Gore in the News - June 8, 2007
Today's talk . . .http://news.yahoo.com/s/huffpost/20070608/cm_huffpost/051225Draft Al Gore? Draft Al Gore! But what about it, Al? Yes, as with so many things in life, getting there means hard and sometimes absurd work -- the price that must be paid for securing success and power. You acknowledged to Bob Herbert that there is no other position "that even approaches that of president in terms of inherent ability to affect the course of events." But how then can you live with your green and good convictions and not run?
http://www.csmonitor.com/2007/0608/p25s03-usmb.htmlDemocratic strategist: Party has no easy path to White House in '08When he was asked to assess the current field of potential Democratic presidential candidates, Shrum noted that Mr. Gore "is conducting the greatest non campaign campaign we have ever seen in this country. I mean, 3,000 people wait at dawn for a book signing ... and they are chanting 'Run Al, run.' " "He has become a prophet on a global scale," he adds. "No other politician that I know of has done this. And he is having an impact on one of he biggest issues of all time, maybe more impact than some presidents. If he runs and loses, I think that goes away. It is obviously magnified if he wins. So I think it is a very tough decision for him and I don't think it will be made purely on political grounds.... I think the other ground for him is: What else can I do to move the progressive agenda forward?"

His popularity is at an all-time high; he has turned out to be right as far as his party is concerned about the two major issues of the day — the war, where he's been the most articulate critic, and global warming, which is his signature issue that he was in the wilderness on and now everyone thinks it's true."

His lips don't move when he reads... (more proof he's presidential material!) He said, "Awwww..." and looked up at me, and said, "Bless your hear t."

James Douglas a day earlier, heating up the battle to steer public opinion about the legislation. "I'm enthusiastic about fighting through whatever stands in our way," said Gore. "Get that override and put this terrific law into effect."

Gore is also upgrading windows and duct work, installing more energy-efficient light bulbs and creating a rainwater collection system for irrigation and water management.
"Off the Bus" is Huffington Post's new citizen journalism project covering the 2008 campaign. The people at HuffPo want to enlist you in their first big volunteer opportunity. Off the Bus will be a hybrid media project. In addition to featuring contributors' commentary and independent reporting on the '08 race, they will also be organizing contributors like you to get the inside scoop on campaigns. It's the kind of reporting none of us (nor any one journalist) could do alone. That's where you come in. HuffPo is looking for volunteers to gather stories and observations from those events. They will be using your reports as the first chapter in a continuing story about how presidential grassroots campaigning is changing and the effect those changes are having on specific elections -- and American democracy as a whole.
ACTION ITEM: Please
fill out the first part of this report form (questions 1-7) to let them know a little more about you, and so that they can contact you for future stories. AlGore.org has asked HuffPo to include coverage of Al Gore in "Off the Bus".
