Title: Recount holding in Virginia!
Description: earthmother right, looks like we got it.

The recount is on in Virginia and things haven't changed yet. So far Webb is still 7000 vote ahead and officials don't expect things to change and expect it to go to Webb. It is so obivious it maynot even be held or finished. We all know Allen is too big an ass to admit it until the end but we can as good as claim we have full control of both House and Senate.

Well good ole George W.Bush it looks like you were not talking to God but the devil inside your head. By the way there are some bars here in Texas that open at 7:00 AM and in Vegas they never close. From what I hear other than trying to punch out your Father people seemed to like you better drunk. And history, well there are those of us who will do our best to see that history paints you for the sleaze that killed hundreds of thousands in a needless war.

I believe this may not be completely accurate. I think what is occurring is the normal canvassing done by poll workers and managers after a close election. As far as I know the recount cannot occur by Virginia commonwealth law until the results are certified, which I think is November 27th. (please forgive me if the dates are wrong, talking off the top of my head now) I believe a recount request must be made within 10 days of the certification, and that the recount has up to 15 days after that.

If Allen requests a recount, I don't think it can start until December 11th, and results would be due in December 26th.

Could be wrong on this, have been many times before, but I think all thats going on now is a canvassing excercise to make sure process and procedures were followed correctly.

Allen is giving a live news conference on CNN at 3:00pm ET. Let's see what he has to say. You could well be right but so far from what they have looked at there has been no changes in the tally and since there is no paper trail it would only be a recalculation of the computer tally.

I don't know the exact dates but I believe your either right on those dates or else your very close. Most likely right.

Actually, I hope they do go for a recount, although I think they won't. If they do, it would take some of the sting out of the Rep. charge of Gore fighting for recounts in Florida. The shoe's on the other foot now. They know what it feels like (and this is just a lousy congressional race, not the POTUS).

From everything I've heard, we can be confident Webb's lead would hold in a recount. Unlike Florida in 2000, where there were questions about how to count hanging and dimpled chads, etc., all they can do is retally the electronic votes as they were registered by the machines. There's no guesswork, no judgment calls, not even a paper trail to verify the results.

One thing I hope is that this will finally make the Reps. see the need for a paper back-up of electronic votes. It just irks me that it took this for them to see how wrong they've been on this subject. <_<

All that can be done is add up the totals from all the machines. So assuming they were tallied correctly and should of been, there won't be a change. I mean the machine will never change the counts. So whats the point ? they just need to double check the total
and have Va vote get certified and lets move on.

Now earthman, we can move on. But they have to work more than two days a week.

;)
