He's going to form an exploratory committee for a presidential run in 2008.

He said he would announce more about his plans in his home state of Illinois on Feb. 10.....What do yall think? Happy? Upset? Im curious what others think of him. I like him, I think he is very smart, but Id rather see gore.

His inexperience will begin to show, and I personally do not think that he is ready to be president. With our foreign policies in such a sad shape, we have to have a leader that can deal with problems of which we have today. He might go in as VP, but I feel that he needs to wait until '16. Hillary in my opinion can not be elected because most of the men that I know will not vote for a woman. Maybe, in a few years, that will change. but the time is not right for her. I think that the country will compare her with Condi, and think that if we had a man for Sec. of State things may be in better shape. The country was with Albright because of her way of dealing with people. She made progress where she went. She could deal with people, but Condi goes in with a close mind and with the Bush attitude.
I know that the country needs Gore, but can we make him see that he must run.

Welcome, goregirlhopeful08. I heard the very same thing about Obama this morning. I feel Obama will make a damn good president someday, but 2008 is not the right time for him. He's young and doesn't have enough experience yet, give him a few more years. And although I hate to keep saying this, but I still don't think this country is quite ready for an African-American president. Still too much racism especially in the South and other conservative states like Idaho, Texas, and Wyoming. Just can't see those states changing anytime soon. It's fine with me, to have an African-American or woman president, in fact I would love to see it happen.
But after AL GORE serves his rightful and well deserved eight years. :good:

I agree with all of you. You don't think we're biased, do you? :P
But seriously, I can't imagine Obama doing the exploratory committee thing and then announcing he's not running. It's kind of the kiss of death for future runs, IMO. So I think we have to assume he's in.
I like him. I really do. And I think many people will be jumping on his bandwagon. Whether or not it begins to wear thing remains to be seen. Sometimes things like this catch fire. I think people see him as a breath of fresh air. I also think, if I may risk saying something politically incorrect here, that he may appeal to many white liberals' "sense of guilt." Well, maybe not guilt, but I think you know what I mean. There's something satisfying to all of us, I think, in whole-heartedly supporting an African-American. It convinces us that we're not bigots, and it assuages our atavistic sense of guilt for slavery. We like to see blacks get ahead. It makes us feel better on some level.
In any case, Obama is definitely someone to watch out for. I wish he'd waited until 2016 (assuming a Dem. gets in in '08). I wouldn't mind seeing him as veep.
But he's definitely a serious contender.

I have to agree with Patsy on the Hilary thing. I dont know one man who will vote for her. I really think men are intimdated by a woman in power. No, not all men, but I know my husband is.
True Story: A few months ago a group of older people were in Red Lobster at the table near us. Im intersted in politics and work in it so when their conversation turned to Gore or Clinton in 08, I listened it a bit. The women in the group said they loved hilary and every woman in america would vote for her, while the men said they wouldnt even think about voting for her. The conversation soon turned to my husband and I when they asked what we thought. I said I wouldnt vote for Hilary Clinton if Gore ran,,there was no chance. My husband said he wouldnt vor for Hilary if she was the only person on the democratic ticket. When asked why, he said she is just not very likeable. The older women were diappointed and the men said "see, not everyone would vote for her, espically men"
I also agree that Obama would be great later, but for now he would be better as a VP canidate! Maybe under a Certain man we all know and love! :good:
