Title: Libelous Article About Gore By UK's Daily Mail

Luke T. - July 19, 2007 10:47 PM (GMT)
Hello, I am a first time poster here. This seems to be the only way I can find to alert the Gore people that the United Kingdom's newspaper The Daily Mail has published a potentially libelous article about Al Gore. It needs to be stopped before it spreads like wildfire in the way that only the internet can do.

See Eco-warrior Al Gore serves up endangered fish at daughter's party

Folks, I am retired military, and a lifetime Republican conservative who has voted for only one Democrat (Lieberman's first election to the Senate) in my life, and I am angry with the hijacking of the conservative cause that has occurred over the past five or six years. Enough is enough.

If we give up our integrity, then we have lost.

I have attempted to post a comment on the Daily Mail twice to correct the article. They have kept my comments from appearing while passing through comments that are variations on Al Gore being a hypocrite. Some other fair-minded people I know have also attempted to post comments pointing out the inaccuracy of the article and their comments have also not been allowed.

Here is what is wrong with the article.

First, the Patagonian toothfish is not on any "endangered species" list anywhere. Not is it "extremely rare". The quotation marks are phrases directly from the article.

The fish is heavily poached, but is still quite legal to import and consume in the United States.

Second, it is American tradition that the father of the groom arrange the wedding rehearsal dinner. It is quite possible Al Gore had no idea what was on the menu because he is the father of the bride, not the groom.

So I hope you guys are able to alert whoever needs to be alerted and get this matter taken care of. I tried and failed. So now I place it in your hands. Good luck.

I wouldn't be too concerned.. granted, I'm not a Briton, nor have I ever read the Daily Mail, but from what I know of it, it's not really anything more than a right-wing catering tabloid that also supported Mosley's British Fascists in the 1930s. So, in terms of credibility, it's a joke. ;)

The article is already making its way around the internet, along with another one written by the Australian publication The Daily Telegraph.

Blog sites are having a field day with it. Take a look.

The Daily Telegraph takes some care to point out that the toothfish is not exactly an endanged species. But the Daily Mail article strikes me as flat-out lies.

But the fish enjoyed by the Gores were not endangered or illegally caught.

Rather, the restaurant later confirmed, they had come from one of the world's few well-managed, sustainable populations of toothfish, and caught and documented in compliance with Marine Stewardship Council regulations.

Outstanding.

This can only help Gore. This silly stuff about fish shows how desperate the GOP really is. Are they afraid that Gore is going to enter the race? If you have to go after someone with this type of trash, they are really hunting for something. But, it keeps his name out there.

Everytime there are lies spread about AL GORE, those spreading them just end up making complete fools out of themselves. Something to think about.

Attacks on Gore backfire.

Yesterday, conservatives across the blogosphere, citing a People magazine article and a poorly-researched Austrailian Daily Telegraph article, smeared Al Gore by claiming that he ate Chilean Sea Bass — a threatened species – at a rehearsal dinner for his daughter’s wedding. Attempting to paint Gore as an environmental hypocrite, BlogsForBush, NewsBusters, and others expressed outrage over the hypocrisy. But, as the Telegraph reports today, “Al Gore’s fish dinner turns out green“:

[T]he fish enjoyed by the Gores were not endangered or illegally caught.

Rather, the restaurant later confirmed, they had come from one of the world’s few well-managed, sustainable populations of toothfish, and caught and documented in compliance with Marine Stewardship Council regulations.

Pitiful, really, just how low they will sink to try to smear Gore.

They're the ones who come out looking bad though.

Hopefully the truth will set them free soon.

Its time people stick together and make this happen.
Any lies out there serve both ways. They will
show how desperate they are and bring more attention
to Gore..

I think people are begnnng to realize the difference
between truth and lies, we've been deciphering them
for 7 years now...
