Title: Article "Al Gore’s Personal Energy Use..."
Description: letter to THAT editor...

Dear Editor…

I am curious for a few facts pertaining to the article you recently wrote regarding the energy usage & consumption in regards to Al Gore’s Mansion. **for those that are in the CC portion of my email – please read below my signature, this will also include the link to the original article I am referring to.**

As I can understand the hypocritical angle of his speeches vs. his own energy consumption- and I am not taking “his” side- or any side for that matter. Actually, I am taking the side of trying to do MY best to get a small grip on what I can do to reverse the effects to global warming that I myself have created. It’s a daunting task, but a recent friend of mine suggested just taking it one step at a time, eventually we will all have taken remarkable steps in the right direction to solve this pending problem.

Back to the topic at hand…

If we were to truly investigate his (Al Gore’s) energy usage and compare it to what could be or others on that scale I wonder what the results would be. I have read that you have amounts and kilowatt-hours- but how could NES report that to you? Do all Electric companies provide this information about all households? I’d be really curious to know about a few houses on my street- then of course we can start the finger pointing as far as usage statistics go. Are you in for reporting your usage? Sorry… that isn’t the point I know.

For example- Gore’s mansion compared to a “normal” person’s (by normal I mean non celebrity type- just rich) mansion- would we find a higher energy consumption?

Are his EC (Energy Consumption) numbers higher than average in this category?

Or are they just higher than the average American.

And by “average American household” how many bed/bath’s is that?

How big is the kitchen? Size of refrigerator? How many clothes washers and dryers and how often used? Heating system? Cooling system? How many family members does this “house” hold? How much more living space does he have to maintain compared to the “average American house?” I hate to disagree… but your article almost seems to be comparing apples to oranges isn’t it? I consider myself an “Average American Family” but only have 3 members and 1600 square foot home to run and operate. You can’t really compare that to Al Gore’s Mansion- can you? And if so – how?

Perhaps too this is his business? In comparing his square footage mansion to a business with the same square footage could we compare those energy usage figures? I do somehow believe just the cost alone reflects some of the energy bills I have viewed in some of the companies that I have worked for and those are on limited time schedules (example 9-5 operating hours). Would I be correct in assuming it being his home this would extend operating hours?

Just playing devil’s advocate… and he is up for The Nobel Peace Prize on bringing the world to our attention, but it would be also nice to see him leading by example. I’d like to know what he has done to cut his energy usage. Does he own & operate a high MPG vehicle? Does he commute as much as he can? (Mind you his celebrity status might prohibit most common forms of commute for him) Did he recently install energy efficient light bulbs like I did?

I look forward to learning only more!

Sincerely,
Shannon

The email link you reference to has been discredited and a proven lier with strong conservative intentions. They have clogged this site and personally I'm sick of seeing their link re-posted. The article is false.

REALLY?
that is great!!!

Sorry about the re-posting of the link. I am new (can tell by the "newbie" stamp under my name) and haven't had the chance to read every single post/topic on this large forum. However I can understand why you would be sick of seeing false information. How tireing... but to take the time to reply to mine- I thank you!!

Can you advice - direct me to where I can disprove that article? I sent out a pretty big email regarding that and I'd like to let more people know the "true" story.

This apparently was on the radio this morning in my neck of the woods and I'd like the radio station to do a follow up if in fact it isn't true.

Thanks a bunch for your help, guidance & direction!

Ciara, if you truly intend to help Al Gore (and we hope that you do), then arm yourself with the facts, which I've printed below. Also, note that the so-called objective, non-partisan policy group in Tennessee turns out to be nothing more than a 27-year-old hack with an ax to grind putting out information as if he's a real think tank. Please join us in guarding against this kind of smear campaign. This is just the beginning.

Gore Responds To Drudge’s Latest Hysterics

The right-wing is angry that Al Gore has won so much public attention and goodwill for his work on global warming. Determined to smear his efforts, Drudge writes in a screaming headline:

Responding to Drudge’s attack, Vice President Gore’s office told ThinkProgress:

1) Gore’s family has taken numerous steps to reduce the carbon footprint of their private residence, including signing up for 100 percent green power through Green Power Switch, installing solar panels, and using compact fluorescent bulbs and other energy saving technology.

2) Gore has had a consistent position of purchasing carbon offsets to offset the family’s carbon footprint — a concept the right-wing fails to understand. Gore’s office explains:

What Mr. Gore has asked is that every family calculate their carbon footprint and try to reduce it as much as possible. Once they have done so, he then advocates that they purchase offsets, as the Gore’s do, to bring their footprint down to zero.

It’s the latest in a series of desperate attacks by Drudge to paint Gore as a hypocrite. Some other examples:

These are the lengths that climate skeptics must go to suppress action on global warming. There is no meaningful debate within the scientific community, so the right-wing busies itself with talk about how much electricity Al Gore’s house uses — and even then they distort the truth.

EarthMother - THANK YOU!!!!!

it saddens me to think that someone takes the time to smear when we can use that precious energy to wipe clean. Oh well... takes the bad to see the good right?

thanks again for more information and happily I will pass it on to my fellow friends and keep doing what I can (1. not point fingers - that waists time & energy) to reduce my carbon foot print!

Happy living for my children, and their children and so on...

Ciara

No need to apologize for the re-posting of the link. You had a legitimate question that you felt needed answering.

I may have have jumped too quick because it was only last night that we inundated with the same article and link word for word by the same person.

As EM said, if you intend to help we welcome you and do so with open arms. But arm yourself with the truth. She's wise and worth listening to.
