The official word is that talk of nuking Iran is just "wild speculation," but, hey, we've seen how they've lied their way into war before, and I would put nothing past them.

This is truly terrifying. The only good thing is that I heard this morning that there are many higher-ups in the Pentagon who said they would resign if Bush goes down this road. Congress won't go for it, either. It's not much comfort, but I really don't think there'd be support for this.

Bush Dismisses Reports Iran Attack Planned

By DEB RIECHMANN, Associated Press Writer

President Bush dismissed as "wild speculation" reports that the administration was planning for a military strike against Iran.

Bush did not rule out the use of force, but he said he would continue to use diplomatic pressure to prevent Iran from gaining a nuclear weapon or the know-how and technology to make one.

"I know here in Washington prevention means force," Bush said at the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University. "It doesn't mean force, necessarily. In this case, it means diplomacy."

Several weekend news reports said the administration was studying options for military strikes. The New Yorker magazine raised the possibility of using nuclear bombs against Iran's underground nuclear sites.

"I read the articles in the newspapers this weekend," Bush said. "It was just wild speculation."

Taking questions from the audience, Bush also said he declassified part of a prewar intelligence report on Iraq in 2003 to show Americans the basis for his statements about the threat posed by Saddam Hussein.

"I wanted people to see the truth," he told a questioner who said there was evidence of a concerted effort by the White House to punish war critic Joseph Wilson. Bush said he could not comment on the CIA leak case because it is under investigation.

Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., sent a letter to Bush on Monday asking him for details about how the document was declassified. "There are many questions that the president must answer so that the American people can understand that this declassification was done for national security purposes, not for immediate political gain."

In Tehran, officials said the media reports about a possible U.S. strike against Iran amounted to psychological warfare from the West.

Iran's hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told Iranians not to be intimidated by other nations' attempts to stifle the country's nuclear ambitions.

"Unfortunately, today some bullying powers are unable to give up their bullying nature," Ahmadinejad said. "The future will prove that our path was a right way."

The U.N. Security Council has demanded that Iran suspend all enrichment of uranium — a key process that can produce either fuel for a reactor or the material for a nuclear warhead. The security council gave Tehran until April 28 to comply before the International Atomic Energy Agency reports back to the council on its inspection progress.

Iran has rejected the demand, saying the small-scale enrichment it began in February was strictly for research and was within its rights under the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty.

Bush and other administration officials have said repeatedly that the military option is on the table, and White House officials acknowledge normal military planning is under way.

Defense experts say a military strike on Iran would be risky and complicated, and could aggravate U.S. problems in the Muslim world.

To pressure Iran, European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana on Monday recommended that the 25-nation bloc consider sanctions against Iran, including a visa ban on some officials, because of Iran's rejection of U.N. demands that it end uranium enrichment.

Bush has said Iran may pose the greatest challenge to the United States of any other country in the world. And while he has stressed that diplomacy is always preferable, he has defended his administration's strike-first policy against terrorists and other enemies.

"The threat from Iran is, of course, their stated objective to destroy our strong ally Israel," Bush said last month in Cleveland. "That's a threat, a serious threat. It's a threat to world peace; it's a threat, in essence, to a strong alliance. I made it clear, I'll make it clear again, that we will use military might to protect our ally."

This could perhaps be one of those rare times in this crazy, mixed-up world, when I might actually support and HOPE FOR a military coup. Provided, of course, the military had no goal other than the removal of a madman/madmen from office. But then you'd have the insane, craven Republican Congress to deal with. Perhaps some of them should be jailed also ... If these guys try to go nuclear ...

"I read the articles in the newspapers this weekend," Bush said. "It was just wild speculation."

I THOUGHT the Idiot King didn't READ ANYTHING!

Taking questions from the audience, Bush also said he declassified part of a prewar intelligence report on Iraq in 2003 to show Americans the basis for his statements about the threat posed by Saddam Hussein.

