The Impeachment of George W. Bush

Elizabeth Holtzman

Finally, it has started. People have begun to speak of impeaching President George W. Bush--not in hushed whispers but openly, in newspapers, on the Internet, in ordinary conversations and even in Congress. As a former member of Congress who sat on the House Judiciary Committee during the impeachment proceedings against President Richard Nixon, I believe they are right to do so.

I can still remember the sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach during those proceedings, when it became clear that the President had so systematically abused the powers of the presidency and so threatened the rule of law that he had to be removed from office. As a Democrat who opposed many of President Nixon's policies, I still found voting for his impeachment to be one of the most sobering and unpleasant tasks I ever had to undertake. None of the members of the committee took pleasure in voting for impeachment; after all, Democrat or Republican, Nixon was still our President.

At the time, I hoped that our committee's work would send a strong signal to future Presidents that they had to obey the rule of law. I was wrong.

(There are 6 pages to this article listing the reasons for Impeachment, I have only posted the first. The other 5 are worth reading.)

Well, then it should be a lot easier to vote to impeach Bush because he is NOT OUR president ... !

He is the neo's dictator, and we can feel good about removing a dictator.

Personally, I would feel good removing most of the present administration from office. They are a total embarassment and as anti American as you can get without denouncing the Constitution. Bush HAS said it is "... nothing but a god damned piece of paper". In my opinion he should be executed in public for that statement. He took a solemn vow to preserve and protect it. Not shred it to holy hell.

And that is my 1/2 cent's worth. Don't have 2 cents since January 20, 2000.

AUAUUUAUGHGHAHHGHHHGHHGH, MY EEEYYYYEEEESSS, MY EYES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you really HAVE to put "the-one-who-must-not-be-named" behind the word President?!?!? That's blastphemy, don't ya' know?!

Agreed - the entire administration needs to go,...say to Guantanimo!??! :cop:

That's kind of the flip side of "fixing" our democracy, - the holding accountable of those who helped trash it!!!!

I would certainly have no problem with Mr. Gore's accountability!!

I agree they should all go but if you just impeach George W. Bush then just who do you think would be the next in line? There has never been a double impeachment in history. The only way is to indict them all on war crimes.
