Title: What to Say When...
Description: Finding members

Julia - February 2, 2007 02:20 PM (GMT)
As I've started trying to find members for my Draft Gore Meetup Group, the first response I get is "but I thought he isn't going to run". Has someone come up with the best answer to that?

You betcha. :D

Gore has repeatedly said that, while he has no plans to run, he hasn't ruled it out. The fact that he has refused to give that Sherman statement indicates that he's holding the door open. The only reason NOT to have said by this time that he won't be running (as he did in 2002) is that he's still considering running. In addition, those closest to him, such as his wife Tipper, have given their full public support to the idea of him running. Also, we have information that he's been quietly talking to presidential politicos and discussing the idea of running in closed groups. In addition, some of the buzz about him possibly running has been planted by his own people.

In a nutshell, he has refused to rule it out.

A shorter answer is "that's why it is a DRAFT Gore group - we want to change that!"

Yeah, well leave it to me to give a looooooooooooong answer. :P

But I wanted to address the idea that people think he's really not going to run, regardless of a draft effort. It's simply not true, contrary to what many people believe, that he's ruled it out. The opposite is true, and we very much believe (and have reason to believe) that he's getting closer to jumping in by the day.

Just wanted to be sure Julia (and others) had ways to counter these statements that would make people think we weren't wasting our time with a draft effort.

Thanks Karen, that helps alot and it wasn't too verbose. If you want verbose, listen to my husband (snicker). I will use what you said, but I wish we had some really juicy secret stuff to hand out, as that's always eaten up with relish. I'm rescheduling my first meetup to the 28th, but I think its going to be good, as I have queued up some good clips to show the real Gore, not stiff, not boring, and very Presidential, especially when comparing to anyone out there, anywhere. Talk to you soon, Karen. Make sure and take a break once in a while. Computers can cross the eyes, and fry the brains.

Instead of such wordy response say

America is dying.
The democracy we all loved our whole lives has come to and end, and even though Al Gore is NOT running, he is the only one who can save it, so we are hoping against hope that Al sees the folly of not running, if he really wants this
world to continue for our grandchildren's grandchildren, and there is no one else
who at this moment in time, can save the universe and our beloved USA.

Tell them we are not saying Al Gore is God or that Al Gore is the best person alive.

Only that Al Gore for all intents and purposes is the only viable alternative to the same old same old winning in 2008, and bringing with that no change in anything.

That is why we along with many other thousands, tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, millions and millions of people want to let Al Gore know the support is here.
(Even though we know he knows, and all, people always like to hear they are wanted.)

The choice will be his.

However, if he does not run, in the future, we will not have the choice to sit here
protesting. It will be gone.

That is why whether on line, to friends, on the the street corner, at work, at meet ups, whereever, we keep telling people to open their ears and eyes and see how
at this juncture, Al Gore is the only way out of the Hell we are in.

Something easy like that.

He is to me and I'm not going to hide the way I feel. There is no other human alive who can compare to AL GORE. No matter how much he's been through, how much abuse he's taken over the years, he is still a man of integrity and pure greatness, always willing to help people and yes he stands above the rest in every way. No one comes close. We need the man as our president. I can't say it enough.
