Title: Introduction
Description: Better late than never...

Okay, so I started posting like a week ago but I figured I might get around to letting you know who I am.
My name is Chris, and I have pretty much always voted democrat except in the 2000 republican primaries when I helped give Michigan to John McCain- more of a gesture to Bush than anything else. I knew Gore had overwhelming support here and since it would be several years before I could actually give the finger to Bush personally (during his 2004 campaign) it was the best I could muster at the time.
I served six years in the Marines under Daddy Bush and Clinton. Saw needless combat twice (under Bush) and none under Clinton. Funny, I didn't feel much in danger when Billy was in charge... but I digress. <_<
I am currently an auto worker since it pays better than my chosen path (elementary education) despite both fields being eroded by the policies of the Bush administration. I always assumed that having a degree in education was a wise choice in case the auto industry went bust, I never dreamed both would get tanked by the same guy.
I am happily married, with a (soon to be) three year old son, a mistake which will not be repeated. Ever. :o Don't get me wrong, I love him more than my own life, but I remember the days when my house didn't look like an explosion at a Toys R Us.
I am active in the UAW, in my Local I am the C.A.P. Committee Chairman (the Community Action Program Committee is the political arm of the UAW) and at the regional level I have been recognized with one other activist as "Platinum Club" members. I am also a member of the Civil Rights Committee, The Community Service Committee, and the Union Label Committee.
I am a precinct delegate (democrat of course) and was on the Resolutions Committee this past month in Lansing. Being active allows me the opportunity to meet politicians on a regular basis, as such I have met Mr. Gore on a few occaisions and cannot for the life of me figure out how some people consider him boring.
I guess that's about it- if anyone wants to know more (good lord you must have nothing to do!) don't hesitate to ask.

Hey, devildog, thanks for introducing yourself, and we're glad you're here. :good:
I just want to give one piece of advice, and in my usual way (oh, you'll get used to it), it's a sort of a long story.
I'm the mother of a 12-year-old girl and a 19-year-old boy. I remember those days of tearing my hair out, getting no sleep (and we're talking NO sleep), picking up a seemingly endless supply of misplaced Weebles and lost puzzle pieces and scattered blocks, etc. I remember my daughter had a carry-around toy shaped like a house that had Weebles that were different shapes (a round one, square one, triangular one, etc.) to fit down the similarly-shaped chimneys of the house. There were four Weebles, each a different color and shape. Well, the blue Weeble that was shaped like a square vanished. My daughter was very upset. "Where blue Weeble?" We looked in the garbage, under every bed and couch, outside, inside, up, down. We never found the blue Weeble. Until last year when my husband and I were painting my office and we had to pull all the bookcases away from the wall. There, behind a six-foot high row of bookcases that went from wall to wall and almost from floor to ceiling, was the lost blue Weeble. I picked it up and put it aside to show to my daughter when she came home from school. Believe it or not, it was ten years ago that she lost that Weeble, and when I showed it to her, her eyes got huge and she grabbed it from me and smiled. She remembered!
Where am I going with this? Well, it's just to say that they're not two years old forever. Before you know it, as with my son, they're in college, living their own lives away from you. The little boy and little girl are no longer here. I miss them terribly, despite loving who they've grown into.
Little ones grow up way too fast. Try to enjoy them while you have them and remember that they'll be grown before you know it.

That's funny, I see the same memory in my kid. He remembers stuff from a year ago that was so insignificant (to us at least) we have to rack our brains to figure out what he is referencing. When we finally "get it" we feel dumb as a brick that we were stumped by a toddler. Those are the moments when I realize how George W. must feel every morning.
On the plus side he is done potty training, and I was lucky enough to evade the over-promised "golden sprinkle" that most people claim is the christening of fatherhood.

Welcome devildog2033 :good:
I'm a parent also, our 8 year old son Steven and our 10 year old daughter Nicole. Let's just say parenthood is "challenging" :!: Yet it is also rewarding in a way nothing else is...
And, I have to say, I admire your photo. It's our duty to defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic. I take that seriously.
Once again welcome aboard :D

Let me also add my belated welcome and say I look forward to reading what you have to say. So far I've enjoyed it.

Yeah, it's easy to get along with people here. Another place I visit is an uphill battle full of vulgarities and insults, but that's what makes it so fun. I actually found this site by doing a search to back up an argument I had about the right-wing pre-emptive attack on Gore about his alleged energy usage. I had already joined the "Draft Gore" movement at the Michigan Democratic Party Convention in August, but never even heard of this place until last weekend.
Thanks for the warm welcome guys, let's do it to it and kick some environmentally unfriendly ass in '08!
