Read the bad news:
"Powerdown: Options and Actions for a Post-Carbon World" by Richard Heinberg
I had to stop about 80% through it - it is quite overwhelming - stop if you have to and step away to gather back some composer. This will explain alot though - what we have been taught to think of as "the industrial revolution" really should be redefined as the "Oil Revolution of the Carbon era". I'm sure you see have a better understanding of oil.
If you don't hang yourself after reading that then...
Read the best news (not good but there is hope):
"The Oil Depletion Protocol: A Plan to Avert Oil Wars, Terrorism And Economic Collapse"
Also by Heinberg. What I think is really significant about what Heinberg says up front is that this book, the protocol, does not pose blame and create a devisive atmosphere in which this will need to be achieved. Also, this "Protocol" comes from a Dr. Colin Campbell, the British petroleum geologist who founded the Association for the Study of Peak Oil. Website:
