Letter: President Gore? No thanks

A recent letter encouraged people to dream about what life would be like if Al Gore had been elected president. Since I live in reality instead of liberal fairyland, I have a much different vision than the author.

As far as the recession (liberals would like you to forget that the recession began during Clinton's presidency), Al Gore would not have had the foresight to cut taxes to provide an economic stimulus. As a result, the recession would have been much more painful.

Instead of meeting the terrorist threat head on, Gore would've been this generation's Neville Chamberlain - standing idly by while the terrorists killed millions, instead of the thousands we are talking about now.

Like most liberals, Gore has no understanding of a market economy. Thus, when rising gas prices hit, Gore would have used liberals' favorite economic tool: the price cap.

This would cause massive gas shortages, which would then cause shortages of consumer goods, eventually spiraling into a stagflation situation much like the one brought on by Jimmy Carter, another liberal icon.

We should all be thankful that Al Gore was not elected.

Talk about someone not living in reality.

As any economist will tell you the recession began in March 2001 not during Clinton's term.

The tax cuts did nothing to stop the recession. What they did cause was state and municipal taxes & fees to be raised. They impact the middle and lower classes the most which further slowed consumer spending and thus the recovery.

Gore was head of the anti-terrorism task force during the Clinton administration. It met twice a month under him. It never met before 9/11 under Bush.

And Bush hasn't met the terrorist threat head-on. Instead of going after bin Laden, he invaded Iraq which had nothing to do with 9/11.

I really wish mental hospitals wouldn't let their patients have free access to the internet.

You ought to send your response to this a-hole, James, perhaps leaving off that last sentence.

Excuse me, PRESIDENT AL GORE was elected. Bush was selected. As far as the rest of the article, it's all lies as usual. Standing by and doing nothing while the terrorists killed millions, not thousands, where do they come up with this stuff???Thanks to Bush the terrorists did KILL those thousands.

A start would be securing our ports.

kbeth03 - August 5, 2005 04:12 PM (GMT)
and how would u go about that?

greyfox - August 5, 2005 04:20 PM (GMT)
It's common sense really... Get US security boats to patrol all ports and make all shipments that come in susceptible to inspection.

IMPEACH BUSH, and maybe the rest of the world would stop hating us. His arrogance is a big problem. It wouldn't entirely end terrorism but it would be a start in the right direction.
