Anti-tax proponent offers to help Nader in Oregon; Camejo compares Democrats to dictators

(07-13) 18:58 PDT SALEM, Ore. (AP) --

The leader of a Republican-leaning anti-tax group says his organization is ready to collect petition signatures to help Ralph Nader win a spot on Oregon's presidential ballot.

Democrats are challenging Nader's efforts to appear on ballots in some states. In San Francisco on Tuesday, his running mate, Peter Camejo, compared the Democratic Party to "a dictator" who uses fear and false rhetoric to give voters the illusion they have an open electoral system.

Drawing votes away from Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry to help President Bush win Oregon is a goal of Citizens for a Sound Economy, said its leader, Russ Walker. The group was instrumental in putting together the signature drive and campaign that led to the drubbing of the state's $800 million tax hike in a Feb. 3 special election.

The offer could be a boost to Nader, who has struggled to meet an Aug. 24 deadline to qualify for the Oregon ballot.

What an idiot. This is the only thing third parties and divisive people are good for.

Chris, you know I'm no fan of Nader's, but I don't agree with your statement regarding third parties. Third parties do have their place, and I think we'd be better off, frankly, if we could break out of this strictly two-party system. The trouble this year, as in 2000, is that the third party will be syphoning off votes from Kerry, possibly allowing Bush to win. Normally it is not as imperative as it is now to get rid of the other guy. Bush has been called by many the worst and most dangerous president in our history. I didn't like Nixon, Ford, Reagan, or Bush the father, but Baby Bush is so evil, so twisted, so dangerous, that the possibility of him winning because of a third-party candidate is unacceptable.

My conclusion: Nader should be locked in a Ford Pinto and sent for a long ride for oh, say, about twenty years (I'd say something else, but it's against the rules of this forum to wish bodily harm upon a person). ;)
