Title: Hard Changes
Description: Northern School Vacation time

I'm new to this site, and unsure if the idea has ever been presented, or if I even have the right area to post it,but I think the possibility of this change is doable.

CHANGE THE NORTHERN STATES SCHOOL YEAR. have Dec.-Jan.-Feb. off and save a tremendous amount of gas heating schools. Most schools have to close for one reason or another due to weather conditions anyway. It would not only save energy, it would cut costs of school budgets, reduce insurance costs for busses, more kids could take bikes to school in warmer weather, or walk. Parents have to drive children in deep-freeze temps. Children would be able to withstand waiting for the bus in the a.m. better. Busses wouldn't be on icy roads. They wouldn't have to be warmed up prior to driving. All these states, that's alot of busses and ALOT of gas wasted.

It is certainly going to raise some anger, but at the cost of destroying our environment, I think it is well worth,at the very least, an attempt to consider it.
It may even cut down on crime rates. Kids have to be home earlier for school in warmer temps.

I believe the original school year with summer off was intended for children to help with farm chores. Our economy and the survival for country towns was based on crops and family helping. Now it is based more on service and the manuf. of cars. it is not imperitive children be home to help with farm chores. The majority anyway.

It will tear the family vacation time from summer to winter, but there are plenty of places and things to do in southern states. While we're all down there on vacation, southern school will be in session, tourist attractions won't be overcrowed.
I THINK IT SHOULD BE AT LEAST CONSIDERED. Dawn
