Title: Clinton & Gore at DNC Fundraiser
Description: (but didn't share stage at same time)

Howard Dean Brings Together Gore And Clinton
Tonight, former vice president Al Gore will join ex-Pres. Bill Clinton at a gala fundraiser in New York (has any fundraising dinner in New York ever not been a gala?) for the Democratic National Committee.

The event honors Maureen White, who labored for five years as the DNC's finance chair -- under both Terry McAuliffe and current chair Howard Dean.

White is stepping down from her DNC perch. After a short break, she'll join the Senate re-election campaign of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Gore, whose relationship with his former boss chilled, then warmed, then sort of evened out, is a last-minute addition to the line-by-line.

DNC Regional Field Organizer Anathea Chino has the hardest job. Chino will deliver a presentation on the DNC's 50-state organizing project to the audience of deep-pocketed donors and New York's political media elite.

The dinner will net the DNC about $1.3 million. [MARC AMBINDER]

Well, will Clinton use this event to privately try & talk Al out not to run against Hillary in '08? I personally sure hope Al would say 'it's none of your business' should Clinton really try to pull a stunt like that.

Very interesting plus i hope the people who will attend this event including Gore will look foward to this 50 state strategy project by Chino because this is the best idea Dean came up with cause we're starting to see Democrats winning in unexpected places including conservative areas.

Am I right to be encouraged by the fact that Gore's being so involved in the political end of all this? He could easily be eschewing politics and fundraising and just go about his crusade to educate people about global warming and promoting his movie, book, etc. I think the fact that he's been asked (or maybe he asked them?) to be a part of events like this is a VERY positive sign.

I hope President Gore tells Bill to keep his wife out of the Presidential race, as he is going to run and be seated.

Hmmmm. Wonder if this was to avoid an awkward moment - i.e., if Gore runs, will Clinton stand with his wife or his ex VP?

There's a Gore-geous photo of Our Hero.

NEW YORK - Bill Clinton invoked Scripture and Al Gore warned of the looming calamity of climate change as the former president and vice president appeared onstage to honor an outgoing Democratic Party official.

Democrats sentimental for a return of the Clinton-Gore political era saw their wish briefly fulfilled Monday night at a dinner for Democratic National Committee official Maureen White.

The two did not appear onstage together, joining committee Chairman Howard Dean at different moments in the program. Gore was accompanied by his wife, Tipper Gore.

Speaking to the 500 donors who’d paid at least $1,000 to attend the dinner, Clinton urged the group to think of themselves as “values voters” whose concerns mirror those of most Americans.

“We don’t have to be afraid of our values,” Clinton said, outlining a message he said Democrats need to convey when asked by skeptical voters what they stand for. “We believe in ... shared opportunities, shared responsibilities and shared participation in the community.”

Clinton said Republicans “believe in concentrated wealth and power and using ideology to divide people.”

Religious language
Mentioning the coming Easter Sunday holiday, he reminded the crowd that Democrats stand for one of the hallmarks of the New Testament — helping the poor.

In recent weeks, Clinton and other party leaders have sought to frame Democratic concerns in religious language.

Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., Bill Clinton’s wife, and Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., the party’s 2004 presidential candidate, recently criticized a tough Republican-backed immigration bill as contrary to Christian beliefs.

Republican National Committee spokeswoman Tracey Schmitt, in an e-mail, said later of Bill Clinton’s remarks at the dinner: “Ironic choice of words given that the senator has increasingly used her bully pulpit to launch personal negative attacks rather than talk about ideas to better our country.”

Gore called on the crowd of donors to use their “moral imagination” to address the threat of global warming, estimating that only 10 years remain to make the global changes necessary to thwart a potential environmental catastrophe.

Gore, who narrowly lost the 2000 presidential election  to Republican George W. Bush, did not cast his argument in partisan terms.

“Democrats need to push a political consensus,” he said.

Monday’s event honoring White was expected to raise $1.3 million for the DNC, spokeswoman Karen Finney said. White, the DNC’s longtime national finance chair, is retiring.
