Coulter's Slur Against Edwards Stirs Outrage
Many Think Pundit May Have Gone Too Far

POSTED: 6:48 am CST March 4, 2007

Democratic presidential contender John Edwards hopes to make some quick campaign cash off a conservative columnist's slur.

Survey: Did Ann Coulter Go Too Far?

Ann Coulter made the comment Friday while speaking to GOP activists attending the annual Conservative Political Action Conference.

"I was going to have a few comments on the other Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, but it turns out you have to go into rehab if you use the word 'faggot,' so I -- so kind of an impasse, can't really talk about Edwards. So I think I'll just conclude here and take your questions," Coulter said.

At first her audience seemed shocked, but then many started to clap.

Democrats were quick to condemn her remark.

Howard Dean, the Democratic National Committee chairman, called on Republican presidential contenders to denounce the "hate-filled" comment.

"Republicans including the Republican presidential candidates who shared the podium with Ann Coulter today should denounce her hateful remarks," said Dean in a press release.

Edwards' campaign sent an e-mail to supporters calling the comment a "shameless display of bigotry." It asked supporters to help raise $100,000 in what it calls "Coulter Cash" to show Edwards can't be intimidated by such attacks.

Edwards' Web site said, "We must show that inflaming prejudice to attack progressive leaders will only backfire."

Bloggers spread the news of the slur far and wide on the Internet. It wasn't long before three of the best-known Republican presidential hopefuls also condemned Coulter.

Sen. John McCain, of Arizona; former mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani, of New York; and Mitt Romney, of Massachusetts spoke against her remarks.

"The comments were wildly inappropriate," McCain's spokesman, Brian Jones, said, according to the New York Times.

The Times reported that Giuliani said, "The comments were completely inappropriate and there should be no place for such name-calling in political debate."

Romney also spoke at the event, where he jokingly told the crowd Coulter was a "moderate." But he did later denounce the remarks.

"It was an offensive remark. Gov. Romney believes all people should be treated with dignity and respect," Kevin Madden, a spokesman for Mr. Romney, told the Times.

During her speech, Coulter said she was likely to support Romney.

Coulter is the same person who called outspoken 9/11 widows "self-obsessed," saying they enjoyed their husbands' deaths.

Coulter wrote in her book, "Godless: The Church of Liberalism," that a group of New Jersey widows whose husbands died in the World Trade Center act "as if the terrorist attacks happened only to them."

She also wrote, "I've never seen people enjoying their husbands' deaths so much."

Ann Coulter is as bad as Rush Limbaugh, both are racist, bigoted pigs. I guess that's no surprise, after all they are conservatives who worship Bush. :bad:

Coulter's remarks were blatantly offensive, but then, pretty much anything Ann Coulter writes or says is a slanderous lie. A part of me hopes she keeps it up. Remarks like hers may make people finally so fed up with "conservatives" that the whole outhouse will tip over. :sport:

Yeah, let's hope.

There is now a bit of a flap because some pedophile has pics of Obama's daughters on his website. It's a website promoting "love of little girls." I was shocked to learn there was such, but then immediately got over that and said "there's websites for every perversion, so of course "

Anyway, Obama is suing.

My point is that the people on Free Republic were generally appalled. Lots of them prefaced their comments with "I don't care for Obama but..." and went on to slam the guy. Funny that several said "I hope the folks at Kos and DU clobber him"

They aren't going to come out and clobber him, lest they be perceived as "Obama-lovers" (read that however you will) but in their hearts they know its wrong. Sort of like keeping your mouth shut and not participating in a lynching, I suppose. Not particularly honorable, but those are the people who may eventually "crack." Once they perceive a big enough groundswell against the coulters, they'll "come out of the closet" and openly turn against the filth. At least we can hope so.

Hey, I just went to Ann Coulter's website (must wash hands soon)

She has a comment about David Bonior, John Edwards Campaign Manager

It's always good to divert Bonior from his priciple pastime which is fronting for Arab terrorists

Ann Coulter on Global Warming and Faggots
"The lady doth protest too much, methinks"

March 19 2007
Counterbias.com
MEL SEESHOLTZ

She’s the Golden Girl, the Blonde Bombshell of the radical right. Review some of Ms. Coulter’s shining moments. She was

fired from MSNBC when she told a disabled Vietnam veteran, “people like you caused us to lose that war.” She was fired from the conservative National Review when she turned in a column offering a final solution to the Muslim problem: “We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity.”

