then he does it his way: conversations with Bill Moyers, Charlie Rose, and Arianna Huffington, video postings on Current and YouTube, blogging with the bloggers, tapping the college crowd, etc.
earthmother - August 7, 2007 02:07 AM (GMT)
Thanks, Dinah. I had a GREAT time in NH. Having a heck of a time trying to catch up now, though.
I don't think Gore can wait until mid-November, but I do think that if there's any chance he'll get in, we'll start seeing him jockey into position before that. Just as he started changing his message some during The Assault on Reason tour, I believe he'll be doing that again after September.
He'd better!

Al has been very silent and many are taking that silence
that Al is not running in 2008? There is no doubt in my mine
that if Al does not run Hillary will be nominated in 2008.
I have signed the draft gore petitions like everyone else.
I voted for Al in 2000 like so many other people. I live in
New Hampshire and Al would take this state if he only
would run! Right now its just politics as usual. The best person
is Al Gore and we all know it and I think the Republicans know
it too.
Does anyone have any recent news that might give us hope?
I just came across this article on the Huffington Post?

tkdveg - August 21, 2007 06:20 PM (GMT)
It IS hard to bear the silence sometimes. But we all have to be patient - there is still time for him to enter AND win!
He has changed his statements some recently, such as "I may get back into politics; I'm only 59", and none of the candidates is making CC the priority, etc.
And I take his silence as a good sign - he would have said no if he meant no. That's what he did in '04. Until I hear him say it, I have my hope!
earthmother - August 21, 2007 06:39 PM (GMT)
I agree with tkdveg. Gore's absence from the public stage during these weeks can be read either way, but it's definitely possible that he's specifically lying low so as to avoid any possibility of slipping with his message. If no one asks him "the question," then nothing gets out, and he definitely can't afford for anything to get out before he's ready (which would be after Labor Day).
All we can do is wait, watch, and hope. And write letters! Write letters to the editor of your local papers saying why Gore would be the best candidate. Write letters to Gore himself explaining why you want him to run.
Either way, we will have our answer fairly soon . . . :Y:
Wayne in WA State - August 21, 2007 08:06 PM (GMT)
Hey, we're optimists around here :coolwink:
It's getting to be near the end of August and no sign yet of General Sherman.
Keep your champagne cold; either way we'll need it
But uh, personally I think it is a gonna happen :good:

Maybe AL is just taking that well deserved rest. He's had one busy and active summer. I know the waiting is hell, but maybe it will be worth it. We can hope.

Better yet, let's all go to the Ruth Chris steakhouse that is right down the block
and tell them we ain't leavin' til he runs (and get some good steaks there while we are at it)...

COOL!!! I can't believe that of the thousands of times I've passed that billboard, today something told me to write the number down, (as best I could while driving).
Ta-da!! It's (I'm editing this and sending the number by pm, AlGoreFan, in case you're serious I wouldn't want the opposition to rent it first, ha ha).
It's a FABULOUS location!