And if George Washington was to "declassify" the plans to West Point then would that make Benedict Arnold any less of a "traitor"? BU$H is just trying to protect ROVE and we KNOW IT!

"I wanted people to see the truth," he told a questioner who said there was evidence of a concerted effort by the White House to punish war critic Joseph Wilson. Bush said he could not comment on the CIA leak case because it is under investigation.

Joe Wilson claims p.24 of that report along with many other pages were redacted...Watch while BU$H and Co. 'cherry picks' talking points again to 'fix intelligence around policy'...

Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., sent a letter to Bush on Monday asking him for details about how the document was declassified. "There are many questions that the president must answer so that the American people can understand that this declassification was done for national security purposes, not for immediate political gain."

but it STILL does NOT answer the question of WHY Valerie Plame was brought into this...I didn't KNOW outing HER NAME was to help Dumbya EXPLAIN the 'faulty intelligence' he is choking on now that led us to war...looked like a V for Vendetta from the LEAKER IN CHEIF! (if you ask me)

The U.N. Security Council has demanded that Iran suspend all enrichment of uranium — a key process that can produce either fuel for a reactor or the material for a nuclear warhead. Bush and other administration officials have said repeatedly that the military option is on the table, and White House officials acknowledge normal military planning is under way.

sure it's just wild speculation Dubya! The LAST TIME YOU SAID THIS YOU MARCHED US INTO IRAQ!

Defense experts say a military strike on Iran would be risky and complicated, and could aggravate U.S. problems in the Muslim world.

THAT didn't STOP BU$H & THE ROVE CABAL from INVADING IRAQ IN MARCH 2003...so WHY should we TRUST THEM NOW?

To pressure Iran, European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana on Monday recommended that the 25-nation bloc consider sanctions against Iran, including a visa ban on some officials, because of Iran's rejection of U.N. demands that it end uranium enrichment.

Bush has said Iran may pose the greatest challenge to the United States of any other country in the world. And while he has stressed that diplomacy is always preferable, he has defended his administration's strike-first policy against terrorists and other enemies.

And Iran has PROMISED to shut down the Straits of Hormuz should such actions be taken...their President isn't "stupid"...he cuts the oil supply...gasoline goes up to $5 dollars plus a gallon...and AN ANGRY MOB HEADS FOR THE WHITE HOUSE!

I say if ISRAEL wants to attack Iran's reactor sites then be MY GUEST!, but I DO NOT WANT THE USA DOING IT! These Neocons have done enough DAMAGE! If BU$H even dares to THINK we will just sit back while he forces us to accept military action and invasion of Iran then HE HAS ANOTHER THING COMING!

Here's my take on it

ReElectAlGore2008 - April 16, 2006 03:04 PM (GMT)
Do you guys really think the public will rise up this time? I hope they do. It's about time.

They should have 12/12/2000 and they didn't and they haven't any day since...

If the poor people from south of the border just wanting to make a better life for themselves can take to the streets in the millions, why can't the people of this country?

It really boiled my blood and still does that nothing was done about horrible injustice of December 12, 2000, and look at the disaster the world is because of the worst day in American history.

I don't know about you guys, but most of the people I know DON'T CARE much about anything. Most of them don't even vote. They're just in their little shallow worlds and it's frustrating.

It was the same with the run-up to war in Iraq. Hopefully, this time we'll know better what this administration is capable of and won't allow it to happen.

Something else . . . I'd also like to see America get up off its collective complacent ass and demonstrate against amnesty for illegal aliens. Now they're making demands and threatening to boycott on May 1. Excuse me? What right do you have to do that when you're here illegally? I'm sorry. This gets my blood boiling. I was watching Lou Dobbs the other night, and the poll question was: do you want amnesty for illegal aliens? 94% responded no. That's incredible. And he said they were overwhelmed with responses, so this is a hot topic. Where are all the people who don't go along with amnesty for people who've entered our country illegally and are using us so their kids can get educated at our expense?

