Title: Thisplanet says hello
Description: introduction
thisplanet - May 1, 2006 04:25 PM (GMT)
Hello,
Here is something about me and why I am joining this forum.
I have always been conscious of the need to handle the environment responsibly, my madness is a recent touch. After seeing the "Dimming Sun" I am shaking in my boots. It blows me away that there are still clueless people out there spouting the misinformation they've been fed (if concerned at all). Then again I always said that the intelligence quotient of this country was miserably low. And again why should I be surprised - alot of people voted for Bush and still are sucking up his nonsense.
I have gone over the deep end I guess. In a recent email from a friend he wrote:
"Your stuff is strong and hard. Not everybody sees it your way and it is like you have undergone a conversion."I replied:
Oh yeh - I noticed that too! What really freaked me out was the "Dimming Sun" from Nova. The new data from researchers confirms the fact that we have underestimated the amount the temperature has risen. I personally believe that if we continue to obuse this world that the rate of these changes will increase. Changes will accelerate, there will be less time to react and make changes. The scariest part being the willingness of those not getting the big picture to make the necessary sacrifices. Two things make the intelligence quotient low, how ignorant people are of course, but the great number of idiots really drags it down and great numbers are what we need to make an impact. There are those who won't believe it till they see it??? See what? Famine, death, catastrophe, drought on a world wide scale???
The new data and the idea that a lot of people still have not got the picture are definitely the big factors that I would say contribute to this conversion/my fears. As I lay in bed this morning I was trying to understand to what degree I had gone off the deep end. Then it dawned on me why that expression is used in that regard. When I was about 7 or 8 years old, I was sitting on the pier at Lake Waconda. I scooted off thinking I was at a depth that I could stand in. Instead, it was over my head(another expression) and the panic and anxiety are easy to remember. I kicked my feet like I was riding a bicycle that wasn't there while I climbed an invisible ladder with my arms - panic - surprise - off guard - yes that is what I feel inside.
It is truly a disappointment to get some of the reactions I have gotten from what I once considered intelligent friends. I am struggling to seek some balance. I know I am a bit overwelmed right now. There is definitely a need to find a circle that gives me hope that there are a bit more people with out there heads up there butts.
So that might tell you where my head is at, plus this:
I have mixed feelings about Al Gore running again because I don't want that to have a negative affect on his global warming efforts and at the same time he would be ideal in the White House for this cause. I also feel if his own sanity is in jeopardy in that whole perverted circus we call a democratic process, I don't want him to suffer and the world lose such a powerful Global Warming Champion.
Hope to hear from you all. Enjoy the cheap gas while it lasts, <_<

Welcome to the Al Gore Support Center Thisplanet, I am happy you did not drown. :o
I believe there is a time for all seasons and Al understands this better than anyone. This is why he is now focussing on saving the planet first and foremost for the short term. I believe he will run for President when the time is right, precisely because this issue is so important to him and no individual has the power needed to change our current planetary wide destructive policies and habits so much as the President.
I believe Al has been through the crucible of what the MSM has to offer and the end result is they are weaker and he is stronger, you can only lie to the American People for so long before they catch on. I believe at this time and date Al Gore is the most sane person on the planet. I also believe his running for President will bring much needed attention to the climate crisis humanity faces. Without a doubt the naysayers will try to politicize this issue, however too much reality is begininng to shatter their fantasy world and with each revelation of the lies and B.S. they have perpetrated on the people for all manner of subject not just the environment, Al's stature only grows. Again welcome to the Al Gore Support Center. :)

Thanks UncleJoe
It is good to hear some sane talk. It is good to know also that I have found the circle I was looking for.
Heck I didn't even know I had an UncleJoe

Yes, it's true, poor Aunt Sarah never told you about me, because I ran off to Fire Lake, but I'm back now.