Among her other numerous rants: “I think we ought to nuke North Korea right now just to give the rest of the world a warning. ... They’re a major threat. I just think it would be fun to nuke them and have it be a warning to the rest of the world.”

Ms. Coulter thinks it would be “fun” to launch a preemptive nuclear attack.

Not surprisingly, her book Treason defended and praised Joseph McCarthy, one of the darkest figures in American history. Arnold Beichman, a conservative from the Hoover Institution, reviewed Treason for the conservative Washington Times. His assessment: “[I] tried to read Miss Coulter’s book and failed. Life is too short to read pages and pages of rant.”

One of the issues at hand is related to another of Coulter’s idiotic statement, “I take the Biblical idea. God gave us the earth. We have dominion over the plants, the animals, the trees. God says, ‘Earth is yours. Take it. Rape it. It’s yours.’”

How strange – not to mention truly sick and demented – that a woman would approve of and encourage rape, especially of Mother Earth.

Coulter expanded on her “let’s rape Mother Earth” ideology in a recent article – “Let them eat tofu!” – that appeared in a most appropriate venue, WorldNetDaily, otherwise known as WingNutDaily which, according to its founder, editor and CEO, was conceived as “‘an Internet newspaper’ committed to the highest ideals of American journalism” [link added].

In her diatribe Coulter wrote that “There are more reputable scientists defending astrology than defending ‘global warming’…”

No doubt the pixie was trying to be funny in her usual demented way. But maybe not. So please, Ms. Coulter, would you be so kind as to produce a list of “reputable scientists defending astrology” longer than the list of reputable scientists worldwide who are defending global warming? Perhaps you can begin by surveying the 50,000 international scientists involved in the polar project:

More than 50,000 researchers hope to find an answer during a massive study of how global warming and other phenomena are changing the coldest parts of the Earth -- and what that means for the rest of it.

Scientists formally kicked off the International Polar Year on Thursday, the biggest such project in 50 years. It is unifying researchers from 63 nations in 228 studies to monitor the health of the polar regions, using icebreakers, satellites and submarines.

But Coulter was only getting warmed up:

“Global warming” is the left’s pagan rage against mankind. … To say we need to reduce our energy consumption is like saying we need to reduce our oxygen consumption. Liberals have always had a thing about eliminating humans. Stalin wanted to eliminate the kulaks and Ukrainians, vegetarian atheist Adolf Hitler wanted to eliminate the Jews …

Aside from the cutesy rhetoric and glaring stupidity – Stalin and Hitler as “liberals” – wasn’t it Ms. Coulter who thought it would be “fun” to nuke non-Christian countries? No doubt she delights in the fact that, according to the Pentagon,

Climate change over the next 20 years could result in a global catastrophe costing millions of lives in wars and natural disasters.

A secret report, suppressed by US defense chiefs and obtained by The Observer, warns that major European cities will be sunk beneath rising seas as Britain is plunged into a ‘Siberian’ climate by 2020. Nuclear conflict, mega-droughts, famine and widespread rioting will erupt across the world.

The document predicts that abrupt climate change could bring the planet to the edge of anarchy as countries develop a nuclear threat to defend and secure dwindling food, water and energy supplies. …

‘Disruption and conflict will be endemic features of life,’ concludes the Pentagon analysis. ‘Once again, warfare would define human life.’ … [italics added]

Coulter’s “Let them eat tofu!” article, like so much of what she says and writes, is exceeding short on substance in relation to the issues addressed and far too long on childish sniping and character assassinations of those with whom she disagrees politically. Witness her latest:

Finishing up a presentation on Friday [February 2, 2007] at the Conservative Political Action Convention, right-wing pundit Ann Coulter referred to Democratic Party presidential nominee John Edwards as a “faggot.”

“I was going to have a few comments about the other Democratic nominee, John Edwards, but it turns out that you have to go into rehab if you use the word ‘faggot,’” she said to a crowd, eliciting uncomfortable groans, then cheers and applause. “So I’m kind of at an impasse. Can’t really talk about Edwards, so I’ll just conclude here and take your questions. Thank you.”