 ERRRR.......Karen  It makes me mad also. I didn't say it before but I think that their time is running out. Things have been VERY PEACEFULL up until now but I fear that this ILLEGAL MOVEMENT may be reaching a "critical mass"! LEGAL AMERICANS won't take much more........I fear! :o

Question: How in the heck are they getting PERMITS to stage these DISRUPTIVE and PEACE DISTURBING marches and rallys :?: :?: :?:

You know, one thing I hate is how these things take on a life of their own because of the media. Showing sites for possible nuclear strikes? Come on. The Pentagon has a contingency plan for every possible thing that could happen in the world (well, pretty much). That doesn't mean that these plans get used. It just means they're prepared. I do believe we need to be on our toes to be sure that we don't end up bombing Iran, but for now it's all just talk, and the news media are being irresponsible if they start whipping people into a froth over this. And of course our enemies monitor our media, so they get the impression that America is planning to attack them. Now, 40,000 suicide bombers is a bit of chest-puffing, if you ask me, but still. We all need to take a deep breath and step back before this gets out of hand and becomes a fait-accomplis.

The Paraclete - April 21, 2006 01:10 AM (GMT)
Guess what folks! They have put Rove back in control of the propaganda "poop" mill because the GOP is "whining" and "crying" on how BAD things are! So expect Right Wing Reactionary Radio to twist the truth every which way but loose...(after they all dismiss for a W Policy Spin Weekend at Rove's Secret Camp for Conservative Kooks & Mouthpieces)... :dripple:

But here we go...joblessness is at 4.7% mainly because they plucked so much money out of our pockets at the gasoline pump, that MOST of us had to take a secondary burger flipping job to pay for fuel....

But NO MATTER how much ROVE tries to deflect and place blame on Democrats in this 2006 cycle just REMIND folks it wasn't DEMOCRATS that allowed fuel costs to hit $3 dollars plus last year and looks like $3 dollars plus this summer AGAIN!

It wasn't DEMOCRATS that caused a MAJOR BOOM in the HOUSING MARKET to BUST over HIGH INTEREST RATES! :dripple:

And MOST of all, REMIND folks that Rove looooves to LEAK names while the PRETZEL protects him from HARM!

As for Neocons just remind THEM that I Scooter LIBBY was a LAWYER for Marc RICH! You remember HIM! The Conservative HYPOCRITES COMPLAINED BECAUSE BILL CLINTON PARDONED HIM!
:P

When it comes to recruiting Democrat votes, I have found the gas station works wonders...Just point at $2.79 a gallon (here in OK that is cheap I guess...compared to the rest of the nation)...and say to the conservative jerk that's there saying how great Iraq is going and how we should stop Iran..."the LAST time we actually listened to you IDIOTS...gasoline was BELOW $2 a GALLON!..I WILL BE DAMNED IF I AM GOING TO PRAISE YOUR PARTY OF FOOLS AND YOUR IDIOT KING PRESIDENT FOR TAKING GAS TO $3 DOLLARS A GALLON!

AND I WILL CERTAINLY NOT BE CHEERING WHEN IT IS 5$ PLUS A GALLON BECAUSE THINGS ARE GOING SO WELL IN IRAN A YEAR FROM NOW!

earthmother - April 21, 2006 01:41 AM (GMT)
Rove has been enemy #1 all along, but now that he's being taken off of policy and put in charge of politics, things are going to really start cooking. All Dems. running for office in November better watch their backs  , and in the upcoming presidential race, I think the Swiftboat ads are going to be tame compared to what we're going to be seeing.

We ain't seen nothin' yet.

The Paraclete - April 21, 2006 04:17 AM (GMT)
EM the BEST thing to do now in 2006 is CONCENTRATE ON ROVE...They kept hiding the Spillsbury Leaky Doughboy for a REASON! Then BU$H took the "bullet" for Plame...Now Rove will use his "Digital Brownshirts" once again to try to change the SPIN that has been HANGING the GOP...WE NEED TO...

