so that people who don't know me, curse me
and spit out "American" as epithet
as epitaph
and level an unreasoning fanaticism in response to yours

oh world, I am sorry
for this man who thinks that to discuss war is to discuss peace
who wishes to bring you freedom
while stealing our own
who respects the sanctity of life
unless you are a spotted owl, a murderer
or a desert dwelling sovereign people
He didn't ask me to agree to his personal vendetta

when the son of your religion says