The convention participants included several 2008 Republican presidential hopefuls – former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney, former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani, former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, Colorado representative Tom Tancredo, and Kansas senator Sam Brownback – as well as Vice President Dick Cheney who, of course, has a lesbian daughter.

Some GOP presidential wannabes – John McCain, Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney – quickly denounced Coulter’s remarks. How telling that Brownback, Huckabee, Tancredo and Cheney did not.

Actually, Coulter should be thanked for her stupid statements and hateful remarks. Such odious comments do nothing but hurt the radical right. They make it clear to everyone what self-centered, hate-mongering bigots they really are.

As Joe Solmonese, president of the Human Rights Campaign, said in commenting on Coulter’s remarks, “It is clear that some in the Republican Party plan to run in 2008 the same way they did in 2004, by using discrimination to divide the country and rally their base. … But, 2008 is not 2004, and this time the politics of fear and smear will not work. The American people are tired of those who would rather divide than unite.”

Coulter’s ad hominem attacks also point out that she and her ilk have no ideas, nothing new to say. All they can do is make fun of others:

“What’s Al Gore up to these days?” Coulter rhetorically asked, before answering, “Four hundred pounds.”

Coulter asked, “Did Al Gore actually swallow Michael Moore?”

“Obama is half-white and half-black,” Coulter said, before comparing the Illinois senator to former President Bill Clinton. “Clinton was half-white, half-trash.”

But perhaps there’s something else – something psychologically telling – in Ann Coulter’s diverting fondness for calling people “fags” (and, no doubt, “dykes”):

This wouldn’t mark the first time that Coulter has “gay-baited” a Democrat. Coulter used the “other f-word” in a joking reference to Gore in a television interview last June, and on various occasions has claimed that Bill Clinton could be a “latent homosexual.”

“I think that sort of rampant promiscuity does show some level of latent homosexuality,” Coulter said of Clinton on The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch on CNBC. (Crooks and Liars has video of the CNBC comments.)

Given that Ms. Coulter probably deems Shakespeare a liberal faggot, she may never have bothered to read him. But one of the bard’s most famous lines could easily be applied to Ann Coulter, with a latent wink and a nod: “The lady doth protest too much, methinks” (Hamlet, III, ii, 239).

I wish this twisted and useless conservative bitch would just go away and shut her hole. :bad:

If she was smart and cared about Republicans she would shut up for awhile. Evidently she cares more about making publicity for herself.

Every time she opens her hole another conservative falls in!

Coulter already called both Bill Clinton and Al Gore faggots a while ago, so Edwards should consider himself to be in good company.

On another note, there's apparently a YouTube ad going around showing Edwards primping in preparation for an interview with the song "I Feel Pretty" playing in the background.

This just occured to me- what if she is a hardcore democrat, taking one for the team?

Maybe her writings, rantings, and pretty much every move is a purposeful caricature of how she sees the GOP and she's the only one in on the joke? What if she secretly has devoted her life to helping liberals?

Did anyone ever catch the episode of "Da Ali G Show" on HBO where Sacha Baron Cohen (as Borat) goes door to door with a republican candidate running for local office? Hilarious. And the guy thought he was supporting him the whole time. Some of Borat's quips (gramatical errors on purpose as I am trying to go verbatim, read using eastern european accent):

"If you vote for my friend, you will have many good year. If you do not vote for him, (snapping a pencil in half) he will crush you!"

(to woman answering door) "Can I speak to man of house?"
(woman responds) "There is no man, this is my house."
(Borat) "You cannot own house can you?"
(woman) "Yes, this is my home."
(Borat) "No, I need to speak someone who can vote!"
(woman) "That would be me."
(Borat) "But woman brain small, like squirrel- woman cannot vote!"

(at another house) "If you do not vote for him, he will TAKE power!"

And it went on and on. I doubt that guy got any votes from that neighborhood.

What better way to alienate people and expose the bigoted viewpoint that most republicans seem to have than to be "Uber-GOP Lady"? I mean, for crying oput loud she has said that women shouldn't have the right to vote? Who really thinks this way?

Either she's a nut, or the most ingenious lefty out there. Either way, whenever she runs her mouth it makes most people cringe away from the right- so I say keep it up.