1)Stress the HIGH PRICE OF FUEL!

2)Stress the IRAQI DISASTER!

3) AND PUT FORTH THE GOP AND REACTIONARY RIGHT WING RADIO AS THE DISHONEST CROOKS THEY ARE!

REMEMBER ABRAHAMOFF...DELAY...LIBBY...ROVE...CUNNINGHAM...RUMSFELD! AND REMEMBER THE GOP IS TRYING TO CUT BU$H COATTAILS...SO WE NEED TO STRING THOSE TAILS AROUND GOP NECKS AND HANG THEM IN 2006!
;)

And Remember....WE WON IN 2000! And had Chatty Kathy Harris not RIGGED to Dade & Polk County VOTE the BU$H WOULD HAVE LOST!! Well DADDY is DEAD...Kathy dear...so let's see how Chemical & Citrus changes the VOTE in POLK COUNTY THIS YEAR!!!

Here you go Karen....

Gislounge looks legit to me...they have a lot os stats...

EM...I lived in Polk County...I have MANY Democrat friends there....and Kathy Harris's DAD ran the county for YEARS(via Chemical & Citrus Bank)! Was there something "crooked" that went on there? YOU CAN COUNT ON IT!

Also seminole County was another county along with Dade (that was STOPPED by Delay staffers) where the vote was questionable...

Karen to prove how many Loyal Democrats live in Polk County just go here!

That is the OLD forum...the NEW forum was just started!

Believe me Karen, Al Gore WON in Polk County, Seminole County, and Dade! These tough Polk County Democrats are fighting Chatty Kathy's minions every day and have been doing it for years!

EM, I am working on Current TV pods but it has been hard to do with medical problems and moving to another home in the last 6 months...I have also been remiss in being here at other sites and at Current TV as well! But I am still trying! soon I will make a break through!

I never questioned that, Paraclete. Al Gore won not only in those counties, but he won the state. I was just wondering where the map came from so I could quote it when needed.

Good luck with your endeavors . . .

I don't know why I quit posting here, but it had to do with stupid silliness that hurt my pride... :(

And you know, we're all vulnerable to being hurt on these boards. I've often taken a breather from AG-08 because things were getting too rough for me over there. Things can get personal, even when we're trying to just discuss the issues.

Here, at least, I like to think that we try to treat each other with respect. Most of us, anyway.

We need to OVERLOAD The Spillsbury Leak Boy! Keep him BUSY!!!

I have no home connection as of now so I will be back on Thursday!

I know EM...I have had those piccadillos myself over time...I have also had fights with other Al Gore forum admins over simple things like fear of affiliation...I am NOT trying to affiliate ANY sites...ALL I am trying to DO is foster cooperation between sites! I would be guilty of "duplicity" if I were to go from site to site and NOT foster collaberation when my MAIN premise is "UNITY"...So everyone has to understand I do not play favorites earthmother...if a site SUPPORTS Al Gore then I will support it! On BU$H Blogs they "blatantly" tout each other's sites shamelessly...while on our side we bicker & dicker over past hurts and disagreements...this has to STOP...

But THAT is my opinion...But I AM Papabear...I STAND for Democratic (& AL GORE) UNITY! And Karen...I DO APPRECIATE how you and Chris and AGSC FOSTERS cooperation!

Me, too, Paraclete. I have actually discussed being a liaison between the two sites with Dylan, who seemed surprisingly receptive to the idea.

We all have a common goal. I know there are egos involved, and at times there are also differences of opinion regarding how to proceed. I know that the Malones were totally opposed to the draft Gore movement once Al made his intentions known. Chris allowed us a place here to pursue our (I now believe) misguided movement without interference, for which I am grateful.

If Gore decides to run, I would hope that the various Gore sites would find a way to work together for maximum benefit.
