Title: Sent cybervibe to Al Gore

hangingchad - July 12, 2007 02:59 PM (GMT)
Hi, fellow Gore peeps:

Al Gore sent an e-mail entitled "Our Work Begins" to people on his mailing list, regarding the importance of carrying the message of Live Earth forward and putting it into action/behavior.

I decided to write back to give him the feedback that I have really taken Live Earth to heart, and to thank him for all he does on this issue. Aaaaaaand: there was another not-so-little purpose to my feedback: I managed to work in there that the world needs him to run for President of the United States of America.

I was thinking, if everyone would write to him and ask him to run...maybe it would be like the old saying about chicken soup for a cold: "It may not cure it but it couldn't hurt." Maybe he'd realize that we, the people, desperately want him as our candidate? Maybe he'd run just to shut us up? I'll take his candidacy any way I can get it! So here is what I wrote:

"Dear Vice President Gore:

I don't know if you have time to read the feedback of everyone or anyone who writes to you, but I just want you to know how much I, for one, have taken the Live Earth Pledge to heart. I have indeed already e-mailed all my friends and family and asked them to take the pledge as well, but beyond that, I have really taken a long, hard look at MYSELF and asked myself how I can become a greener citizen of planet earth. And even though I've been an environmentalist for many years, I realized that there is so much room for improvement in my own lifestyle. I have already taken steps to change and I plan to continue to work towards becoming as green as possible. This may sound trite, but I truly believe that if each one of us does a few small things, we can really make a difference. You know the old hymn lyrics that say "Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me."? Well, I have adapted them since Live Earth as a prayer for myself to say and take to heart: "Let there be respect for earth, and let it begin with me." Who knows, perhaps if we as a species can internalize and adopt a new/ancient respect for planet earth, we will also become more respectful and nonviolent towards each other as well. Hey, a gal can dream, can't she?

Anyway, I want to thank you so much for your tireless work on this most important of issues. And, of course, I have to take this opportunity also to ask you to please consider getting into the 2008 presidential campaign. I know what you are doing as a private citizen is very creative and urgently important and I applaud you for everything. But the world needs you as President of the United States of America...I mean, you were already elected as same in 2000, but this time we need you to actually take office! This is your time, we need you (oh, I said that already...well, it bears repeating). Okay, enough about that. Thank you again for everything you have done and continue to do regarding global climate change, and I have taken Live Earth very much to heart and will continue to do so for a lifetime.

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

What IF all of us wrote and asked him to consider running, telling him how much we want that? And what IF we further wrote to each and every person we know who might be inclined to support Gore and asked THEM to write to him?

Would we just be shouting into the wind? ...And if so, which way would the wind be blowing? We'll only find out if we try.
