Al Gore, executive producer of Live Earth - the worldwide series of environmental benefit concerts taking place July 7 - was initially unsure which show he would attend.
"I'm going to be wherever I can do the most good and add the most value," the former vice president told Billboard magazine in April, soon after the shows were announced.
Apparently he feels he is most needed in New Jersey. He will attend the Giants Stadium Live Earth concert, choosing the Meadowlands over other Live Earth locales such as London, Rio de Janeiro, Tokyo and Sydney.
Al Gore"Our worldwide control room is in London - I'll be in London, but Mr. Gore will be in New Jersey. He'll be off and on (the stage), very involved," Kevin Wall told The Star-Ledger today. Wall, who has worked on other megabenefits such as Live Aid and Live 8, is co-executive producing the event with Gore, and came up with the idea for it after seeing Gore's global-warming documentary, "An Inconvenient Truth."
Performers at the Giants Stadium show will include The Police, Roger Waters, Bon Jovi, the Dave Matthews Band, Kanye West, Kelly Clarkson, Fall Out Boy and Alicia Keys. Lineups in other cities will include Madonna (London), Metallica (London), Black Eyed Peas (London), Crowded House (Sydney), Angelique Kidjo (Johannesbug), Snoop Dogg (Hamburg) and Chris Cornell (Hamburg).

Al Gore Picks Live Earth New Jersey To Rock Out On July 7th
Al Gore has chosen Live Earth New Jersey as his concert of choice on July 7th, 2007. The politician/movie/rock star made the announcement yesterday after weighing where his impact might most resonate with the audience.
“I’m going to be wherever I can do the most good and add the most value,” the former vice president told Billboard magazine in April, soon after the shows were announced.”
According to Kevin Wall, “Our worldwide control room is in London - I’ll be in London, but Mr. Gore will be in New Jersey. He’ll be off and on (the stage), very involved.”
While Live Earth at Giants Stadium has an incredible lineup, Gore is definitely passing up the “Holy F***!” band collective in London. But wait, could there be a wild and crazy announcement in the works? Could we expect..wait…it might go something like this, “Hello everyone, my name is Al Gore. You might know me from my Oscar-winning film. I would just like to announce, that as of right now,….I just saved a lot of money on my car insurance by switching to Geico.”
Gore for President 2008? Don’t count on it. Using Live Earth as a microphone to announce such intentions would kill any chances he has from the onset. But damn, it sure would be hilarious to see current candidates’ expressions if it did happen. Hit the jump for more.

We know that Al won't make an announcement - one way or the other - on 7/7/07. But it has to be good news for our hopes for him choose to be in the US at Giants Stadium. I think this is the last event that has to be completed before Gore is free to announce that he's willing to make one more great personal sacrifice and run for President.
Thank God Almighty. Hear our pleas and run at last.

In light of the fact that he's going to be there, I'm wondering now if the draft movement should have a higher or lower profile than we'd planned. :?: On the one hand, we don't want to piss him off or step on his message. On the other hand, we want to show him that we want him to run!
I'm thinking, btw, that it's a good sign that he's chosen the U.S. event to appear at. To me it says that he's trying to make a big impact on a certain audience--the voting public of the U.S.! :good:

And I'm sorry, but that picture of him with the guitar looks kind of silly . . . :coolwink:

Well, Tipper plays drums doesn't she? They probably jam all the time. Al's a Nashville Cat. Everybody here plays git-tar.

I agree it's a positive sign that he's going to New Jersey.
I apologize for dumping a stream of consciences; I can't help but to imagine that I was at the event, faced with the same conflict about the message .vs the politics.
But that's what this is all about isn't it? Allowing Al Gore to keep the message separate from the politics for as long as possible. That's why we are in this predicament, and that's why I would be standing there, with my buttons in hand asking people to join me in reserving their support for a Gore candidacy. In order to keep the message separate fomr the politics, Al Gore is forced to stay out of the campaign.
We are not working in spite of that conflict, we are working because of that conflict.
Now, I'm not the type to chant 'Run Al Run' to his face. In fact, If I ever met Al Gore at a book signing, I doubt that I'd say anything other than Thank You. If I saw him in an airport i'd probably just tell my girls who he was, without approaching and asking him to run.
But to my fellow electorate I have something different to say.
I'd tell them that I strongly support Al Gore entering the race, and am seeking the help of those who might agree that the best way to face the problems 7.7.07 brings awareness to is to build a non-toxic political platform that Al Gore would be willing to step on to. That is where I stand. Please join me.
If someone pressed me that I'm diluting the message, i'd explain that It's simply not true. I've heard the message, and this is an important part of how I think we need to answer it.
If someone says that I should support another candidate I'd say that in fact I do. We have some progressive thinkers. But I make no apologies to that I reserve support first for an Al Gore candidacy. Like Al Gore, I reject the campaign rules, not the candidates (In fact I've donated a little to Dodd, DK and Richardson. I'm a sucker for people that say "Cap and Trade". I digress.).
Finally three's nothing wrong with a little pom-pom style excitement at the prospect of a Gore candidacy. I lacked that in 2000. Something I regret to this day. I live in Florida.
Good Luck. I'd just tell people what you think and why you are there. I doubt that that you will be alone.

I agree wholeheartedly, Nasty. I was even talking to someone this morning about how I could see the stadium erupting into chants of "Run, Al, Run!" when he comes out on stage. Why not do that? As long as HE'S not politicizing things, why can't we just show our genuine enthusiasm for him as the best person to deal with the climate crisis as president? We will maintain our low profile in the parking lot, but we will talk to people about Gore as a candidate for the presidency, and what people decide to do on their own in the stadium is their business.

I say we go all out and toot his horn for him! I am also very excited that he's going to the NJ gig (and really kicking myself for not going). I always really expected him to go. But now that it's official, and now that we know he's going to play a very active role there, I think we have every reasons to both feel and show our unbridled enthusiasm.

Karen, I bet you'll feel the vibes all the way to Cranbury!
I have little doubt that, while global warming is a global crisis (duh), his choice of high profile press coverage IN THE ONE U.S. SHOW has a distinct political calculus to it.
And, if you want to feel even more excited about rumors and rumblings across the world, look at my post in the Al Gore and the 2008 Election Talk category from the Taipei Times...

Glad to hear he'll be in New York, right up in the face of Rudy and Hillary. I wish he'd get U2 to play the show, though, and then have Bono endorse him rather than Madonna.
How stupid would it be for U2 for not to play one of the concerts. Maybe they should show up in Antarctica and do New Year's Day. That's one of my favorite videos. Beautiful Day would be great, too.
And I'm waiting for a major U2 political album soon about how war, environmental degradation, and poverty suck and we need world leaders who want to do something about it rather than oil barons.
After U2, I'm really hoping Green Day and R.E.M. and ColdPlay will show up, too.

I pray that the stadium erupts into chanting RUN AL RUN  IMO he should see how much the country wants/needs him. I would think that a staduim chanting for him to run would make a big emotional impact on him.
Somehow in the back of my mind I keep thinking if he knew how much the country wants him as their president it would sway him.
He doesnt need the presidency he has a full meaningful life. We sure do need him though.
Anyone else feeling a little despair when you look at the present crop running? Im really trying to look at a second choice in case Gore decides not to run, its not going well :dripple:
