Boy, it sure is impressive when you see it all laid out like that.
And we wonder why he didn't win in 2000.
It's enough to make a grown person cry. :(

Excuse me; I don't know where to post this, but it does concern the Clinton-Gore record.
I always stop to watch the first sketch on Saturday Night Live because it's almost always a great political sketch. Tonight it was very good and very funny, depicting George Bush trying to talk about the Tsunami crisis at a press conference, flanked by a mortified George Bush Sr. who mostly sighed, and a smirking Bill Clinton who kept breaking in to augment W's faulty words with much better remarks.
They had the guy playing Clinton say, "I put troops on the ground in Somalia because it was necessary." As is well known to anyone who was following the news back then, it was George Bush Sr. who sent troops into Somalia. Clinton managed to get them out. I have heard Republicans trying to float this lie many times before. Every now and then it resurfaces. I thought it had finally been laid to rest, and here it is again!
I wonder, should we do anything when we hear things like this? Plenty of people are too young to have been following the news back then, and millions of them at this moment now believe that it was the Clinton-Gore administration that sent troops into Somalia. After all, Saturday Night Live just said so. But I don't feel qualified to decide how to handle political infighting problems. I can't even win at Monopoly. I just thought I'd better bring it up.

Excellent point, RM. BTW, that guy playing Clinton on SNL was Darryl Hammond, who does one of the best impressions of Clinton I've ever seen. Anyway, it was a really funny sketch, but as you point out, they got their facts wrong. Maybe they were thinking of Kosovo? No matter, it was not Clinton/Gore who sent troops into Somalia in 1992 (it was Bush 41, as you pointed out), but it was Clinton/Gore who brought them home in 1993 by turning control of that operation back over to the U.N. It certainly wouldn't hurt to write to SNL and show them where they got their facts wrong. But maybe it would be better if it came more officially from this site? Maybe Chris wouldn't mind sending something on behalf of the GSC. But short of that, certainly a bunch of us could send them letters. I'd say we could ask for a public correction of the statement, but you don't imagine they'd goof on that, do you? Let's see what anyone else thinks about this. Opinions?

I suppose this topic more accurately belongs under our Gore Media Watch thread, so I'm going to bump it over there.
Uh, er, except that I don't seem to be able to do that with the original post now. For future reference, RM, under General Gore Talk, there's a thread called Gore Media Watch where we post things like this and people can then refute it. Thanks for alerting us to this one.