We all have an Uncle Joe. :D
Welcome, thisplanet. You have an active group of like-minded people here who would love to discuss things with you.
As for your ambivalence about a Gore presidency . . . I know what you're saying, but what better way for Gore to make a serious impact on global warming than to be president? How many people can he reach by going around the world giving his slide-show presentation? How many people will see the movie "An Inconvenient Truth" and read the book? Not enough. As president, Gore could grab the bull by the horns and encourage legislation as well as work with the rest of the world (Kyoto, getting us off fossil fuels, etc.) to do whatever we need to do.
Furthermore, Gore has been proven to be right about every major issue that's come up since Bush took office, both at home and abroad.
We need Al Gore. Now more than ever before. I can't think of any other person who could step into the job, hit the ground running, and pull us out of this deep, dark pit we've been thrown into by George W. Bush.
Gore's time is now, and I can only hope he is hearing our call.

And thanks, Uncle Joe. Now I've got Fire Lake going through my head . . . <_<
Great song.

OK - UncleJoe and EarthMother,
You calmed me down a bit and thanks. You don't really have to sell me on Gore as much as you might think. I have scoped out the website and was impressed with his accomplishments, something I did not know much of in detail. The idea though is like wishing for something you know there is little chance of getting. I would be more than thrilled if Gore was president. I'd probably get drunk celebrating and that would be a rare but welcome hangover. But if he ran and lost, that would be so unbearable. I'd either get drunk and stay drunk or move to another country.
Bush creeps me out so much. The Michael Moore Fahrenheit 911 documentary made the hair on the back of my neck stand up when he told those wealthy diners that they were his base. Where do we fit in? I'm certainly not one of the "have mores" and if he has his ways I doubt I'll be one of the "haves" and I'm sure my idea of a "have" is quite different from his. I'm retired, going on 58, and happy to "have little", but don't care to be one of the "have nothings". In my opinion he hasn't a clue what those New Orleans poor people's lives are about or even really cares. I bet he didn't cry like I did when I saw them suffering at that convention center and the dome. I'd bet his first thought was probably what he needed to do to save his popularity rating. Speculation on my part maybe, but my money would be on that bet.
Before I went mad with the Global Warming issue I was desperately trying to understand what was wrong with this system. I had come across this quote,
"Fascism should rather be called corporatism, as it
is the merging of government and corporate power."
--Benito Mussolini Is that a siren I hear or just my head sounding an alarm?
I found similar stuff at the OLDamericancentury.org site and another site that listed the 14 points of Facsim. I was starting to wonder if I might be losing it, but that quote by Benito just rings so true. It seems like if you really wanted to have a similar fascist style government and were really clever about it, you would tweak it just enough and hide the "dictator" part of the definition. The documentary Bush's Brain was just another clue to me that something or someone was orchestrating some sinister stuff. Well you see what I mean? I am starting at it again.
I have considered and probably will join the ACLU. Any thoughts on that? I've never been much of a joiner but when you start getting paranoid about the stuff that Bush pulls, you start looking for anything that might protect your keister.
You know I have a ton of steam to blow off. I don't want to rant if this isn't the place to do that. If there is some etiquette or rules, could you you tap me on the shoulder so I don't become a nuisance? Or even better just point me to another forum if you have any idea where my long winded tirades might be more appropriate. Here is a big clue - this is the first forum I ever joined.
Please feel free to bounce things off me, ask me questions and I'd love to be part of discussions. However, I do write more than anyone else I correspond with. My hunt and peck is probably about as good as it gets, something I acquired writing documentation at LU Technologies. I'm not fast but sufficient for my needs.
Enough already,
Thisplanet

