Monday, October 23rd, along with 4,500 of my closest friends at Key Arena I gave Al Gore my resume!
It went like this: he was in town to give his presentation on climate change. My friend Paddy just happened to be seated 2 seats in front of me for support & the microphone just happened to be just to my left.
It was time for Q&A & before I knew it I was first in line at my station.
Here's what was said:
Me: "I saw your film & wrote you a letter saying I would quit my job if I could come & work for you." (audience laughs)
AG: "Yeah, I need someone to open my letters" (more laughter)
Me: "Hey, I am willing to start anywhere. So my question is two-fold. First did you get my resume & if not can I give you the one I happen to have here in my hand?" (audience laughs & claps loudly)
AG: (shakes his head, laughing & says) "Come on" (motioning down to the stage (again loud clapping)
so I march my scared butt down there, hand him my resume & shake his hand (he put it in his suit pocket).
So now it's just about waiting for the phone call, right?
Hold a good thought for me!
Funny story, jmg.
Hope you get that phone call soon! :D
Al Gore will have done more to save this planet from the climate crisis by jetting around the world than he would have done by staying home (and going from place to place by horse and carriage). There are certain inconvenient truths we have to deal with, and one of those is that a man can't go from country to country these days without creating some pollution. It turns, out, btw, that jet pollution only contributes 1.5% of the total worldwide carbon emissions in a year. So Gore's contribution to the problem is infinitesimal.
I'll take the pollution caused by his globe-trotting any day over risking him not getting his message out to people around the world.
In addition, as was pointed out, Gore offsets the pollution he creates by investing in projects that combat global warming. His houses, just for the record, are about as close to carbon neutral as a house can be.
Should he be living in an unheated shack somewhere?
For what it is worth????
There have been a few consistent things I have witnessed in my 150 plus hours around Gore.
Way too many, I mean way too many good and otherwise logical and decent folks simply beg him for a job in one manner or another.
He would literaly have to be an employment agency just in the folks I have seen ask for a job in person to him!
Now I assume this comes from the media or the notion that you have to be bold, not back down, go for your dreams media created mentality of trying to stand out etc???
Ya know, cram the script in their face, like Ellen alluded to at the Oscars, etc.
For me now, it is simply painful to see others, usually but not always young, attempt to get the job that way. I know a few folks who turned on Gore completely because he did not hire them to be his chief of staff or close to it-------really! So shallow! (People he wrote about in his book, who now diss him because they did not get what they perceived they deserved).
After seeing his staff and such for awhile, what I garner is that Gore hires more young people than I ever would (Like I have a clue about playing in those leagues??).
Most of all what I see is that the people that Gore hire are the kind of folks that walk through Harvard blindfolded as a warm up to tearing up life, etc. His people are good; real good!
Mind you I am good, real good, BUT not that good. I like to think it is because I don't have enough time left to get the experience needed to be hired to do anything by Gore??? (please don't enlighten me)
What I would like to tell those who might listen and I have known some of our cyber community to lament and long for a job from Gore. What I wish to tell them, is that if you need to ask Gore to hire you, he is not going to do so??? Did I say that right, I mean if you are good enough for Gore, he will come and ask you to work for him! ( this is my IMO and not anything Gore has ever said or hinted at!).
That doesn't mean he is a snob or something, it means the bar is very high for his people and I have seen that up close!
In addition, can you imagine just from his fathers stuff, much less the people Gore has been an associate of----Well there has to be dozens, hundreds, of well meaning damn good people he adores who wish their daughters/sons to work for Gore in any capacity and the only, I mean the only fair thing he could ever do is just simply hire the best at their true potential proven and no one else!
Imagine he hired me for example and then I am just one level or ten levels under what is needed at that position 6 months later. How awful to have to tell someone you know deeply well they are not good enough????
It is not easy being green or Al Gore!
Please folks, earn your job by you own previous accomplishments and don't expect your rock star to give you your big break. We all adore him or at least admire him! We all wish to serve him and wait to be called and will do our damn best, but don't get your hopes up for a job and don't blame him because he doesn't inherently see how committed you would be to him either!
He does good by young people better than any big time person I can think of? He doesn't see lesbian/gay/black/white/green---he sees special.
Especially to our cyber community, too many of you and you know who you are, think Gore is your dream Boss meal ticket?
Get over that Thought and make your name on your own efforts and he will be the first to give the limelight up to you!
I love you people and that is so very strange, to love folks completely for their minds and not even really wish to know what they look like??? There is hope in that for the entire human race for me somehow?????
I was there at the Key Arena in Seattle that night and saw it all. Dave Ross, a major radio personality in Seattle was the host introducing Al Gore and relaying questions from the audience.
jmg's question of "can I work for you?" was the first question after the presentation. Everyone laughed, but also admired the direct approach. It was all done in a friendly and good-hearted spirit. :Y:
That would be my dream too. That would be the dream of a lot of folks here. But, we are not waiting for Al Gore to announce he is running. We are not waiting to see if Al Gore is accepting applications. We are starting our Gore Groups and getting people to sign the Draft Gore petition and otherwise taking action on our own. I see it as our patriotic duty to give it our best try. And I think it IS going to work. :good:
I said it before, but I don't think President Gore has gone this long without managing to ever speak with General Sherman to say no later this year.
It's a gonna happen
P.S., jmg, since you probably live in the Seattle area, please sign up for the Lynnwood Draft Gore Group. Come on over to my home on March 17 :D
