Title: Another fundraising e-mail from Al Gore

earthmother - October 20, 2006 02:07 PM (GMT)
I received yet another fundraising e-mail this morning from Al Gore. The last one I got came to me from the DSCC. This morning, when I opened my Inbox, this one was from "Vice President Al Gore." Well, I know it wasn't really from him, but it looked pretty cool. In any case, I think it's interesting that they're using Al again for raising funds. They went from Al to Bill Clinton to Ted Kennedy, and now they're back to Al again. And why aren't they using Hillary? I find that interesting as well.

BTW if you haven't already contributed something, please do it now. It's imperative that we take back Congress. Here's the link where you can donate through the DSCC. Tell them Al sent you! :good: :DSCC

Dear Karen,

How you spend the next two minutes will determine what type of government you get for the next two years.

Never before has our government worked for so few, for so long. But never again will we be presented with such an incredible opportunity to change it. You have already made all the difference in this fight for our country with the incredible support you recently gave to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC).

Because of you, we're on the cusp of throwing out a Republican Congress that will never accept responsibility, never admit mistakes, and never change its mind. There are simply no words to express what your support means to the DSCC and its candidates.

But with just 18 days until the election, it is all hands on deck for Democrats and you are the most important weapon we've got. Believe me, I would not be asking for your support again so soon if it was not absolutely essential to fully funding all of our Senate campaigns. Please give your crucial support to the DSCC once more.

Please click here to make a secure online donation of $100, $150 or more. Every contribution counts, and for the next 24 hours, it counts double. If you give now, your contribution will be matched dollar for dollar through the generosity of a group of Democratic Senators.

In the last six years, we've seen an energy bill written by oil companies, a prescription drug bill written by pharmaceutical lobbyists, and a global warming policy run by the biggest polluters. Only in the out-of-touch world of this Republican Congress could public service mean raising their own pay nine times without raising the minimum wage once.

Abroad, the threats facing our country are serious and growing: a resurgent Taliban in Afghanistan, a defiant North Korea, a near-nuclear Iran, and a war in Iraq that our intelligence community says is "breeding a deep resentment of U.S. involvement in the Muslim world and cultivating supporters for the global jihadist movement."

When I travel the country, what I hear again and again from thousands of Americans is that they're fed up with lies and excuses. They're sick of being patronized and bullied. They're tired of opening the newspaper every day and seeing nothing but bad news. And yet, they're hopeful. They're energized. They've recognized that in our Democracy their political will is a renewable resource - that our voices and votes, together, can take back our country.

And we will.

Across the country, there are Democratic candidates for the United States Senate who want to go to Washington to work for us. The Democratic Party is the only party you can count on to achieve broad-based economic growth. It's the only party you can count on to balance a budget. It's the only party you can count on to protect the environment and to understand the realities of an interdependent world.

The Republicans are out of ideas. All they have left is fear.

This year, that's not going to work. But to keep our momentum, we need to match their resources, and we can't do it without you.

We have 18 days left to take back our country.

New leadership in the Senate is within our reach. As I write this, Democrats lead in the six races we need to win back the Senate and trail by small margins in several others.

Now is the moment we need to redouble our efforts - to extend the leads we have, to close the gaps we can, and to defend our candidates from the desperate attacks we know will be mounted against them.

With three weeks until the election, we can't slow down and we can't let up. That's because we can't afford two more years of slogans in the absence of strategies.

This November, we need to set our ship of state on a new course. We need to break the Republican stranglehold on the Senate. We need to take back our government and put it back to work for the American people. We have the ideas, we have the candidates, we have great organizations like the DSCC.

The ingredient we need for victory is your support.

Sincerely,

Al Gore

P.S. I know a little something about close elections. The last thing you want is to wake up on Wednesday, November 8th, look at the results, and say, "I wish I had done more." So please do all you can today -- we need every vote, every volunteer and every donation we can get.

I also liked that they included this p.s. It's an important reminder to people of just how much every vote matters.

I know money is tight for many if not all of us but it is very important that we listen to earthmother on this. Money is needed to win back congress and for the 08 race. If you have donated and can afford a little more please give, I have and will again each time I can afford it.

;)

earthmother - October 20, 2006 05:25 PM (GMT)
I've given three times so far. They know a sucker when they see one!

dbciii - October 21, 2006 05:02 AM (GMT)
I've gotten them from several others as well - Obama, Dean, Pelosi, Boxer.

