If Attacking Al Gore Was a Movie, It Would be ' Say Anything'
Oddly, if the goal is to slam Al Gore, it often seems as if standards of serious discussion suddenly vanish. Even scientific information -- which you'd think people would be inclined to wield cautiously -- gets treated as if it's putty. That was on full display with this Washington Post op-ed by Slate's Emily Yoffe yesterday. The blogosphere has already done great work taking it apart . . .

Washington Post Op-Ed misrepresented Gore's statements on global warming
". . . it is true that the science does not definitively tell us that global warming increases the frequency of hurricanes -- because yes, it is true there is a multi-decadal cycle, twenty to forty years that profoundly affects the number of hurricanes that come in any single hurricane season. But it is also true that the science is extremely clear now, that warmer oceans make the average hurricane stronger, not only makes the winds stronger, but dramatically increases the moisture from the oceans evaporating into the storm -- thus magnifying its destructive power -- makes the duration, as well as the intensity of the hurricane, stronger."

Tonight's lite read . . .

More Neoconservative Hogwash on Faith
And as to be expected, the neoconservative wing of the religious right is resorting to its favorite weapon: demonization. Just like his mendacious charge about Al Gore's lack of footnotes, Andrew Ferguson is dead wrong about liberal Protestants not believing in God. But respect for religious difference is not a value you will hear neocons talk about, but ruthless lies in pursuit of neoconservatism, is a staple of neocon evangelism: the more they are told, the more they are believed, not only by others, but by neocon evangelists.
