Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge warned that Al Qaeda cells operating in the United States plan to attack voters who support Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry.

“We’ve picked up credible information from Internet chat rooms and someone overhead on a cell phone at an airport restroom that Al Qaeda terrorists are targeting Kerry supporters. For the security of this nation we strongly advise the public to avoid Kerry rallies, the Democratic convention and not to display a Kerry Edwards bumper sticker on your vehicle,” Ridge said at a Washington news conference.

Ridge further explained that intelligence confirmed that Osama Bin Laden was personally directing the effort and reportedly told his associates that “the tall dour one cannot be president or America will perish.”

Secretary Ridge said that evidence was first brought to the attention of President Bush last week in a daily presidential briefing memo entitled “Bin Laden Determined To Attack Kerry Supporters Inside The United States Because They Are Weak On Fighting Terrorism And Therefore Not A Worthy Enemy.”