Although I've donated several times in response to the national appeals, I've kind of shifted focus to a couple of local campaigns:

Il 6th: Tammy Duckworth has a shot at this slime Roskam, (who lives about two miles from me) whose signs have the area just plastered (this is Henry Hyde's current seat)

and Il-14th: John Laesch is still a long shot but gaining against Hastert. I live about 100 yards from the border between 6th and 14th.

Anyway, both of these young veterans are running for office to make a difference, to fix things, not to join the fat cat parade like Roskam.

We need as many of these fresh faces as we can get, and knocking off Hastert would be such a HUGE blow - it would resound around the globe!

For the next couple of weeks, there is no other politics. 2008 is "on hold"

You're right about that. I keep checking The Polling Report to see if there are any more recent polls regarding the general election in '08, and all of the polls now are about Congress in November. Makes sense. We need to do what we can to win back Congress. I hope people are responding to all these fundraising letters.

dbciii - October 22, 2006 01:01 AM (GMT)
I saw a poll a week or so ago giving status in every congressional race. Most polls give dem ve rep preferences, some do specific districts. This one had them all. That's when Laesch first showed being within 10 of Hastert. I have searched repeatedly and can't find it again. I want to see the updates. Do you know the one I mean?

earthmother - October 22, 2006 04:46 AM (GMT)
http://www.pollingreport.com/2006.htm[/URL]Sorry, dbciii, I don't. The most recent poll I know of is a compilation of all polls taken recently giving general numbers for Dem. vs. Rep. in Congress. It's at: http://www.pollingreport.com/2006.htm

I also recieved an appeal for money to help Democrats in the '06 mid-terms from Vice-President Gore. I had read that an earlier appeal a few months back generated record-breaking condtributions.

Why is Al Gore asking for donations on the part of Senate Democrats through the DSCC, and hrod is not? A good question. My best answer is maybe Chairman Howard Dean is serious about winning back the Congress in 2006 :good: :D

So, when Al Gore puts his name on it, please do a little something, whatever you can :)

This is an Al Gore's message I received from moveon's mailing list, and just made my contribution.

Dear MoveOn members,

If you want to solve the Climate Crisis, if you want accountability for Iraq, if you want to regain our nation's moral authority in the world, I have one request for you—help us win on November 7th.

You can make a difference by supporting candidates who are in neck-and-neck races. Can you contribute $25?

https://pol.moveon.org/give/keyraces6.html?...PqsHXaz6zmw&t=2

After Katrina, after the death of hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians and 2,799 of our own men and women in Iraq, after six years of policy failures, and denial of the climate crisis, it is time to hold the leaders of our nation accountable.

The opportunity for accountability is only 14 days away. If we want to change course, we need to act right now.

I know firsthand how important your last-minute support can be—especially to candidates like these who have the courage to say what they believe. These are good people and they will serve our country with integrity. By helping elect them, you can help change everything.

Please contribute to these candidates. Just click here:

https://pol.moveon.org/give/keyraces6.html?...PqsHXaz6zmw&t=3

To those who say that the problems we face are too big for us, I say that we have accepted and successfully met such challenges in the past.

We declared our liberty, and then won it. We designed a country that respected and safeguarded the freedom of individuals. We freed the slaves. We gave women the right to vote. We took on Jim Crow and segregation. We have won two wars in the Pacific and the Atlantic simultaneously.

This is another pivotal time. We need leadership that can rise to the demands of history. That leadership is waiting to serve—but they need our help.

Help us take back our Congress and our country today. You can contribute right now at:

https://pol.moveon.org/give/keyraces6.html?...PqsHXaz6zmw&t=4

The Bible says, "Where there is no vision, the people perish." Together, we have built a progressive vision—a vision for our country and our world—and on November 7th, we must make that vision a reality.

Sincerely,

Al Gore

Good to see Gore working through MoveOn. And good to see MoveOn doing this. It reaches people who the DNC, DSCC, and DCCC don't reach. Hope Al brings in lots of money to MoveOn with this appeal.

And i just got another one from him this morning. He's on a roll this month. ;)

earthmother - October 27, 2006 07:06 PM (GMT)
Well, they're desperately trying to raise cash. They've got Obama working the DSCC now.
