By the time Gore arrived in late October, Bush already had visited West Virginia twice. By then he was leading by 10 points, an advantage he never relinquished.
Kerry is determined not to ignore West Virginia the same way Gore did, said Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va.
"It's very hard for me to explain Al Gore," Rockefeller said. "I voted for him, but I didn't see him in West Virginia. I resented that as a West Virginian. He paid a price for it. I hope he has thought about that. I know John Kerry has."
Rockefeller said he has urged Kerry to make more visits to the state.
