Title: Lieberman as Veep nominee
Description: What did he bring to the table?

FellowDemocrat - June 26, 2006 08:59 PM (GMT)
Just curious, what do you all think Lieberman brought to the table with him being the Veep nominee in 2000? Anything?

I wonder why Gore chose him.

He was squeaky clean.

.......until IMO, stabbed AL GORE in the back. If AL decides to run again and of course I hope he does, just say no to Joe "backstabbing" Lieberman.

I'm sure Lieberman wouldn't be on the short list this time around.

He should have chose someone else... like Evan Bayh. This is someone with, among many things, true midwest appeal.

Think about it, if we won Ohio and New Hampshire, which we very well could have if Bayh was on the ticket considering they were already really darn close, we would have won, regardless of Florida's outcome.

That's just two states that i think we could have turned blue if Bayh was on the ticket... i believe there would have been more, too.

Hopefully, if Gore wins the nomination in 2008, he'll learn his lesson.

If we had only won NH, we would've won the election. We didn't even need Ohio.

Very true, greyfox.

If my memory is correct, adding Lieberman to the ticket shored up Conn. which was considered to be a toss up until then and put Florida into play which was considered a lock for Bush. However, if Gore had chosen Phil Graham that would have put Florida in play too and may have brought along another Southern state.

I think you mean Bob Graham... Yeah, he's one of my favorites; he has been one of the biggest anti-war critics since the beginning. He may be a good choice as VP for Gore in 08, because aside from his stances (and being from Florida), we would not lose any seats if Gore won. Since Graham is not an office holder at the moment, we wouldn't have to worry about losing a Dem seat.

I love Bob, Phil, whatever his name is.

He'll be 72 in '08, though. I wonder if people would consider him too old to be veep.

I also wonder if it would be seen as a ploy to deliver Florida. But so what if they do?

John McCain will be 72 in '08.

I didn't realize that.

Never mind.
