Don't forget Hillary. The NY Papers today seem to say she is about to form her exploratory committee and its a defniite

earthmother - December 5, 2006 03:45 AM (GMT)
Not just the NY papers. All the national media have confirmed that she has Denny Farrell's blessing and the NY State Dem. Party behinid her. It sounds very much as if she's made up her mind, even though they say that's not the case. This isn't an exploratory committee she's formed. She's asking for support.

Looks like Dennis Kucinich will make another run for president in '08 and may make an announcement later today.

earthmother - December 12, 2006 04:30 PM (GMT)
You really have to wonder what someone like Kucinich is thinking.

Maybe he's thinking he's going to steal the thunder from Ralph Nader :P

Why is what I would like to know. Nothing against Kucinich, but he's just going to get in the way, and he must know he can't win.

Patsy - December 12, 2006 09:11 PM (GMT)
Kucinich wants the attention. You do not even hear of him except during the presidential races.

earthmother - December 12, 2006 09:19 PM (GMT)
I don't think Kucinich is much of a threat, and I don't think he's going to get in the way. He will drop out long before it matters.

There are three things about Kucinich i have to admit which are positives he's a progressive,he's anti war and he's not a DLC'er.

earthmother - December 14, 2006 03:29 AM (GMT)
It's not that I don't like Kucinich. It's just that he hasn't got a chance.

Last i checked, Al Gore is a "DLC'er."

Nope. He's too left for my tastes.

Also, Vilsack officially announced.

Although not official, Biden responded to a question on a talk or news show a while back that he would be running. Don't know his current status and don't care! :?:

Kucinich could never, ever, become president. No offense intended, but he's a mouse. Picture him standing next to someone like a Reagan, or democrats like BILL Clinton, or Al, or JFK - or Obama - in a primary debate.

For better or worse, physical stature is one of the qualities the People use in their choice of a candiate.

Despite some of his positions, Kucinich can never win a national election - or primary. He's a mouse! :Y:

I totally agree with your assessment of Kucinich, Thom. We've been having a running debate at AG.org about image and how it shouldn't sell a candidate (in relation to Obama). But really. Everyone knows that image is mostly what sells a candidate. Most people don't have any idea where the candidate they prefer actually stands on most issues. That's why it's important for Al to trim down if he's going to run. He knows it, too, which is, I believe, why he's lost quite a bit of weight lately.

Bayh drops out 12/15.

That leaves Edwards/Obama/Kerry as the other serious candidates and the lower tier with Vilsack/Biden/Richardson, etc. (all not seriously in the race)...

and the wild card- Al.

Bayh dropped out? Wow.

I feel very encouraged about Al after talking to Steve Robinson last night. We're going to get this baby off the ground, and Steve feels relatively certain that Gore will go for it if there's enough of a groundswell of support.

So that's our job. We begin this weekend. I hope you'll all be involved.

John Edwards Will Announce An '08 Run

WASHINGTON, Dec. 16, 2006

(CBS/AP) Former Democratic vice presidential nominee John Edwards intends to enter the 2008 race for the White House, two Democratic officials said Saturday.

Edwards, who represented North Carolina in the Senate for six years, plans to make the campaign announcement late this month from the New Orleans neighborhood hit hardest by Hurricane Katrina last year and slow to recover from the storm.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they did not want to pre-empt Edwards' announcement.

As Edwards enters the crowded field, the Lower Ninth Ward provides a stark backdrop to highlight his signature issue — that economic inequality means that the country is divided into "two Americas."

Edwards also plans to travel from New Orleans through the four early presidential nominating states — Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire and South Carolina.

Among Democrats, Sens. Hillary Clinton of New York and Barack Obama of Illinois are drawing the most attention almost two years before the actual vote.

On Friday night, another prominent Democrat, Senator Evan Bayh of Indiana, announced that he would not make a run for the White House in 2008.

Edwards, however, is in a strong position as the leading candidate in Iowa. He was a top fundraiser in the race for the nomination in 2004 before he became Democratic Sen. John Kerry's running mate.

Since the Democrats' loss to President Bush, Edwards has worked to build support for a repeat presidential bid.

Edwards' spokesman, David Ginsberg, would not confirm or deny that Edwards planned to announce he would run in 2008.

Ginsberg said Edwards would make an announcement about his future when he is ready.

A little part of me wonders what kind of a groundswell Al would need now, and why?

He'e been getting SRO crowds and standing ovations at every single stop in the world. Isn't that enough of a groundswell?

The fact that every reporter and talk show host he has encountered has asked the question; isn't that enough of a groundswell?

He must know what we all think.

My point is that I have been saying for several years now that he has already decided to go for it now - I believe. In 2004, he stepped aside to give people a chance to see if there was someone who could do better than he did in 2000; there wasn't. So now he can legitimately say, "I gave someone else a chance and look what came of it".

And now, I believe he is just waiting for the other candidates to make themselves known and for the most serious contenders to announce so he can say, "In 2004, I gave someone else a chance, and now, there is still no one else out there who is addressing the most serious issues we face." That would leave it wide open for him to take charge.

In 2000, 61 million and a half American citizens said they wanted Al Gore to be their president. Wasn't THAT enough of a groundswell?

61 1/2 million Americans voted for the last legitimately elected president we had. No other candidate has any right to run until history is corrected.

If you're thinking about a Gore/Edwards ticket from what I heard Edwards has said no thanks please.

That pretty much leaves Gore/Richardson, Gore/Kerry, possibly Gore/Obama ( I doubt it) or maybe Gore/Vilsack or a couple other long-shot possibilities.
