Gore in the News - July 21 & 22, 2007
Today's talk . . .http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?...INGKER31MT1.DTLAl Gore needs to work for global change from the insideThe bully pulpit of the presidency is a far different platform than a concert stage or college lecture hall. Unless America and Americans change, and in a measurably significant manner, the world will be less reluctant to accept our call for change.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/james-boyce/...o-_b_57420.htmlAl Gore: How to count to 2,182. . . on January 29, two weeks after Iowa kicks it off, guess who is having their primary? Florida. Al Gore back in Florida? Something tells me he might get a fair amount of press out of that, what do you think? Florida has 185 total delegates at stake. More than the first four states combined. So even if Gore got totally wiped out of the first four (states) -- despite evidence to the contrary in recent NH polling, he would be in the lead delegate wise if he won Florida. Interesting. On February 5th, there are 1,754 delegates at stake. Here are the states and delegate totals where I think Gore does well: California 441, Colorado 71, Georgia 104, Tennessee 85, Idaho 23.
http://washingtontimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/a...NTARY/107230019Al Gore, global citizenDon't get me wrong: Being president of the United States is the ultimate bully pulpit for someone with intense passion for a cause bigger than life itself. And millions of Americans yearn for the kind of honest, intelligent, stable and experienced leadership Mr. Gore could offer the country at a critical crossroad. This might explain why my phone is still ringing off the hook with Americans from all over the country urging me to join the "Draft Gore" movement.
http://www.mydd.com/story/2007/7/24/212016/100Gore, Clark, Kos, and the 2008 ElectionThere are no clues leaking regarding an important pending announcement concerning Al Gore's political plans, though now is the time when I would expect to start seeing them. Instead the few clues scattered like wayward bread crumbs tend to be discouraging. Does this prove that Al Gore won't run in the primaries as a Democratic candidate for President? Obviously it does not. Even if Al Gore's current thinking leads him away from that choice, that could still change in time for him to make a run of it.

The Hill's 'Pundit Blog' conservative radio talk show host, Armstrong Williams, joined the growing chorus on the Right among those who see Gore's candidacy as a serious threat to his party's chances of retaining the White House in 2008 In this video, Armstrong Williams explains why he thinks Al Gore will enter the presidential race this year and how Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) could be a suitable running mate.

http://news.bostonherald.com/politics/view...ticleid=1012868Gore's kid: No way dad's running for the White HouseAccording to ABC News, during a Friday book signing in Washington, D.C., Kristin Gore went farther than her father, saying it just wasn't going to happen. "He's really not going to get in the race," Kristin Gore reportedly said when asked if she had any insight into her father's political plans. "He's really liberated working on things he cares about."
http://www.politicalcortex.com/story/2007/7/22/95355/1772Gore has found his callingIt would appear to me that there are those who are so wrapped up in their "presidential fantasies" that they are missing the greater picture behind what Al Gore is now accomplishing that will have a longterm effect that will last far beyond the next four years. I think it is time to focus on that because when put in context it is truly what great statesmen are made of.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZrPnWoZTjlQDoes Al Gore Hurt Y'alls Feelings?Only one Al Gore question made it to the CNN/YouTube debate broadcast last night from The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina. It was funny and made most of the Democratic candidates laugh.
http://blogs.jsonline.com/cuprisin/archive...an-legends.aspxI love cyb-urban legends. . . the modern equivalent of a chain letter with the absurd claim (which has been circulating for nearly six years) that Ollie North warned us of the dangers of Osama bin Laden way way way back in 1987 under questioning from then Sen. Al Gore. Of course, it's baloney. North was talking about Abu Nidal, not Osama bin Laden. And Gore wasn't even involved in the hearing where North was testifying.

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/23/opinion/23mon4.html?hpJust what the founding fathers feared: An imperial president goes to warThe founders would have been astonished by President Bush's assertion that Congress should simply write him blank checks for war. They gave Congress the power of the purse so it would have leverage to force the president to execute their laws properly. Madison described Congress's control over spending as "the most complete and effectual weapon with which any constitution can arm the immediate representatives of the people, for obtaining a redress of every grievance, and for carrying into effect every just and salutary measure." The framers expected Congress to keep the president on an especially short leash on military matters. The Constitution authorizes Congress to appropriate money for an army, but prohibits appropriations for longer than two years.
http://inel.wordpress.com/2007/07/17/busin.../#comment-13709US Business Roundtable beginning to feel exposed in climate change debate?Business Roundtable is an association of chief executive officers (CEOs) of leading U.S. companies with $4.5 trillion in annual revenues and more than 10 million employees. Member companies comprise nearly a third of the total value of the U.S. stock markets and represent over 40 percent of all corporate income taxes paid. This is what these leaders have to say in their climate change statement today, July 17, 2007. It makes for an interesting read and shows that finally, more important stakeholders are beginning to get involved with the US climate change debate….because they have to. At last count there are seven climate change bills up for debate. The Business Roundtable knows that one of them is going to get through so they've now made their thoughts known.

It talks about big business, the oil & car industries and how they have sort to push off the road the electric car. This is a classic case of government needing to use stronger legislative and tax regimes to influence the direction of technological choice for the betterment of our environment.