We do a lot of ranting ourselves here, thisplanet. Feel free.
And you will get an earthmotherly "tap on the shoulder" if you get out of line, but I wouldn't worry about that. We're very tolerant around here.
As far as forum etiquette is concerned, just try to be respectful of other people, even if you disagree with them. We try to afford others the same courtesy.
So tell us what's on your mind . . .
whybaby - May 2, 2006 04:54 AM (GMT)
So glad you're with us, Thisplanet. It hurts to see something, or someone, you love being violated. Like Our Hero, Al Gore, like the poor in this country, the Iraqi people, and the planet. But you are oh so not alone! The only way to get to the light is to share the darkness we are in, and create another kind of light together.
Of course, I'm a Pisces, so I'm regularly off the deep end! :P
Al Gore's film on the climate crisis ("An Inconvenient Truth") will be opening in just over 3 weeks. Go see it with a friend who respects your thoughts and cares about your feelings. I think we will all find friends in the audience. We need one another to stay afloat, to gather our strength, to fight to take our country back.
earthmother - May 2, 2006 02:59 PM (GMT)
Dinah--Interesting that you and I are both Pisces . . . ;)
thisplanet - May 2, 2006 03:51 PM (GMT)
Time for this newbie to leave the nest. I'm a big boy now. Thanks for the welcome and encouragement. I guess the etiquette question was dumb - of course I'd be respectful of others... even if I want to strangle them. And I will even hope and pray that Al Gore becomes our next president - maybe even be so optomistic to make my personal mantra "4 + 4 with Al Gore" (the next term and the one after).
I've looked around and there are plenty of topics to choose from and I may even start my own thread if I don't see the subject somewhere else.
And Whybaby you rang true for me on a few things. Yeh... the Iraqi people... I would like to imprison any one that declares war. The word "war" should be illegal. If you want to do something like that than you should have to stand up and say "I declare an excuse to bomb and kill women and children." Do you think that might help a little? Collateral deaths are going to happen I know, but sooner or later someone decides that we need to fire bomb some none strategic target or spread Agent Orange all over the place because... well I am not really sure why except that I am sure that there is always someone that walks away from it when it is all over and abbra-cadabra there pockets are full of money.
And you mentioned the darkness - I have always thought that we all are in the dark and the only way out is to help each other, even if it is just to say "I feel the same way". There is another part of the darkness I have come to call the "army of darkness". That army is the reason for the unethical behavior that has permeated this country and perverted what democracy and capitolism is supposed to be about. From Spin Doctors manipulating truths to the scum that prey on the old with scams to take their meager savings, it is one awesome army.
I live in the woods of KY and I'll have to travel 170miles to St. Louis to catch the premier on May 24th else wait till June and HOPE to find it in a theater within 50 miles. I would love to go see it with a friend - right now my nearest friends think Global Warming is my new hobby and that I have had some mid-life crisis type experience that has caused me to get over concerned. I did pledge to go see it on opening day - so I need to get some kind of plan together. I am kind of perplexed that with Al Gore's connection to Nashville that it is not premiering there on May 24th. Might you have some power to change that? Just say you'll try just to humor me.
Now wouldn't a Pisces be more in its element in the deep? If we are going to consider that kind of stuff, I'll be forced to admit that Scorpios going off the deep end is a nasty sight. shhhhhh... don't scare the fish.
see ya round the topics,
Thisplanet

It is odd that "An Inconvenient Truth" isn't opening in Nashville. Wonder why . . .

This information is important enough that I want to break it out into its own thread. Hope you don't mind, thisplanet. That way, more people will be likely to see it.

Hi thisplanet, glad to have you on board!
thisplanet - May 4, 2006 10:32 PM (GMT)
Thanks Greyfox. This site is awesome, but it is sucking up so much of my time. I'm going to have to impose some self discipline and set up a schedule so I can get some other things done. Maybe my trip north for the weekend will help.
So any relation to the pro-environment Fox of the 70s? Was that you :o

Hehe, no... I wasn't even born yet. :D

It becomes a habit, thisplanet. A very bad habit.
I'm at my computer for much of the day writing, and every time I see the little envelope pop up and get the little signal that there's new mail, I feel I have to check it out. 99% of the time, it's someone responding to a Gore post, and I get sucked in. I have wasted many an hour doing this instead of what I was supposed to have been doing. Well, I can't say wasted. It's for a good cause. And I've learned an awful lot. And met some wonderful people, people who I consider good friends now even though I've never met them (although someday I hope to when we have our giant party to celebrate Gore's election).
A trip away is a good thing--it'll give you a little break--but when you get back, your Inbox will be filled with posts you've missed while you've been away, and you'll feel obligated to read them, and you'll be sucked right back in again.
